Raynard Jackson: State of the YOUnion

image

Two nights ago, President Obama delivered his annual State of the Union address and, as usual, he declared the state of our union is good. No president has ever said anything differently. Every president is only going to put the best face on the state of affairs in our country.

Raynard Jackson: Jim Clyburn-ed

Why didn’t Pelosi force Hoyer to drop out of the race? She could have created a “new” leadership position for him. This is the same party that, in September, tried to force current Congressman from Florida, Kendrick Meek, to drop out of his race to become the first Black elected U.S. senator from Florida. The White House asked Bill Clinton to pressure Meek to withdraw from the race and support the governor of Florida, Charlie Crist. Mind you that Crist is a white Republican turned Independent. Meek resisted the pressure and said no.

So, the Democrats care so much for the Black community that they wanted Meek to drop out of the race and endorse a de facto Republican. Again, where were the voices of the most loyal voting block within the Democratic Party?

What makes me most angry is the total silence of those in the Black community. Clyburn has spent 4 years as Majority Whip. During this time, Clyburn has done favors for many Democratic groups that have come to him for help. Where were the voices of outrage from these groups? Why didn’t they promise holy hell if the Democrats didn’t keep Clyburn in his leadership position?

Lenny McAllister – Can President Obama Conjure His Magic Twice?

From The Daily Show to the doughnut shops of America, it looks an awful lot like 2008 all over again — and not just because 1,000 candidates are actively engaged in heated debates across the nation in the quest to control Congress in January.

Republicans tell voters, vote for me and I will repeal Obamacare. Well, that may sound nice, but next time you hear that from a candidate, I want you to ask a simple question. Ask him to tell you specifically how he will accomplish this. What Republicans won’t tell you is, even if legislation to repeal Obamacare passes both houses of congress, president Obama surely would veto the measure. So, when the Republicans don’t deliver on this promise there will be a voter backlash that will manifest itself during the 2012 elections. Republicans are setting themselves up for failure on this and a whole range of issues they won’t be able to deliver on.

Democrats, Obama specifically, tell voters Republicans drove the car in the ditch and now want the keys to car back. This is a statement of fact. But, let’s look a little deeper. When a person gets a divorce and then remarries, the last thing the new spouse wants to hear is what the previous spouse did to mess up the marriage. The new spouse is only concerned about making this marriage work. Obama needs to stop injecting Bush’s name when talking about the state of the economy. Obama wanted the job so he should fix the problem and stop blaming Bush. Democrats control the levers of power; therefore, they will get the credit or the blame come November.

Are Hispanic Voters Giving Up on the GOP?

Chris Ladd: The New Face of Entitlement

The tragedy of our time is the new face of entitlement. Forget about welfare mothers. If you want to see the real affect of entitlement culture on America you need to experience the soft hands and hard heads of kids raised to privilege who never looked back – and never grew up.

New York Times columnist David Brooks writes a piece on how Germany and America reacted to the economic crisis differently. In the short run, it looks like the German’s got it more right.

Dramatic increase in Jewish identity with Republicans since Obama

image

The Pew Research Center has just released a survey on religious preference and partisan identification. The one question which as garnered the greatest amount of media attention was the vast increase in Americans who identify Obama as a Muslim, now at 18%, up from 11% last year.

But another finding may have even more serious political consequences for Obama and the Democrats. The number of Jewish Americans identifying themselves as Republicans has jumped dramatically since Obama took office, from 20% in 2008, to an all-time high of 33% in 2010.

While the gain in Jewish Republican identity was most striking, the GOP gained in partisan identification with every single religious group, including 6% among Catholics, and even a gain of 4% with Atheists and Agnostics.

Bush’s Legacy Debt Nightmare will be doubled by Obama within 5 years.

We were staggering under the national debt before President Obama. There should be no doubt however that the most prolific accumulators of national debt have had an ‘R’ after their name … until now.

Dr. ADA FISHER OP-ED: Reforming Insurance across all industries is now necessary!

image

Love him or not, I have to give it to Mr. Obama who has artfully shifted the Health Care debate to insurability from access and affordability which his legislation on health care is also not about. Risk assessment and coverage are a major concern in providing insurance coverage to everyone or in mitigating against financial losses in most situations. With health care eliminating increased costs based on risk, controlling access and costs are much trickier than is appreciated by John Q public or legislators.

If people continue to engage in slovenly behavior such as smoking, failing to exercise, excessive eating and other engagements which are within their control, why should policyholders (taxpayers) pay extra for their risks?

What does the wino do when he has consumed all his wine? He begs others for theirs. Rather than a world leader– we will be a nation at the behest of others.

Could Obama’s Education Plan kill HBCUs?

image

Shutting our ears to some justifiable criticism of Obama’s policies could kill past gains for blacks and the poor, particularly in the area of education. Rumor had it that the Obama Administration budget was to cut $85 million from the HBCU’s, about $67 million from Native American institutions and increased the amount to Hispanic universities from $95 to $98 million. It is clear policy for such may be driven by population growth favoring those likely to vote Democrats in; however there is more to this than meets the eye.

All of our colleges and universities, particularly the small ones with high tuition depend of federal assistance to make education affordable. Given that grants are not performance justified as they should be, loans have been loosened as bad as those which prompted the mortgage crisis rather than make banks the lender of choice.

Lenny McAllister OP-ED: Let’s Get Ready to Rumble…or Reconcile

image

If President Obama is serious about becoming the centrist he attempted to run as during 2008 and pull in his party’s extremism, he has a good chance of being able to gain some considerable legislative wins during 2010 and, perhaps, lessen the losses for his party in November.

SHERMICHAEL SINGLETON OP-ED:Obama’s State of the Union

image

In the aftermath of listening to Obama’s State of the Union address, I must say I am utterly disappointed. Obama still lives in fantasy land as millions of every day working class Americans struggle just to make ends meet. In my previous article I wrote about Obama having what I deem“Illogical Optimism.”

President Obama boasted about saving 2 million jobs and continued by saying “we’re on track to add 1 million more new jobs.” According to Recovery.gov 640,329 jobs were created or saved from the recovery package, however Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers estimated the number of created or saved jobs at the end of 2009, was between 1.5 million and2 million, two very distinct numbers. The fact that White House advisers gave varying estimates on Sunday talks shows this past weekend, does not help Obama’s credibility.

“The recovery act is working,” said President Obama, moments later he requested a new “job bill,” from congress. The recovery act is not working, in fact in2009 we lost more jobs than what was supposedly saved or created according to the Obama administration. Recent government figures show 4.2 million jobs were lost in 2009, hence the reason behind the 10 percent unemployment rate, which is where it remains. The president is making it harder and harder to find him credible.
