Edgar Rivas OP-ED: Mary Jane: She’s the Illegal Alien Used to Control Men

image

Government is currently paying Mary Jane 14 Billion dollars* a year to control men. Legalize Mary Jane and tax her! Let’s stop wasting money on marijuana laws; laws created out of deceit. The truth: the current war on drugs has its roots in racism, not in studies proving harm to health, but the hatred whites had against Mexicans in El Paso, Texas, in 1914. In that year, the city of El Paso passed an ordinance that made it illegal to possess marijuana; a law that was created solely to control LEGAL Mexicans.

Why are all Americans getting punished for this historical and irresponsible act of hatred? Rules, laws, and regulations are often abused to control men.

SHAMARA RILEY COMMENTARY: The Libertarian Case For The Civil Rights Act Of 1964

Lack of a moral dimension for liberty is a libertarian Achilles heel and many wind up becoming apologists for imperiling the very freedom that they promote.

John S. Wilson OP-ED: Two Weeks to Justice

image

Faisal Shahzad, the alleged “Times Square bomber,” recently received a preliminary court hearing. It is about time. He has been held in federal custody for two weeks. Shahzad has not been convicted yet and, thanks to our justice system, is therefore innocent until proven guilty. Of course some assert ‘how could he not be guilty, hasn’t he confessed?’ Yes, indeed he has confessed and has waived his right to a speedy trial.

But neither of those facts explain why it took two weeks for Shahzad to have a preliminary court hearing. Attorney General Eric Holder has not stated why it has taken such an extraordinary amount of time. Traditionally, suspects tried in criminal court are arraigned (brought on formal charges) within 48 hours of arrest unless there are extraordinary circumstances.

Connecting Education Through Public-Private Partnerships And The Inner-City

image

While stakeholders in urban areas are busy trying to figure out how to fix the broken educational system in our communities urban conservatives need to think out the box to solve problems. In fact, we should officially divorce ourselves from useless rhetoric. We must make education the #1 issue on our platform. This means we will need to go beyond a band-aid approach to the educational crisis such as school vouchers. These talking points are meaningless if we do not put any teeth behind what we are saying.

You cannot talk about job growth in any area until you address education first. The reason? Without the proper training by taking the time to learn the skills first you will be going to a job unprepared. In an information age we must train our inner city to be prepared.

Edgar Rivas: Republicans: Quick! While Obama Takes a Nap on Immigration Reform…

image

While Obama takes a nap on immigration reform (probably over concerns of a backlash in November for jamming Heath Care Reform up the American you know what), this should provide an opportunity for the Republican Party to offer up its own plan.

If the Republican Party is to change its image among Latinos and recruit more support in this growing demographic, it needs to first change its false image of being a Racist and anti-immigrant party. We need to actively and consistently promote ourselves as a pro-immigrant party across all ethnic lines. But unlike the Democrats who have the BAAAD habit of protecting the so-called rights of even the worst “I”llegal immigrants, the Republican Party needs to continue to make one thing clear: we will NOT condone irresponsible behavior by anyone entering our borders, legally or illegally. Our message to those “I”llegal immigrants that wish to be treated fairly should be: respect our laws and thou shall receive respect. In other words, get in line just like everyone else who is here LEGALLY and you won’t be deported!

The people most responsible for the diet and exercise habits of children are the children’s parents. Why should this concern the federal government?

CHRIS LADD OP-ED: When Black Meant Republican

image

It’s easy to forget now, but just a few generations ago African-Americans overwhelmingly identified themselves as Republicans. The story of how the Party of Lincoln lost its black support is long and sad, but understanding what happened will be critical as the Party looks to improve its standing in the black community.

You could start the story in the fall of 1895, when Atlanta put on one in a series of “International Expositions” designed to highlight its progress in recovering from the war. Racial tensions had been growing since Southerners, at the end of Reconstruction, began instituting Jim Crow laws to curtail black civil rights. Those laws were under challenge at the time and there were differences among blacks on the merits of direct resistance.

Melvin D. Whitlock OP-ED – A Scenario worth Meditating Over: When you think of Amnesty think of this scenario

image

There should be no double standard on the issue of immigration in the United States of America, and amnesty to illegal aliens only hardens the slap in the face towards the many Americans who have waited years to gain citizenship.

CHRIS LADD OP-ED: Securing the Border

image

Whenever any serious effort to modernize our immigration policy ramps up you hear the same objection – no immigration reform is possible until we secure the border. It sounds reasonable enough, but in reality it amounts to saying, ‘we’re not going to call a plumber until the leak is fixed.’

The Lost Son of Havana — Film Review

image

Produced by The Farrelly Brothers in conjunction with ESPN Films, Lost Son of Havana is not only a great baseball film but it is also an excellent documentary managing to gain a foothold inside of Fidel Castro’s Cuba as of November of 2007. Luis Tiant, who was born in a suburb of Havana, Cuba in November of 1940, left Cuba in 1961 for several months to play baseball in the United States. During the interim period of time, however, Fidel Castro’s Regime gained control of the tiny island country refusing to permit those Cubans who were abroad to return unless they did so immediately.

Luis Tiant, therefore, remained in exile in the United States for forty-six years before being given permission to return home to Havana. This is the story, subsequently, which Lost Son of Havana chronicles: Luis Tiant’s exile in The United States playing superior baseball in both the Minor and the Major Leagues for a variety of Teams including The Cleveland Indians, The Minnesota Twins, The Boston Red Sox, The New York Yankees, The Pittsburgh Pirates, and The California Angels.
