Another CBC Member Faces Ethics Woes

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson has steered thousands in scholarship dollars to relatives and the children of top aides, a Texas newspaper reported today.
The Dallas Democrat, a nine-term member of the House, awarded 15 Congressional Black Caucus scholarships to her grandchildren and great-nephew, among others, The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday.
The CBC, which Johnson once chaired, has anti-nepotism rules that prevent directing funds to caucus members’ relatives. Furthermore, the scholarship recipients live outside her Dallas district, another violation of the caucus’ rules.
Johnson first skirted the question of favoritism when asked by The Dallas Morning News. Days later she issued a statement saying she “unknowingly” violated the rules and said she would work to “rectify the financial situation.”
This is just the latest in bad news for black members of Congress. Several CBC members have been under investigation in the past year — most visibly Reps. Charles Rangel of New York and Maxine Waters of California, who are both in the middle of high-profile ethics committee trials.

I was never in favor of term limits, because you throw out the good with the bad. I am now in favor of term limits, because those serving the public have made it their cash cow, their career. They have taken the peoples money to feed their special interest, friends and family as well as themselves ignoring the people they sever woh are truly in need . We arn’t blamless in this. We have taken them at their word, belived the press and not held them accountable. We will and must vett for ourselves the canadiates and then hold them accountable. I would support an independent investagation of all members of Congress for starters. I am convinced that auditing the Federal Reserve has never been done because of all the skeletons that would come tumbling out of their closets. We as a Soverign Nation, not black, white, aisan but as American’s will reclaim our power by knowing who we are voting for and holding their feet to the fire. God Bless America
