Finding great soul cuisines in Manhattan should be easy, right? Well, not exactly. Often times it depends on where you live. If you live in Harlem where I lived for years, soul food was practically found on every other block. Ironically the best-known soul restaurant in Harlem is owned by a Republican by the name of Sylvia. Sylvia’s is not the largest restaurant in Harlem just one of the best known.
However if you move downtown closer to the upper east and west sides you will find more African and Caribbean restaurants. Of all of them and believe me I have tried most Negrill’s is the best. Negrils is a Caribbean, Jamaican restaurant located in two locations in Manhattan. One is called Negril Village and can be found at 70 W 3rd St.Bet. Thompson & LaGuardia. The other one is smaller and is called Negril Chelsea Authentic Caribbean Cuisine on 362 W 23rd Stone between 8th & 9th Avenue.
My favorite is the Mango BBQ baby back ribs smothered in tropical fruit sauce, served with homemade corn bread. With a price tag of fewer than $16 bucks, how can you beat that? The decor is beautiful, the service terrific, and the food amazing. I highly recommend it to each and all.

Oh lord, those baby back ribs sound DIVINE. I need to make a trip to NYC!
That sauce alone! Homemade cornbread. Mercy!!!
