Deon Long | Republican Candidate for FL-24

deonlongDeon Long is a young Floridian who is running for Florida’s 24th Congressional District. His campaign message is one that seeks to advance a pro-growth free market agenda while in Washington, D.C. He is also a strong  supporter of both the Fair Tax and for re-implementing the gold standard.

Q&A with Republican Deon Long: Republican for Congress District 24-FL

 Below is a brief bio:

Ometrias Deon Long was born April 16, 1967 in Starke, Florida to Felix Godfrey Long, Jr. and Cotes Long, from Marianna, Florida and Lawtey, Florida respectively. Deon was raised in Marianna, Florida with his two siblings, Dexter and Katrina.

Deon graduated from Marianna High School in 1985. After high school, Deon entered the University of Florida where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor in business finance. During his time at the University of Florida, Deon served in the student senate, with Student Government Productions and was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

While at the University of Florida, Deon met Monique Willis. They were married in October of 1989 and have four children: Cagney Danielle (19), Ometrias Deon Long, II (18), Christian Dumas Long (16), and Carson Delaney Long (Deceased).

After graduating from the University of Florida, Deon attended the University of Michigan School of Law in Ann Arbor. While at the University of Michigan, Deon was an Associate Editor for the Michigan Law Review. Deon graduated from the University of Michigan School of Law in 1993 and became a member of the Florida Bar in 1994. Deon’s first position as an attorney was with Foley & Lardner in Orlando, Florida. Deon is currently a practicing attorney out of Winter Park, Florida.

Throughout the years Deon has been a passionate advocate of school choice and has served as Chairman of Children’s First, one of the nation’s largest student funding organizations, which gives scholarships to low income students to attend private schools. Additionally, Deon was appointed by Jeb Bush to serve on the board of the St. Johns River Water Management District from 1999-2007. During his tenure on the St. Johns River Water Management District board, Deon spent two (2) terms as Chairman. Deon also participates in Step-Up for Children and is on the Board of Directors of the Fry Institute.

In conjunction with his professional and other activities, Deon has been involved with the campaigns of several conservative candidates and has been involved with the Republican Party. Deon’s independent streak has earned the ire of certain members of the Florida Republican political establishment.
