Schwarzenegger Picks Latino “Abel Maldonado” for Lt-Gov of California

If confirmed which seems likely this is great news for the Republican Party in California.
The San Diego Union-Tribune:
Like the independent-minded governor who nominated him, Maldonado is often seen by members of his own party as not sufficiently conservative. But at the same time, Democrats definitely see him as a threat. In fact, they’re already lining up to oppose him. Why? It’s because, like other Latino conservatives, he gets in the way of the convenient narrative advanced by liberals and Latino politicos that only the Democratic Party cares about diversity and that the Republican Party is hostile to the very concept.
It’s that kind of thinking that keeps America’s largest minority under the thumb of one political party and alienates it from the other. And that’s not good for anyone or for the system as a whole.
Abel Maldonado is a good choice for lieutenant governor. We urge the Assembly and Senate to recognize that and confirm his nomination.

I’d say this is good news for the GOP in California. I remember reading how Pete Wilson signed some law and said some things that were anti-immigrant that turned off a lot of Latinos to the GOP back in the 90′s. Arnold later apologized for it during his re-election campaign if I remember correctly.
Ever notice how all these anti-immigrant propositions, and laws just happen to be aimed at Undocumented Immigrants “of color”? I havent heard of any enforcement aimed at oh, lets say, Illegal Irish or Polish immigrants!
Prop 187 here in Calif that Pete Wilson supported as part and parcel of his re-election bid, was an Unconstitutional ballot measure that was designed to deny services to Undocumented Immigrants including public schools, emergency rooms, housing etc etc. Of course as WE ALL know, the constitution prohibits the creation of Second Class Citizens!!
Abel M, a misguided young Latino brother, had the “cajones” to break a budget stalemate by voting for a tax increase for RICH ppl. For this he is the target of the hard right and in danger of losing his seat via recall effort. In response Arnold prolly nominated him so as to keep him in Sacramento.
