OLYMPIC HIGHLIGHT : Cullen Jones, Gold Medalist, 4x100-Meter Swimming Relay Regular Booker Rising readers may remember past highlights of Mr. Jones, who gets our first Olympic highlight spot. The 6'5" sprint swimmer and Olympic eye candy got a gold medal on Sunday night, as part of the blazing 4x100-meter relay team that broke a world record in the process and put the hammer down on the trash-talking French team.
It's even being called the best swimming race of all time, as five teams went below the previous world record.Mr. Jones, age 24, is now the first African American to win a gold medal in swimming (Anthony Ervin does not count because he doesn't identify even as black, so due props for the history books should go to Mr. Cullen. Every black commentator should do likewise to correct the mainsteam media who are saying otherwise, and I see that some are already doing it). Here is the NBC Olympics video link to this historical race (no embed option, so I couldn't put it directly into this post). Michael Phelps was leadoff man, then Garrett Evans, Cullen Jones swam third leg, and the now-legendary Jason Lezak closed it out.
Hear the NBC commentators express doubt throughout the race that Team USA could win, and then quickly change their tune during that smokin' lap by Mr. Lezak. LOL"I hope this exposure from the race today, a kid can see this and say, 'Wow, a black swimmer -- and he's got a gold medal,'" Mr. Jones said at a media event for a tour promoting diversity in swimming after the victory. "The stigma of 'black people don't swim' is coming to an end." Tell it, Cullen! He makes me want to jump into a pool and do a backstroke! LOL Below is video of Mr. Jones describing the x100-meter swimming victory:
