Nadra Enzi: The Inclusive Right?

jackkBy Nadra Enzi

Jack Kemp was everything the Republican Party should be but isn’t.

Genuinely inclusive; knowledgeable about various groups contributions to America and unafraid to denounce discrimination and shortsightedness on his side of the aisle.

Where is THAT kind of Republican and conservative after the Obama victory? We’d be hard pressed to envision Kemp leading the ” Birther ” brigade or demonizing Muslims as campaign policy.

I’ve met a few Kemp-esque conservatives at the grassroots level but nationally they often resemble Pat Buchannan’s best bromides. The Inclusive Right does exist but isn’t in high rotation on FOX NEWS or other outlets controlled by what I term the Imperial Right.

The Inclusive Right has to be as loud, though not as crass, as its opposition within the GOP.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one standard bearer worth noting alongside former Republican Charlie Christ in Florida. Dennis Sanders also bears mentioning as a Black Republican who is politically moderate; gay and a pastor.

There is real diversity on this side of the ideological divide but it has to be better marketed.

I’m not your bargain basement Black Republican but that’s already a given. Within a Two-Party System having all Black folks on one side seems silly. Even more silly is expecting us to blindly follow either side’s talking points. While not liberal in the current sense I’m unapologetic about opposing bigotry and thought control, two excesses each party practices.

The Inclusive Right is more than a fond wish. it’s the inevitable result of decent grassroots citizens who demand that the rhetoric stop about who’s praying to Whom and further demand focus upon an anemic economy that’s leaving few if any atheists remaining in America’s fiscal foxholes.

There’s room here for any kind of American who feels what the Left offers generally leaves something to be desired. Just because you’re open minded about religion or public policy doesn’t make you liberal or socialist. Progress has been made on the Right with light years left to go on social issues.

An Inclusive Right is as much a step toward a healthier Two-Party System as a newly Inclusive Left finally freeing Pro-Life Democrats from their plantation-style silence. Both sides have more opening of their minds to do.

One this side of the aisle that’s where the Inclusive Right comes in.

  1. Good points, the GOP should be paying attention to how the Conservatives in Canada and Britain are still conservative, but are inclusive.

  2. Oh Captain!…. well said.

to your point we have Bill Clinton to blame! He signed the Media Consolidation Act into law. We went from thousands of owners of media, and hence a multitude points of view to 5 conglomerates owning everything and now we have no NEWS outlets, only Info-tainment!! the Result being the multi-millionaires Rush, Hannity, Beck the Evangelist and countless minor players preaching the siren song of Corporatism/Plutocrats (Mussolini termed it Fascism).

This is not your father’s Republican Party let alone your grandfather’s, just ask Charlie Christ, Sen Bennett (R-UT), or David Iglesias, the dismissed New Mexico U.S. attorney,. The likes of Lee Atwater, Karl Rove have given Y’all short shrift.
