The Irrational Hatred of Sarah Palin: Leette Eaton- White

USA-POLITICS/DEBATE

Few things that come out of the ideological crazed super far left (not your average everyday liberals, but the real coo coo coco puffs) has anything to do with reason.  But it is one thing to be irrational about issues, and quite another to be irrational about a person.  Public figures have always been the butt of jokes, especially those who put themselves out there seeking attention. Politicians are no exception.  Neither is Sarah Palin.

The media is free to make fun of her, by all means do so.  But the media is unfortunately a part of the same crazed far left that I mentioned before.  And instead of making fun of Sarah within reason, they bring her family into it.  Not her husband, a grown man who could certainly handle a pun, but her kids.  Her children who, some of which are just learning how to be adults; her kids who did not desire to be the items of ridicule on late night TV. But not only did they go after her kids, as it has always been from her initial entrance onto the national stage, it has become only increasingly cruel and incredibly unfunny.

Just the other evening David Letterman decided tact was of course not needed. It was a long night of dumping on Sarah but then he took it to a new low by saying this ….

“One awkward moment though during the game, maybe you heard about it, maybe you saw it on one of the highlight reels. One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked-up by Alex Rodriguez.”

Wow, Letterman is one classy guy.  The Palin Camp then released these two statements.

“Any ‘jokes’ about raping my 14-year-old are despicable. Alaskans know it and I believe the rest of the world knows it, too.”

- Todd Palin

“Concerning Letterman’s comments about my young daughter (and I doubt he’d ever dare make such comments about anyone else’s daughter): ‘Laughter incited by sexually-perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/NY entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands – that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.’”

- Governor Sarah Palin

Letterman released a half assed apology this morning.

I don’t need to tell you whose side I am on. But I do need to tell you why I am siding with the Palins.  The rule of decency has always been to leave the children of politicians (especially non- adult children) out of the jokes and any disparaging remarks concerning their parents.

But Letterman not only violated that, he reached a new low by making it sexual.  Let me be clear on this point. That was a sick, perverse, cruel, unwarranted, illogical, vitriolic remark; and there is nothing that can defend it, not even for sake of comedy because guess what… it wasn’t even funny.  It was just wrong.

The constant need by the public left to attack Sarah Palin and her family won’t help them make Republican’s look bad.  It won’t help liberals win elections, and it won’t help change the social makeup of this country. This is just one example of the hypocrisy of the left. I mentioned their inherent racism in my last article, and now their sexism is exposed yet again. Still they say Conservatives and Republicans are the sexist and racist ones!

Just a tip for those of you just starting to wet your feet in the political world there is a saying you should know.  If ever you want to know what the left is doing, check out what they accuse the right of. It never fails.

  1. Sarah Palin is not a target because she’s a conservative. Her many fumbles have given the media fodder. We need serious women like Kay Bailey hutchison. Nobody makes fun of her.

    hutchison.senate.gov/

  2. I disagree with two words: Joe Biden his fumbles and gafts make palin’s pale , but the humor that’s directed at him doesn;t come anywhere near the venom and and underlining nastiness of the jokes about Palin. Actually the humor is so cleverly presented it makes us want to excuse him.

I not only feel guiltly that I used to like Letterman (15-20 yrs ago) but even that he is my age (62)causes me to feel shame.

  3. 5lang, I wold like to know what her daughter’s did to deserve such hate. Furthermore, if Kay ever gets into the public eye you can bet she too will be harassed by the insane left.

  4. Sarah Palin for all her faults and she does have them I think is being unfairly targeted and attacked. Its surprising the sexist comments that people who claim to be utopian liberals have towards her. In many ways this reminds me of the attack on black Republicans from the left. Tolerance and respect are only for those minorities and women who agree with the left, if you disagree with them they will try to tar you. And the women groups and other so called minority groups rarely if ever come to there defense. The National Organization for Women sits quite when sexist words are thrown at her, the NAACP sits quietly when white liberals attack in vile racist terms black Republicans and Libertarians. And then they ask us to defend liberals up for confirmation even though they remind silent when our guys were attacked. So does women rights mean only as long as you are liberal, is racism okay if the target is Clarence Thomas? Come on people??

  5. In his apology, though, Letterman did point out that the older Palin daughter did indeed get pregnant at 18, saying in effect that if they’re so concerned about family values. One can be concerned about ( family values aka out if wedlock births) and because that child is a free agent with there own mind can still rebel against those values, this does not mean that Sarah Palin failed to giver her daughter such values. True love understands that children will do what they want but as a parent, you stand strong and hold them accountable. I think Sarah Palin is doing this and doing it well. Just because people fail to adhere to a standard does not negate the overall relevance and reality of the standard.

  6. Very excellent article.
The left hates Sarah Palin because she’s proof that the Republican Party is for women’s rights.

    Leette:
Kay is already in the public eye and well respected. Palin’s problem is Palin. When she was announced I did my best to defend her but she has failed to impress me.

The media has been unreasonably critical of politicians’ family members for a while. The same thing happened to the Bush twins and Chelsea Clinton.

FYI – I’m no liberal. I was a big Giuliani supporter and voted for McCain (while crossing my fingers and wishing him good health).

  8. I’m still confused. What in the WORLD has this woman ever done to ANYONE? It’s obvious the far-left is fearful of her, but the attacks are so vicious.

  9. The far left media is so afraid of Palin they had to discredit her….She has more executive experience then OBAMA and BIDEN combined…she just signed a deal to continue the natural gas pipeline for the lower 48 …. I find her extremely clear in her speech and appreciate her honesty and REAL ideas for America … Shame on CBS, letterman, letterman’s writers and all those who laughed at his horrible child abuse joke…I have to wonder how AROD feels about being a child rapist….Shame….

  10. As for ugly things said by Letterman, never before has a comedian insinuated on national television that Alex Rodrigues should “knock up” Amy Carter or Chelsea Clinton or the Bush girls. Imus was immediately fired for far less. I’ve had it with the blatant sexual rape blasts directed at conservative women, and to do it to their kids is beyond the pale. The guy should be fired. Enough. WHERE are the feminists? Oh, right. Conservative women are “fair game” for any manner of sexual harrassment- the Playboy article recently was also evidence of that. What Letterman said is disgusting. Since he fathered a baby out of wedlock himself, where does he get off criticizing a teenager who made an unfortunate choice and did the same? Is it ok for someone to hold HIS wife up to national public ridicule and call HER “slutty”? How about suggesting somebody “knock up” HIS kid? Somebody should kick his backside and he should be OUT and off tv. There is nothing “funny” about rape or pedophilia, or David Letterman. Excellent article discussing this reprehensible situation!

  11. The Letterman comment was in very poor taste and just plain foul. It says something about Letterman and something about the political Left of which he is a part.

That said, in my opinion, to some degree, the vitriol directed at Palin reflects the blowback of the GOP playing identity politics. From practically the beginning of the campaign, she was portrayed as a victim of unfair sexist attacks on her character and her intelligence (and there is truth to that). However, she also played the pitbull role from that “victim” position during the campaign for John McCain. She came out with some of the most hardhitting rhetoric such as the “palling around with terrorists” comments and she swung for the fences with that kind of tough rhetoric repeatedly.

The fact that she was a woman and could push back that she was being unfairly attacked, enabled her to make those comments without the McCain campaign having to pay the same political price it would have if McCain had repeatedly used that kind of rhetoric.

In other words, like it or not, as an attractive woman, her political speech is heard and interpreted differently than the same words coming from a white male, just like some rhetoric from Obama would be heard and interpreted differently because its being said by a black male. She used that to help her level her attacks, but she’s now dealing with the gender perception blowback from the left of a woman playing that political role, blowback fueled in part by the underlying sexism in the culture.

  12. Make any excuse you want butttttt it was wrong,

Justify whatever you want buttttttt it was wrong.

    Keep repeating it…. ummmm………… it was wrong…….it was wrong………it was wrong……….

she could be a crack head and her kids would still be OFF LIMITS………..

  13. [...] defended these statements. You cannot call yourself the “Party of Lincoln”, claim that Sarah Palin is “attacked” only because she is a woman, and then stand idly by while racist statements are made in defense of your party and politics. If [...]

  14. Palin has shown her true colors attack others and then defend/deflect your own inadequacy. Going after children is never appropriate…can’t/wont defend that. However, those on here discussing her worthiness and righteousness need to take a step back into reality.

  15. The joke Letterman made was over the line, no question. Minors should not be the butt of jokes at all, never mind sexual ones.

However, this comment: “This is just one example of the hypocrisy of the left.” Of course there is hypocrisy on the far Left. As there is hypocrisy on the far Right. But please don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Just because Palin is at times unfairly attacked by the far Left, doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be legitimately attacked by anyone with reason or conscience.

Let’s take today’s news, and Congresswoman Giffords. Palin can play dumb all she wants, but having sniper targets on a map with actual NAMES attached is encouraging violence:

Now a district attorney and a young child are known to be dead (among others). Thank goodness Congresswoman Giffords is alive. I can only hope this helps to stop the hateful rhetoric used from those who are unfortunately seen as “role models” to many Americans.
