What a reversal of fortune this past week was for Romney. Rick Santorum was declared the winner of Iowa after a recount revealed he won more votes than Romney. Romney won New Hampshire. Then Newt took South Carolina.

Is Mitt Romney a racist for being moved with compassion after interacting with an American citizen who happened to be black?

Romney has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of and there is no need for him to justify his desire to make a profit in his deal-making.

Last month Christopher Hitchens unloaded on Mitt Romney’s “bizarre” religious beliefs. You expect this sort of thing from the far right and it’s arrived on cue, but Romney probably didn’t anticipate having his underwear selection critiqued by atheists and left wing commentators.

Does Mormonism include some strange beliefs? You bet. They think Jesus came to America after he wrapped up the New Testament story. He preached here to a vast, highly developed culture of whose existence we have no evidence. And it goes on and on. Magic stones, a new gospel written on gold plates that no one has ever seen. There’s some odd stuff in there, but does it matter?

Picking on a candidate’s religious beliefs is like making fun of his mother. Sure, maybe she’s batty and erratic, but he loves her. Perhaps you can make an attenuated case that her weirdness is going to affect his performance, but for the most part bringing her into the race is just mean.

The first and most important reason for choosing Romney is that he, and only he, of the remaining Big Three candidates has any chance at all of beating Barack Obama.

I will not betray my conservative principles to win an election….or lose one for that matter. Romney is easily a candidate that Obama and the Democrat party can neutralize.

MITT ROMNEY: Governor of Massachusetts for 4 years. During his tenure. He turned a 3 BILLION $ state budget deficit into almost a 1 billion SURPLUS. HE CUT taxes 19 times. HE ADDED A NET GAIN of over 50,000 jobs to MA. HE lowered state unemployment 1%.

ALL that is fiscal success. Competent, AAA fiscal policy, the kind we need now. That isn’t it tho. By being elected as Governor, Romney breathed life back into the Massachusetts, & New England GOP. He showed he knows how to REALLY compromise with the MA Democrat controlled state legislature he had, to get stuff done.

THEN there’s his logical, rational, rather undeniable electability argument. ONLY ROMNEY has been beating Obama in national, & state battleground polling since December of LAST YEAR. ROMNEY & his campaign have a center-right, pro-business, Independent minded appeal, that really appeals to moderates, Independents, etc. THEY DECIDE ELECTIONS. NO OTHER GOP CANDIDATE can match Romney’s BROAD APPEAL, his superb private sector experience, etc.

And now that it’s official, Mitt Romney can also join the ranks of other 2012 presidential contenders in releasing reworked videos of previous speeches. The former Massachusetts governor recently unveiled his second campaign video, which builds on the Republican candidate’s announcement theme of “I Believe in America.”

If the current crop of declared GOP presidential contenders is the party’s field of dreams for 2012, we’re in real trouble. Reviewing the line up thus far, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain, Tim Pawlenty, the group has the charisma factor of a ball of wax. Let’s face it charisma is more than 50% of presidential candidates appeal and for the most part this group is just plain dullsville when stacked up against Obama.

So far, Republicans’ quest for the White House in 2012 is looking more like a bad reality show at best, giving team Obama ample room for confidence the president will win a second term. Comb over, business titan Donald Trump’s flirtation with running for president was truly embarrassing. This week, just when we thought he couldn’t top his ridiculous press conference, taking credit for forcing Obama to reveal his birth certificate, Trump declared he wouldn\’t run for president but “I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and, ultimately , the general election.” Hardly, Americans won’t elect a birther as president.

The problem facing Romney is the same one that hounded him in 2008, the question of his authenticity.

Some have said that RomneyCare will be the blow that sinks Mitt Romney’s 2012 ship.I have a different prediction.
