NADRA ENZI: WHAT ABOUT AN URBAN TEA PARTY?

Why not high profile, center right events where Black citizens and fellow Americans with urban concerns unite to discuss the Obama Administration thus far and community issues? Urban rallies need not be liberal led to authentically air views from this constituency. The ‘hood has been written off and its vacuum filled by folks who raise conservative blood pressure.

Blaming Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson ad naseum is a poor substitute for promoting a competing culture in urban America. Solutions and attitudes generally considered progressive in nature aren’t being met by a surge of songs; plays and initiatives to the contrary. Are urban conservatives hitting neighborhood associations with the same tempo as conferences in upscale hotels? Are they on the local airwaves denouncing the latest inner city shooting?

The playing field is wide open in the ‘hood because it has literally been written off. Having grown up in Forgotten America I made it my business to be forgotten no longer! I started promoting safety and success there. ” Charity begins at home ” so my Capt. Black role centers first upon urban quality of life as an indicator for national quality of life.

What about an urban tea party? What about Black folks and others with urban concerns uniting to address the impact of the first Black president on urban America? What about enlisting attendees to combat fatherlessness; single motherhood; crime and poverty? These seem logical items for an urban tea party agenda.

The existing tea party movement should be invited to join this latest expression of good citizens united for the good of America. The Left; concerned Black conservatives and moderates question whether the overall tea party movement is racially inclusive. Joining urban tea parties is one way to quiet these fears.

Supporting life, liberty and pursuit of happiness is a priority regardless of zip code or color.

So, what do you think about an urban tea party?

  1. Brother Enzi:

    I am game for this.

However a unique course must be taken.
I don’t need to tell you that the Black Community is “defended” by an overlay force. They seek to “retain their flock”, protecting us from what they call on the local Black talk radio station – “New Negroes” who believe that they are free from racism and have better ways to live.

In my analysis of our condition I have crafted a model which I think that we can move forward with. We have been lulled into latching our racial and community development upon the “American Political Domain”. This is where the Democrats and Republicans live, where we VOTE our way into prosperity as a community. Unfortunately in cities like Chicago that have been “won” politically our interests are far from being resolved.

Instead we need to build up the other domain that has long suffered from benign neglect. The “Community Cultural Consciousness and Competency Development Domain” is where our problems reside and where the fix must be applied.

In the CCC&CD this is where we focus upon the human resources that are present within our communities and make clear that they are valuable players for our salvation as a people. The need to have them to fully maximize their potential through education, civility, and enterprise must be communicated.

The goal is not to topple the Democratic Party/ Progressive stranglehold that is upon the Black community. INSTEAD as we look at the major shifts that our people took in time :

    * When Roosevelt promised us more resources via a “New Deal”
    * When Garvey told our people that we should be creating our own businesses and have dignity about ourselves
    * When Malcolm X told us that we should hold our heads high and control our own communities

These are the points in time when there was BUY IN from our people. We saw the benefit and we were sold.

I suggest that with a properly coordinated initiative that the “American Political Domain” would see its importance DECLINE when the basics of our standard of living does not depend upon it. Instead with prosperous, well governed communities will look to protect the resources created from government taxation and redirection.

  2. Constructive Feedback:

ther you’d like to NADRACAPTBLACK@YMAIL.COM is my direct e-mail. I’d like to privately discuss possible Atlanta events and whether you’d like to participate via content like the above or in person.

    Thank you for your response!

  3. One does really have to look sideways at the liberals. Their paternalism turns out too often to be the choking kind. The kind that has choked off self-determination. The kind that keeps the hood addicted to a permanent state of dependency. The kind that brings out candidate “skinning and grinning”(thank you for your voting for me, now stay out of sight and stay quiet, which can also be translated to “stay in your place” until I need you to re-elect me 2 or 4 years from now) These attributes also fit “conservative candidates” (i.e. Ronald Reagan while campaigning in a black community in New York ” I can’t do a damn thing for you if I don’t get elected)The Urban Tea Party would have to conduct a true assessment of the regular tea party’s intentions and objectives. Thanks in part to media and themselves, they come across mad as hell and ticked off. Whether those attributes provide sufficient fuel to win elections and make legitimate changes in the statehouses, the capitol and the white house is another matter. I would definitely have to see what they were about before considering any kind of coalition. The issues of fatherless and single motherhood is linked to relationships between men and women. It is a known fact that the ‘hood does not have a monopoly on the aforementioned. But outside forces have no qualms about focusing on the dysfunctional urban areas because it distracts from the dysfunctional suburbs and gated communities. Regular tea baggers would have to sprout phrases like supporting life, liberty and pursuit as a priority regardless of zip code or color like Nadra Enzi. So often when it is just the black individual uttering the words or some like them, they become the equivalent of a “disclaimer”. Let the “playing field” really be leveled.

  4. I think this is a great idea. Our most pressing concerns are in our urban area’s. I was disenhartened when I heard Chicago would be calling out the National Guard. We need to engage and empower those afraid too speak out and reclaim their neighboorhoods. We all have the same principles and values. We are Americans. For too long we have let the progressives subvert the people, not empower them. Don’t tell me what to think, give me the facts and teach me to think for myself .

I am a regional coordinator for As A Mom in Ma. I joined this group because there is no greater driving force then the caregivers of our childern and grandchildern. Thanks, Marilyn
