"Oh Nigeria"...Soldiers arrest five militants

Nigerians are under attack from Islamic fundamentalist who want the elections to
go there way. The army has begun fighinting a group of Muslims fanatics in a region called Kano the third largest city in Nigeria, in terms of geographical size,after Ibadan and Lagos.Kano has long been the centre for Nigeria's Islamic culture;one of the largest Muslim in the world mosques lies in the city.

The extremist say they are simply responding to the recent killing of a popular
Imam from the area! The fanatics since last week have been on a jihad killing over
13 people most police officers but they were able to kill(thanks to Allah no doubt)
the wife of a local cop.While many Americans know little about Nigeria the country
is very important strategically and militarily. Nigeria produces a great deal of oil for
this nation and Muslim extremist are very active in this nation.

The present President of Nigeria is a former millitary men who helped speak out against one of Nigeria's most evil dictator's Sani Abacha. He was put into prison for his speeches on human rights while under Abacha. He was released after Abacha died while banging two Indian prostitutes. In 1999 the he decided to run for the presidency as the candidate of the People's Democratic Party. Obasanjo won with 62.6% of the vote.

Since becoming president he has become friends of President Bush who he shares the same Evangelical faith with! However he is leaving after serving his term. His presidency has been full of corruption and scandals.There are over two leading candidates to replace him Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Atiku Abubakar two Muslim's one Vice President Atiku Abubakar is perceived by some Christian's to be a moderate who will be kinder to Christian communities.

But we Americans know a little bit about Atiku Abubakar because should he become president according to wikipedia Abubakar surfaced in a FBI report by the BBC World Service, as the intended recipient of a bribe involving United States Congressman William Jefferson democrat from Louisiana to promote Nigeria's adoption of Internet technology from the American firm iGate, Inc.

According to the FBI, Jefferson allegedly told an informant that he would need to give Abubakar $500,000 "as a motivating factor" for business contracts. Abubakar denies this and claims he was the target of a political witch hunt!Abubakar will run
as a man of experience.

The other candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is a former military ruler of Nigeria who was kicked out by a coup.Buhari also served in Abacha's administration where he had access to millions of dollars for developmental projects around Nigeria. In many ways it was these "handouts" that made him so beloved. Buhari will run as a man of the a man of the people!

Whoever wins lets hope he is a man who admires and supports democracy and while having to to stand up to members of his own faith who seek an Islamic theocracy in this vast nation.
