Is Michael Steele the GOP’s Black Token? Richard Wolffe says Yes

The words “Uncle Tom” and “Token” are political and psychological terms often used by Democrats towards minority Republicans. They are effective manipulative tools which seek to exert in-group pressure on minorities who do not think like they do! No better proof of this was when Richard Wolff, former Newsweek columnist sarcastically referred to Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele as being a “token” during an interview on MSNBS’s Countdown with Keith Olberman“.
In other words, Steele is a race traitor,or a sell out Republican in black face leading a white racist party that is seeking to hide its racist roots. What is odd about this is how the same arguments could equally, if not more powerfully, be made in connection with the Democrat Party.
One could argue that the Democrats bombing Urban Areas with money and electing black Candidates to high office is in itself a desperate attempt to white wash its vile racist history. A history mind you that is more bloody and violent than anything Republicans have ever done. From lynchings to bombings a great deal of the most violent acts often perpetrated against blacks were by Democrats.
Of course, by having Barack Obama, who is a Democrat as President of the United States and, consequently the leader of The Democratic Party, the Democrats have been given an even larger gift by which to white wash their racist past. Obama’s election allows the racist history of the Democrat’s Party to be closed. Giving them free reign to remake history and make the false lie that all the Dixiecrats became Republicans. Additionally, Democrats state that today’s Dixiecats are the modern day version of the Republican Party. This myth that Democrats promote to minorities distorts the Republican Party. Sadly, we have a party leadership that thinks such accusations don’t do irreversible damage.
It is also interesting to note that if Steele was a token that no one who represents the most southern and the most conservative of states knew Steele’s tokenism to be a fact! Why? Because in the overall tally none of them voted for Micheal Steele to be Chairman. It was the territories and the moderate GOP states that put Steele over the top. If this Steele is a token, then he would have won the support of white southern Republicans in becoming RNC Chairman.
Words such as those used by Richard Wolffe have a purpose - intimidation! These terms are merely ways to keep independent blacks in their place. Such terms are used much like a wild eyed cultist against any “deemed” threat!!
Like cults who use terms such as “apostate”, or “heretic”, terms such as “token” are code words meant to alert specific “group(s)” to ignore threatening new ideas. At the heart of these terms is a push not for unity of thought, but conformity of thought! But to those like Chairman Steele who are the constant victims of such hateful words fear not because you are not the first to be called such names and you won’t be the last!!!
Even W.E.B. DuBois, arguably the greatest, most sustained civil rights voice of the 20th
Calling someone you disagree with a name is an old tactic. Minority Republicans, nevertheless, must learn to ideologically challenge such accusations and not sit passively by when these accusations occur. By shamefully offering no reply, or by not coming to the defense of those who are accused we make it okay for it to happen to ourselves the next time around.

I will try to keep this short, Yes Michael Steele is the GOP’s token. Simple reason the GOP does not respect nor do they care about Mr. Steele. His whole emergence as the RNC chairman was a calculated move to stop Obama’s momentum. Not to mention he was running against a whole bunch of people surrounded by controversy, so to choose him would be obvious. The GOP also used the moment as an opportunity to show blacks and other minorities that “see we are diverse too” and guess what people weren’t and aren’t buying it.
Also, enough with that old argument that “the democrats are the real racist party and the republicans did more for blacks”. Everyone knows that the two party basically flipped flopped agendas, today’s democrats are a far cry from the southern democrats of years past….This is not a lie this is fact. Another thing Richard Wolfe calling Michael Steele a “token” does not necessarily mean he’s a race traitor and a sell out that is how you interpreted it. Yes we know the negative connotation of the word “token”, but I highly doubt Richard Wolfe meant it that way. When you say “these terms are to keep independent blacks in their place” what are you saying what is your Place?
This is too hysterical, you contradicted your own argument that the Republican Party has NOT embraced the Dixiecrats ways and means. ….”Because in the overall tally none of them voted for Micheal Steele to be Chairman. It was the territories and the moderate GOP states that put Steele over the top. If this Steele is a token, then he would have won the support of white southern Republicans in becoming RNC Chairman.”
“Riddle me this Batman”, has Mr Tom, errr Steele, been in front any deep, deep southern Racist Republican Group to speak on ANYthing?…….and before you answer …..
SCOREBOARD mf, a Black POTUS, Dems - 1, Rethugs - < 0, LESS THAN ZERO, NOT NOW NOT EVER, MFer NEEV V EE RR !! CAN YOU DIG IT????? Say it loud, NEVER!!!!!!
And the key word here was “If” that is assuming it to be true. But I do not believe it to be true.
Micheal Steele is a token with no self respect. I often wonder about his family and how they really feel about having token for a father or husband.
Cheryl: MSteele is the Black folks’ Nguyen Cao Ky, a Vietnamese Collaborator whom MLK jr Denounced in his Anti-War Riverside Church speech as having fought …”with the French! against his own people”! and who Lauded AHitler as a hero…..Disgraceful!
