Dr. Jean Howard-Hill: Don’t Defend the Tea Partiers

image

RNC Chair Michael Steele yesterday issued a statement repudiating the NAACP’s citation of racism within the Tea Party movement. This was not a wise move on Steele’s part. If indeed the Tea Party Movement is truly nonpartisan and is not a Republican movement as it has often been contended, then the question is: why is the RNC or any other Republican organization, weighing in on this matter in defense of the movement? This was not a Republican matter which required an RNC response or involvement. It is a Tea Party matter which needs to be resolved between the Tea party and the NAACP.

The GOP is not in a position to take on a movement which has no leadership which — when issues such as this arise — can be held accountable. Nor can it control what happens at events or who appears and participates. Why then issue a blank check?

Raynard Jackson: The N.A.A.C.P. Has Racism Down To A Tea (Party)

There is no question that the NAACP has a storied past and they should be recognized for such. My readers know I have been very critical of the NAACP over the years. I would love to be able to write a glowing column about them, but dammit, they have to give me something to work with. Unfortunately, they have not given me anything to work with for today’s column.

During the planning phase of putting together a national convention, the leadership of the organization must always ask, “What is the sound bite they want the media to focus on?” Based on the media coverage from the NAACP’s convention, it is quite obvious that they never asked this question during their planning phase.

Of all the issues and problems facing the Black community, how can they waste time passing a resolution labeling the Tea Party movement as racist? And the NAACP wonders why they are considered irrelevant? In the immortal words of football great, Chad Johnson (Cincinnati Bengals), “CHILD, PLEASE!”

Is The Tea Party Racist?

If black Americans are suffering due to our current economic woes, Obama’s own policies are hardly helping them. The NAACP can’t bitch about “the Man” anymore because the Man is Obama.

While I think it’s our God given, American right to protest against the government-I’m not sure The Tea Party Crowd is for me.

I’m beginning to wonder if once you get near or around the age of 40 if you start to see life as a lot more complex than you thought it was when you were a teen or in your early 20s.

RAYNARD JACKSON OP-ED: Not My Cup Of Tea Party

Last week Keith Olberman (host of MSNBC’s TV show Countdown) caused a controversy when he called the Tea Party movement racist because they are a mostly white movement and many of their members use a lot of language filled with hate. He went on to challenge people to review video footage and photos from the Tea Party’s events to prove his point.

Those in the Tea Party movement and others on the conservative side of the political spectrum went apoplectic because of Olberman’s charges. Part of the reason for the reaction was that Olberman is an admitted liberal. He doesn’t try to hide his liberal bias on his TV show.

I want to bring some sanity to this debate. I don’t agree with a lot of the things Olberman has to say or some of his antics, but because he is considered an ultra liberal should not take away from the truth of what he said in this matter. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Like politicians, grassroots movements, too, come and go. Whether or not the Tea Party remains true to its original message or becomes something totally unrecognizable remains to be seen

More Black Republicans Running For Congress in 2010

Angela McGlowan today held a news conference in Oxford, Miss. to formally announce that she’s seeking the Republican nomination for Congress. The GOP is hoping to unseat Rep. Travis Childers (D-Miss.), who has held Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District seat since mid-2008.

If President Obama is serious about becoming the centrist he attempted to run as during 2008 and pull in his party’s extremism, he has a good chance of being able to gain some considerable legislative wins during 2010 and, perhaps, lessen the losses for his party in November.

Time for TEA…Party that is. By: Leette Eaton- White

I believe innocent life should be defended at all costs and the guilty should be punished. I believe this country has the right to defend itself preemptively, and I believe for the most part we make an effort to do so as honorably as possible without compromising our safety, and while that may not always meet the standards of international laws it meets the standard of the Constitution and that’s golden by me. I believe the money we earn is ours, and only what is absolutely needed should go into taxes for social programs that we know work or are incentive based. I believe charity should be a product of free will, and its best when it is a product of free will going where the individual intends it, doing what they designate, and going to those they believe deserve it. This is the core of conservatism. It is good. And I choose to live it.

Colin Powell – It’s not about Race, it’s about Tone

” The issue here is not race, it is civility!” This is not to say that we are suddenly racially pure, but constantly talking and reducing everything to black versus white is not helpful to the cause of restoring civility to our public dialogue.
