A Reply to Kanye West: “George Bush Still Don’t Like Black People”

If Mr West was serious – he and Brad Pitt would be focusing upon “Hurricane Loretta” – the “next” hurricane that will hit New Orleans some day in the future. While many people are focusing upon rebuilding the infrastructure and getting “green” building materials into the houses – there is precious little discussed about preparing the PEOPLE for the next flooding event. If history is any measure – Mother Nature is going to ultimately succeed in flooding the area, destroying all man-made barriers that attempt to restrain the most powerful river in North America. Ironically – it is the silt that flows in the floodwaters that deposited the rich soil that the land sits upon.

The sinking foundation of parts of New Orleans is a “peat moss” type soil which is like a sponge. As the water recedes from the “sponge” the land sinks. The pattern of a catastrophic flood every 30 years since this time has not caused certain people to question the viability of these high risk areas of the city.

Asserts the moderate columnist for the New York Daily News: “It is sometimes startling that certain people neither understand nor get the functional meaning of responsibility. In an era so given to mirror-licking narcissism, we do not understand the idea of general good; individual freedom is mistaken for merely breaking the rules by rebelling against some version of authority or saying simple-minded and stupid things just because a mike is pushed in front of one’s mouth.
