NADRA ENZI OP-ED:Sarah Palin: Beyond The Pale

Black folks are needed on both sides of the aisle in a predominately two-party system. Those in Republican ranks need to mobilize against the Sarah Palin coronation before it’s too late. Cynical strategists feel she demonstrates that any White person regardless of denseness equals the current president, Racial overtones are readily apparent and would be funny were stakes not so high.
Her brand of vapid conservatism, complete with crib notes on her palms, should frighten any Republican who’s ever argued America is a meritocracy. If this is the best the Far Right can offer, let’s disband the GOP and begin anew. How does Caucasian Conservative Party sound? Perhaps everyone else can join a Rainbow Republican Party? Black Republicans had better find their lost voices. Even the handful of party faithful among us hasn’t joined Palin’s parade. Her involvement with the recent Tea Party convention alone should spur immediate action, from chairman Steele forward. This august assemblage even applauded reinstating literacy tests!?!
She’s the last gasp of a mindset that cannot accept even symbolic loss to Black people. The Obama election wasn’t a wild ” Black Power ” revolt from a bad 60s B-movie. It proved the majority population will vote outside race when necessary. The Bush recession made Obama’s color secondary to promised economic relief. Governor Palin is an ethnic escapist dream where simple rural girls best slick urban intellectuals. The fact presiding over a convenience store seems beyond her is lost in transmission. This strategy all but assures the Republican Party being America’s ” non-Black ” party. That’s their right but it hands a large portion of the country over to Democrats with a bright blue bow atop it.
Smaller government. Lower taxes. Individual rights. Music to my ears. Striking up the band to play ” Hail To The Chief ” honoring a possible Sarah Palin White House victory is simply beyond the pale.

I read your article with interest and still don’t get your point. I see that you disagree with Governor Palin’s style or her personality and I can respect that but the rest just sounds like jibberish and nonsensical to this “simple, plain English speaking Reagan Republican. I think it is just criticism for the sake of such. Let’s engage in real dialogue about the issues, rather than the messengers. The point is Americans are sick of ALL elitist sounding politicians who say a lot yet say nothing. Perhaps she is doing the same but at least the Governor has proven posotive experience which should not be discounted.
Let’s work together to advance the agenda of fiscal responsibility, personal responsibility, energy independence, quality health care reform that is patient and free market driven, secure borders, illegal immigration criminals adjudicated, a strong military and a balanced budget. When we get some real plans on the table to handle these problems with proven results, then we are on our way of saving our beloved country for the benefit of ALL AMERICANS,
Brother Nadra:
I am typically in strong agreement with you on most points. On this one I disagree with you but not for the reasons that you think.
As I scan the Black blogs it is my opinion that this excess of attention on Mrs Palin AND the “Tea Party” serves as proof of what I have been saying for a long time: The Black Activism movement has been so focused upon the “American Political Domain” where Democrats and Republicans jockey for power. This comes at the expense of the “Community Cultural Consciousness and Competence Domain” - the area that has been neglected and which you appear to focus upon in Savannah.
The amount of coverage of Sarah Palin by various Black people who PURPORT to be keeping an eye upon the Interests of the Black Community - can’t be logically justified. I will come out and say it Brother Nadra - this fear is rooted in “Non-White White Supremacy”. We fear that, if left unchecked, the dark days of the Civil Rights struggle will cover us again. The only problem is that the assaults that we see video of during “Black History Month” are being done, a drop at a time by people who are within our circle of protection.
We cannot allow this movement to distract us from our critical focus. This is mere background noise rather than a threat.
I would rather see Black majority communities not reduce their property taxes so that the school funding remains intact. We need to focus on our tacit membership in the “Tea Party” - making sure that our financial resources are directed toward our community interests rather than used to fund a furnace that has an insatiable appetite.
Capt. Black
It is good hear yoou say that. The woman used her special needs child to try to have Rahm fired. When it came time to stand up to Rush use of the “R” word she called it satire. To repeat, the woman used her SPECIAL NEEDS child to score a political point. What kind of woman does this? This proves a few things.
For an entertainer, Rush has far too much power in the GOP. Especially for a race baiter,
Palin equates the R-word with the N-word,
Palin will use anything she has to gain power, money, and inflence, and dont forget….
Palin will USE HER SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD to score political points.
Constructive Feedback:
Thank you for your response. Rest assured, my eye is always on the community infrastructure ball. Still, I must peer over the divide to assess what occurs around me, not to the exclusion of daily promotion of crime prevention and self-development .
Dr. Gilmore:
A national candidate and spokesperson who didn’t know Africa was a continent; has notes on the palms of her hands; endorses a Tea Party movement applauding literacy tests and generally sounding clueless in all appearances does women; so-called minorities nor the GOP any service. That’s all. Former Secretary of State Rice and numerous other infinitely more capable women could be approached for this role. It seems the lows some seek to stir up conservative discontent knows no bounds. I didn’t vote for Obama but at least know he has the intellect for the job.
To the Tea Partiers,
Please ask yourself, \how will this insistance on limited government affect black communities. What is the end game for Key Partiers like Dick Army and Grover Norquist? No entitlements; welfare, public schools, school loans, medicare, and social security. What happens to the middle class when EVERY thing depend must be bought and paid for. Even if ycut all entitlements and lower the taxes to 5 percent, it will not create incomes that will sustain the middle class. Please realize that many of the institutions that got you here are being attacked by this irrational hatred of the US government. If there are entitlements you dont like lets fix them. But please do not help these people.
just_saying:
You Just said it all! lol.
Spot on Nadra! I’ve been thinking about it, but all the teabaggers, Palin, Hoffman, Far Righters etc… should seriously leave the GOP and make the Tea Party a national party. Look at NY-23, just because DeDe deviated on social issues, but had an A from the NRA and was fiscally conservative was a RINO to the FR and a Know-Nothing candidate knocked her out and she endorsed the Democrat. It’s the teabaggers whining of “not conservative enough” and they’d rather see fiscally conservative but socially moderate politicians lose because of some deviations.
The Tea Party would be like the American version of the British National Party in Britain where they can blame America’s problems on “Insert Group Here”. They would win in the South, but would be a regional party with 5% approval ratings.
Greetings, I have started a movement called the Cotton Field Movement which will serve as a continuation of the Civil Rights Movement that was so easily forgotten as certain Blacks assimilated into mainstream culture. Nadra,
Of course I’m a little taken aback by your tone; being white. I suppose I’m sensitive to your abrasiveness. But I will get over that. See the point of the tea party movement is to say that individuals and entities have interacted in very complex ways to form our current economic system. As F.A. Hayek put it; our “economic order of collaboration”. It is a widely held belief that America has become such a prosperous nation and has “spread the weath” because it was created to for the most part to allow people to interact socially and economically as they see fit. This complex interaction leads to systems that seems to have been designed but has not been. Given this view, most Americans feel that anyone that comes along and attempts to make others beleive that they have all of the answers should be shunned. I think you are mistaking a dislike of old, failed and naive ideas for racism. It is not. It is a deeply held belief that the vast majority of people regardless of race, color, etc can and should take care of themselves and everyone will be the beneficiaries. The government is not required for people to care about eachother.
[...] said, Nadra Enzi did not offer much of any quantitative or qualitative criticism in the Beyond The Pale op-ed. The only thing I got from it is that Enzi just doesn’t like Sarah and seems to hate that tons [...]
Great debate folks. One quick question: What is Governor Palin’s qualfications to possibly seek the Ovan Office? I couldn’t vote for her under any circumstances but nay open to what her supporters say?
One more question: if she were to seek a job on the open market, what position do you think her background could get her?
Tim:
Get used to my tone because Southerners like me know the signs of racial rabble rousing all too well When folks like this are in power, we suffer more than anyone else in America.
Sarah had not a mumbling word about the Congressman’s call for literacy tests? In a Southern town, during Black History Month no less? Saying Obama voters couldn’t spell ” vote?” Are these YOUR views Tim?
