0City Wants to Raise Age for Buying Cigarettes
New York City plans to raise the legal age to purchase cigarettes and other tobacco products from 18 to 21, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Mayor Michael Bloomberg‘s administration are slated to announce Monday.
Quinn, the frontrunner in the race to succeed Bloomberg, and Thomas Farley, the city’s health commissioner, are scheduled to unveil the legislation at a City Hall news conference Monday morning. Quinn and Farley will be joined by other council members and health advocates for the joint announcement.
