Beyond the Pale about Palin, A response to Nadra Enzi: By Leette Eaton- White

It seems that Enzi has made it very clear he is no supporter of Sarah Palin.  Former Gov. Palin is of course a controversial figure and there should be plenty of legitimate criticism concerning her public life, leadership in Alaska and position as a Fox News Contributor.

Discourse is extremely important while on the quest for truth.  Difference in opinion is the spice of life and the American way.  I for one, am an admirer of the former Governor of Alaska.  I have always viewed her as the type of person who did her absolute best to practice what she preaches.  And let’s face it Sarah can be preachy, very straight forward, telling the truth even though it hurts kind of preachy.

That said, Nadra Enzi did not offer much of any quantitative or qualitative criticism in the Beyond The Pale op-ed.  The only thing I got from it is that Enzi just doesn’t like Sarah and seems to hate that tons of people love Sarah.  Enzi referred to Palin’s values as “vapid conservatism” well to be frank the only thing I found vapid was that op-ed.

It lacked anything legit or substantive in terms of why Sarah Palin is not a good voice for Republicans.  Enzi also said this… “Those in Republican ranks need to mobilize against the Sarah Palin coronation before it’s too late.”  Coronation? Really? Like the one Barack Hussein Obama had?  Okay sure … as a matter of fact Sarah may very well agree with that. At the TEA Party Convention she said this “….Put your faith in ideas. And in that spirit, I caution against allowing this movement to be defined by any one leader or politician.”

But I think there is a bigger problem with Enzi’s op-ed. I must say that I regret that I am about to lambaste a fellow contributor but if ever there was a time I think this is it. In being vapid there is a disgusting focus on race, so much so it is not just racial… but flirts heavily with racism.  Yes I said it. I hate that I had to say it but when someone writes “If this is the best the Far Right can offer, let’s disband the GOP and begin anew. How does Caucasian Conservative Party sound?” they have race issues.

The fact that Sarah is white is part of what is wrong with her? COME ON! If this type of article were written about Barack Obama by a white person every last one of us here at HHR would be in arms talking about the irresponsibility and ignorant hatred of it.  People like Sarah because she is a real person and doesn’t pretend to be more than that.  She has concerns that she voices, values that she tries to live up to, and that is what makes her admirable by the standards of a young black, Jewish, city girl like me. I don’t care what she looks like. That’s not important.

If you let the way someone looks override their message then your opinions on the issues are moot. Beyond the pale…. Beyond good taste. Yes, that op-ed was beyond the pale.  If Enzi can’t stop looking long enough to simply embrace and listen to what he said was music to his ears [“Smaller government. Lower taxes. Individual rights. Music to my ears.”] then why on earth should we listen to him?

  1. Utter nonsense.

Your article doesnt even address Capt. Blacks point. Would mainstream America accept any person with her faults being a viable candidate against the current President? You know if she wasnt a “hot” white woman going against a black man.

Black achievement is often diminished and explained away. “Oh she got that because of Affirmative Action” “Oh they just gave him a pass” After the President addressed questions from 141 Republicans eloquently. The GOP is still running with the same meme that he needs a teleprompter to wipe is bottom. Hey dont like his agenda? Fine. Just stop calling him a intellectual lightwight when he has proven at least the accumen for the job.

You see? Your side can explain away a woman that has to write her core values on her hand as being down to earth and folksy. As you just did. But the President wont even get the credit for being at least intelligent enough to tie his shoes. This goes beyond left and right. Diminishing black achievement is a phenomena that many blacks face in this country regularly. And Capt Black was right to point it out where he saw it.

And dont forget SHE USED HER SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD TO SCORE POLITICAL POINTS. What kind of woman does that?

  2. I’m not a racist but Tea Partyers who applauded literacy tests for voters are. Exposing this strain in the GOP serves the interests of decent people of all colors united under its banner. White friends of mine have left their town’s tea party chapters for the same reason. Decent people of all colors see this group for what it is. While I didn’t vote for Obama and don’t agree with his policies I can’t embrace the Tea Party Movement as currently constituted. As a Southerner I’ve seen this type of thinking up close and personal for years and the view hasn’t improved any.

  3. Ms. Leette Eaton-White.

In Tenessee, Ms. Palin directly followed Joseph Farah who claimed that the President does not have a birth certificate. This got a huge appuase. Ms. Palin was never asked to distance herself from this and she never did. This is the tea party. The founder of teaparty.org Mark Williams said Obama was an Indonesian Muslim turned welfare thug and a racist in chief. This is the tea party.

You can be for smaller govt and family values and not support these racist.

  4. Hey!

Mr. Enzi asked a good question, what exactly are Palin’s qualifications?
