Dennis Sanders: Alternative Right Magazine = Racism?

hate

By Dennis Sanders:

If you haven’t noticed, there is a new magazine out there called “Alternative Right.” The name makes it sound like its made up of conservatives who don’t fit the mainstream and are interested in moving the conservative movement forward.

Nope.

As Tim Mak, Alex Knepper and E.D. Kain have noted, this magazine is basically a gathering place for racists using intellectualism to make themselves look respectable.

As I heard all this criticism from other bloggers, I had to see for myself what all the hubbub was about. Is Alternative Right really that bad?

Short answer: yes. It is bad. Very bad. Take what they have to say about the coming demographic shift in America, as we become a “majority-minority” nation:

Look, group differences are a scientific fact. For a website that denounces those who don’t believe in evolution, it’s logically inconsistent but depressingly predictable that those at Frum Forum would deny the natural differences between whites and blacks or men and women…

Anybody who wants to take the time to learn about the “pseudo-intellectual” studies that have been done on group differences and how we know they have a biological basis can read J. Phillipe Rushton, Richard Lynn, Michael Levin, Arthur Jensen, Charles Murray and Richard Hernstein on race and Steve Rhoads, Steven Pinker, Geoffrey Miller and Judith Rich Harris on gender. Or they can open up their eyes and look at the disparities in crime, socio-economic status and standardized test scores found always and everywhere.

We would have the luxury of ignoring all this if it wasn’t for our current demographic shift, massive anti-white discrimination in the form of affirmative action or Stalinism at our universities in the name of fighting “hate.”

White Americans have gone from 90 percent of the US population to 70 percent in the last forty-five years. They’re scheduled to become a minority by 2042. We can anticipate that there won’t be a single part of our society or culture unchanged by these population trends. It is those advocating we move ahead with this unprecedented demographic shift who should have the burden of proof on them to show that we’ll be better off.  Anyone who tries to will find calling people names to be much easier.

It’s hard not to look at all this and see a bit of white nationalism hiding behind all the nice sounding words. There is sense that people who are not white are inferior and will mess up America come 2042. Will American culture be changed by this demographic shift? Yes, of course. But the way it is worded in this blog post, you’d think we were talking of some coming apocalypse that will destroy our nation.

It’s gets better. Here is what they have to say about the head of Detroit schools and about all African Americans.

Notice that even the black woman who is supposedly in Mensa (I wonder if they race norm, or she isn’t just lying) thinks that not being able to write makes the school board chief a great representative of his community. Now I don’t blame this man for being unable to tell the difference between making it in the private sector and making it as a government bureaucrat in an affirmative action system. If he had the brainpower for that, he would’ve graduated from college within his first ten years or so. But all whites with hopes of ever seriously engaging the black community in America need to know the intellectual and personal qualities that they’re likely to come across among the African-American leadership.(emphasis mine)

Huh? This is the story of one African American and its taken as some kind of indicator that African Americans are dumb illiterates. Affirmative Action puts stupid blacks into the workforce.

Good heavens.

I doesn’t go without saying that as an African American, I am offended by all of this. But what really bugs me is that sites like Alternative Right will just feed into the belief that all conservatives are racists and that black conservatives and Republicans are “Uncle Toms,” ashamed of the African American heritage. It makes people think that conservatism is a racist ideology, something that it is not.

I have long advocated a Big Tent Republican Party. In the past, that has meant accepting moderates within the party. But it also means accepting people from every race and creed to represent what America is: e pluribus unum- out of many, one.

For those of us who see ourselves as Republicans and conservatives, we have to be willing to speak out against people like those associated with Alternative Right. This is my America too.

  1. Featured on Alternative Right is an article that praises the fascist Julius Evola, an icon of postwar Nazis. Contributing editor Richard Hoste uses a photograph of Madison Grant, a major American eugenicist, as his avatar.

Scientific racists recently rebranded their pseudoscience as ‘HBD’ (for ‘human biodiversity,’ which used to be a perfectly good term for the real science of human population biology before it was hijacked). A number of HBD advocates promote white nationalism, while white nationalists (WNs) are picking up the rhetoric of HBD. This HBD/WN convergence overlaps with fascism. ‘Radical traditionalism,’ like HBD, is just a politically correct euphemism. The term was originally associated with postwar esoteric fascists, especially Evola. So if you hear anyone say that they are a ‘radical traditionalist’ and into HBD, you now know what their actual agenda is.

What Alternative Right represents is an attempt by white nationalists, neofascists, and neo-eugenicists to mainstream themselves within the larger conservative movement.

For more information, see One STDV, Richard Hoste’s website HBD Books, and VDARE.

  2. If Republicans continue to support unlimited third-world immigration along with anti-white policies like affirmative action, quotas, “hate” crime laws, etc… why would any sane white person bother to vote for them, much less contribute money or work on a campaign? Why should Republicans keep pandering to black and hispanic voters who have proven for decades that they are hostile to not only to conservative values but to the Republican Party itself?

  3. If im not mistaken Jack the “Republican Party” was initaly founded to stop slavery? The history of blacks and the GOP is rather long. The GOP is an American political party and is not owned by any particualr race, it should pander to its ideals not to racist groups black or white.

  4. “it should pander to its ideals not to racist groups black or white.”

That is exactly right! It seems that this Alternative Right magazine could almost be a beard for leftists trying to smear conservatism.

  5. “The history of blacks and the GOP is rather long.”

That’s exactly what it is – history. Blacks have been voting 90%+ Democrat for decades now.

“The GOP is an American political party and is not owned by any particualr race, it should pander to its ideals not to racist groups black or white.”

I agree, but the GOP isn’t going to win any minority votes with its “ideals” while the Democrats are offering them racial spoils politics. “Affirmative Action” trumps “Color-Blind Society”. If Republicans took a hard stance against mass immigration and racial spoils, they’d gain a lot more in white votes than they’d lose in minority votes. Instead, they seem dead set on trying to out-pander the Democrats.

  6. Not every black person votes Democrat because of welfare and affirmative action. History is important here because what happened in the past effects the present. One can argue that the rise of the Conservative wing in the GOP in the 30′s and 40′s slowly pushed out black voters out of the Party. The States Rights argument that was used by the KKK to torture blacks left a deep distaste for such conservative rhetoric. In fact many Conservatives refused to notice the brutality in America in the 40 against blacks by State Governments.

The Conservatives preferred to look at the Communist threat blind to the realities at home. In trying to find out who we should be as Republicans we must first look back in history to see what the party stood for. Many in the party, hard-line conservatives for the most part, are calling for a return to the roots of the Republican Party. Fair enough. I think that is precisely what we should do. And to do this, the facts that can be bothersome to some must be brought to the forefront of this internal debate. The roots of the party, of course, must be from the very beginning of its conception.

The Republican Party was formed in the late 1850’s in response to the democrats who supported the expansion of slavery into the new territories, which the new party was vehemently opposed to. The party was from the beginning, a progressive party and by no means a conservative one. It was a party that sought to modernize the country, not to keep the status quo especially if the status quo was not working for Americans. They sought to modernize the country by supporting higher education, free homesteads to farmers (a rather non-conservative thing to do), free soil policies against slavery, banking, railroads, industry and cities.

This was a party that not only was aiming for the rural vote via homesteads, but also one that had a heavy lean towards urban America. Again something that is not apparent with today’s conservative controlled Republican Party. It was a party that believed industry and free markets were superior to slave driven ones. These were the founding principles of the party and it is these principles that should define real republicanism instead of what has crept into the party over the last few decades. Taking into account these founding ideas must also include Abraham Lincoln himself who was a man of principle as well as pragmatism in being the first iconic leader of the Republican Party. Lincoln from his early years warned against the slave holding southerners continuing power growth of the government.

  7. Dennis,

“But what really bugs me is that sites like Alternative Right will just feed into the belief that all conservatives are racists”

This is obviously a problem. It’s more so a problem because many of these ‘racist’ beliefs are not going to go away, which, in my opinion, is due to their being rather plausible. Particularly, I am speaking about the Hereditarian Hypothesis — the Hypothesis that there is a partial genetic etiology to the well researched inter-racial IQ gap. Many call the mere positing of this ‘racist’ — which, to me, betrays their philosophical shallowness and lack of understanding of modern science, specifically that the discussion concerns statistical averages and is, properly understood, value neutral — regardless of whether it has a propensity for being intellectually hijacked.

Overall, the problem is that there are many like myself, who will continue to posit such things as the Hereditarian Hypothesis, who will do so publicly, and who do not care if this causes the republican party to be smeared by the left. One possible solution, or course, is to try to suppress all the people like me, another is to try to come to a more neutral understanding of the particular issues at hand.

I suggest we start with the Hereditarian Hypothesis. Perhaps you could read up on it and write up your thoughts on that specifically. Here is a Liberal fellows meditation on the subject: http://liberalbiorealism.wordpress.com/2009/10/07/the-likelihood-of-genetic-group-differences-in-iq-the-black-white-gap-in-iq/

  8. It is a Euro Nationalist magazine. Look at Kevin Macdonald who writes there.

And yes some there have these type of biological differences argument. But Darwinism is dead. So they are really left with mass immigration.

Here they have a strong argument since most societies are ethnocentric and most societies are clannish and tribal(just look at Africa and elsewhere). The point is should European Americans have a right to have an ethnic identity and promote their interest like other ethnic groups around the world? Do we ask ouselves how Africans would feel if millions of Chinese would migrate there and displace the natives there? Do we ask ourselves how Mexicans would feel if millions of Africans and Chinese and Muslims migrated there and displaced them in less than 40 years or so?

Of course we don’t. So it seems its about hisory as Macdonald says that Whites better understand what it would be like to be a minority around other ethnic groups who are deeply ethnocentric themselves with deep historic grudges against Whites.

Besides Blacks are the biggest losers of mass immigration. And the Nationalist Euro-centrics have a better foreign policy than the Aipac man called Obama. Thats not even talking about the possible ethnic tensions that might occurr if America disintegrates and become another Lebanon. Then it just won’t be Whites who would be afraid but many other Americans over ethnic turf wars between various ethnic groups.

    Think again.

  9. “That is exactly right! It seems that this Alternative Right magazine could almost be a beard for leftists trying to smear conservatism.”

I’m afraid not. The magazine is co-founded by Richard Spencer, a long time contributor to Patrick Buchanan’s magazine The American Conservative.

  10. The ‘identity politics’ of Alt Right are no different than the identity politics of the Democrats- in fact they are even less ‘racist’ they, for the most part, simply call for an end to policies like affirmative action. Barak Obama, whose ancestors were more likely slave traders than slaves, a harvard (thanks to AA) grad, will have kids qualify for special admissions, scholarships that a working class white kid could never dream of getting?

These policies have now been in place for close to half a century and they are expanding, not contracting- wealthy High caste Indians benefit from ‘diversity’ programs at the expense of poor whites… at some point its to be expected that whites will start defending themselves.

Further, look at all the blatantly ‘racist’ and increasingly violent anti-white rhetoric. Look at crime stats- look at black on white attacks – and how they almost never prosecuted for hate crimes.. at some point you have expect whites to react – I would not jump all over AltRight, i’d ask why are whites doing this in the first place?

Lastly, Hispanics are asking for more hispanic immigration, blacks are demanding more african immigration, indians, more indians, chinese more chinese… all are blatant attempts to strengthen their ethnic power base, whites can ignore this at their own peril. …and blacks – just look at how blacks are being ethnically cleansed from L.A. by latino gangs…

As Buchanan points out, we were on our way to becoming one nation post WWII – but the left and right globalists want to end the nation state.
