Micheal Moore sued!!!

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — A double-amputee Iraq-war vet is suing Michael Moore for $85 million, claiming he recycled an old interview and used it out of context to make him appear anti-war in "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Sgt. Peter Damon, 33, who strongly supports America's invasion of Iraq, said he never agreed to be in the 2004 movie, which trashes President Bush.
In the 2003 interview, which he did at Walter Reed Army Hospital for NBC News, he discussed only a new painkiller the military was using on wounded vets.

"They took the clip because it was a gut-wrenching scene," Damon said Tuesday. "They sandwiched it in. [Moore] was using me as ammunition."

Damon seems to "voice complaint about the war effort" in the movie, according to the lawsuit.

But what the father of two from Middleborough, Mass., was really talking about was the "excruciating" pain he felt after he lost his arms when a Black Hawk helicopter exploded in front of him.

Damon wasn't expressing any opinion about the war, the suit charges, but rather extolling the drug.

"I just want everybody to know what kind of a guy Michael Moore is, and what kind of film this is," said Damon. He has appeared in two films attacking "Fahrenheit" -- "Michael Moore Hates America" and "Fahrenhype 9/11."

In "Fahrenheit 9/11," the bandaged National Guardsman is shown laying on a gurney complaining that he feels like he's "being crushed in a vise. But they [the drugs] do a lot to help it and they take a lot of the edge off it."

His image appears seconds after Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) says, "You know, they say they're not leaving any veterans behind, but they're leaving all kinds of veterans behind."

Damon -- the dad of an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy -- doesn't come close to feeling that way.

"He couldn't have picked the worst guy to say that about," he told The Post.
"I'm the most fortunate disabled guy. I've even had a house built for me [by a nonprofit group, Home for Our Troops]."

Particularly outrageous to Damon is the fact that Moore never interviewed him or asked his permission to use the old clip.

"I was complaining about the pain I would've been having [if it weren't for the painkiller]," he said.

NBC is named in the suit -- which was filed in Suffolk County, Mass., on Friday -- along with Harvey and Robert Weinstein, Miramax Corp., Lions Gate Films and other production companies involved with the picture.
Newsman Brian Williams ends the NBC clip by adding, "These men, with catastrophic wounds are ... completely behind the war effort," according to the lawsuit.
That part, which wasn't shown in the Moore movie, is a far more accurate depiction of Damon's feelings, he said.

Lawyer Dennis Lynch said he took the case last year and they held off filing the lawsuit in a bid to settle the matter.
"We attempted to resolve the situation amicably with Mr. Moore [for a year] but he refused," he said.

Damon is asking for up to $75 million because of "loss of reputation, emotional distress, embarrassment, and personal humiliation."
In addition, his wife is suing for another $10 million because of the "mental distress and anguish suffered by her spouse."

Spokeswomen for NBC and Harvey and Robert Weinstein would not comment because they haven't seen the suit. Lions Gate doesn't comment on pending litigation, a rep said.

Michael Moore and Miramax reps didn't return calls for comment.

Self Hate?

It amazes me how people who say I hate myself for being Republican arrive at the uniquely strange idea that political freedom and expression somehow puts you into a weird category of self hate.

How did such lack of info lead to such a strange assumption. I understand that being a black conservative brings hatred, resentment and animosity from fellow black folks who are mostly liberal and also from a few phony white liberals who pretend to be the black man's friend. But I say to them that with great ambition comes great ire which I am fully prepared to accept as long as it is for the better of our society..

Dean Can't Get His Story Straight

DNC Chairman Howard Dean has irrationally lashed out, once again. The Washington Times has a great blurb on his most recent outburst (http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20060531-122949-5192r_page2.htm).

“Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean claims to be reaching out to red-state voters, but yesterday, he suggested that opponents of homosexual ‘marriage’ are bigots.”

This is particularly interesting, given the fact that earlier this month when being interviewed on the 700 Club, Howard Dean falsely claimed that the 2004 Democrat Party platform defined marriage as between a man and a woman.

This latest flip-flop raises the question, where does Howard Dean actually stand?

Africas new Slavery Trafficking

Great article on trafficking!

The perpetrators of this current enslavement going on in the continental African nations today are the affluent indigenous Africans victimizing the less fortunate, less privileged and poverty stricken Africans.

So far, there is no widely known direct involvement of other race in the recruitment and transportation of Africans victims of human trafficking. However, information indicates that some final recipient of human trafficking victims include business owners (factories, hotels, bars and entertainment spots, plantations, etc) in the destination countries in Europe, North America, and other continents.

Profile of common perpetrators generally varies:
Affluent and not-so-affluent
Educated and illiterate.

Highly placed individuals in government and private sectors, both military, paramilitary, security, religious, civilians and businesses.

Almost anybody who could buy the law enforcement and the judiciary.
The common denominator is financial ability.

The practice is very common in the African continent and it is not hidden from public view.
Traffickers also comprise of African immigrants (some are permanent residents and naturalized citizens) who settled in the western countries to escape poverty, injustice, and insecurity in their respective countries. This presents an irony.

It appears that some continental Africans who migrated to various parts of the world have taken the practice along with them. However, it is hidden in the western countries due to good law enforcement actions.

Recently some cases have started to show up in Europe , America and other continents.
The root cause of human trafficking, as in the 14 th & 15 th century era slave trade is poverty and powerlessness.

Emerging Trend

Attention should be paid to the current trend in Africa , example Nigeria , whereby individuals seeking political office and wealth abduct children, especially boys, and virgin girls and slaughter them in various shrines for rituals - otokoto and okija shrines just to give an example.
There is also the widely reported case of
headless Boy Adam in London , which the British Police had determined was a victim of human trafficking originating from Nigeria .

There is also the widely reported case of New York slavery shocker , which the U.S. authority determined was a victim of human trafficking originating from Anambra, Enugu and Abia States in Eastern Nigeria . Examples of highly educated Africans’ involvement

The traffickers are not some bunch of cultural fanatics, traditionalists or illiterates who may not be aware of the illegality of the practices. Quite on the contrary, the average trafficker is an educated (some are highly educated), who are fully aware of the consequences of their actions.
A New York based Nigerian trafficker who plead guilty to rape of his 13 years old ward in New York in 1992 was a medical doctor and child psychiatrist.

The two Nigerian-American traffickers convicted in New York in 2000 were Ph.D. (International Relations) and MSW degree holders respectively.

The two Cameroonian-American traffickers arrested in Detroit in 2000 also are lawyer and pharmacist respectively.

Two Nigerian-American couple convicted in Maryland , USA include a medical doctor and her husband.

Others include government officials – diplomats, etc.
Individuals that cover-up for the traffickers include: medical doctors, nurses, social workers, teachers, journalists, lawyers, etc.

The publisher of African Sun Times, a local African weekly in New York devoted pages of his newspaper July 12-18,1999, page 6; July 19-25, 1999, page 4; and July 26-August 1, 1999, page 14; attacking and vilifying the victim of trafficking for cooperating with Federal law enforcement. The publisher (a Nigerian who migrated to United States ) claim Ph.D. and authorship, and could be seen mingling with African Heads of States, high-ranking diplomats, and business executives. Some of the traffickers are high-ranking officials of foreign embassies and missions who are well versed in laws.

Take the fetish ritual killings by the political class in the African continent, as an example:
On August 4, 2004 , Nigerian police raided a satanic shrine at Okija town in Anambra State and discovered over 70 dead bodies and hundreds of human body parts openly displayed and at various levels of decomposition, as well as over five registers containing the names of the patrons of the shrine.

The police arrested about 40 ‘priests’ and patrons of the shrine.
A federal lawmaker and few prominent individuals made press statements and interviews accusing the state governor of patronizing the shrine and requested the police to quiz the governor regarding the dead bodies found there.
The governor retaliated by publicly admitted visiting the shrine as a client, and added that a powerful syndicate with access to the presidency including the accusing lawmaker and the brother-in-law of the President took him there at gunpoint at about 2.00 a.m. to swear oath of obedience prior to his election in 2003.

The lawmaker and his team counteracted by stating that the governor as a candidate desperate to become governor actually suggested choice of satanic shrine to take oath to seal their agreement, suggested the time to go there and drove the vehicle that took them to the shrine.
However, the governor never addressed the issue of the dead bodies.
These and other revelations on how some Nigeria politicians got into office generated uproar around the world.

December 28, 2004 : After almost four months of investigation, the Police Inspector-General stated in a press conference that forensic and pathological examination show that some of the dead bodies recovered from the Okija shrine had head injuries, which are signs that they were murdered.

March 2005: The Police concluded its investigation, granted bail to the priests and transferred the case files to the Anambra State Ministry of Justice for prosecution.
July 2005: After almost five months of studying the case files, the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice dropped a bombshell when he stated there would be problems prosecuting the priests because the charges preferred by the police against the priests could not support the facts uncovered by the police investigation. In other words, the case was not properly charged.

August 24, 2005 : Chief Magistrate freed the 38 surviving ones on the grounds that there was no evidence to sustain the charges against them. In other words, the case was not properly charged and that was the end of the case – Nigerian style.

Few weeks after their release, fresh death bodies reportedly littered the satanic shrine, again.
This development has raised many questions namely:

Does the legal victory of these ‘priests’ mean no Nigerian law has been violated?
Did the authority deliberately proffer improper charges to cover-up the highly connected individuals involved with satanic worship and human sacrifice in Nigeria ?
Is there some surreptitious manipulation from powerful quarters to shield the ‘priests’ from prosecution, hence concealing the identity of the highly connected individuals?
Why have the police been unable to make public the names in the registers recovered from the shrines, as promised?

Does the Chief Magistrate have the final say on this matter, or are there still other options?
Reports reaching our office indicate that the authority may have deliberately bungled the case to protect the highly connected individuals some of who are; states and federal lawmakers, states and federal government officials, as well as, private individuals with links to the states and federal governments.

Investigation reveals that secret and brutal ancient practice of ritual killing of human beings and sacrifice to seal oaths and covenants among various African countries continue unchecked till this day.

Nigeria ’s current president in recent press statements publicly announced that his nation’s police and judiciary are corrupt, however, he is handicapped in dealing with it effectively.Human trafficking chain and support network

Included in the African human trafficking chain and support network are:
The local recruiters, abductors, headhunters

The middlemen and women

The human (slave) merchants and the dealers on human parts

The custodians of satanic shrines where humans are killed for fetish ritual purposes

The businesses and individuals performing ritual killings (of human beings) in order to gain political power and economic wealth

The social authorities that acquiesced thereby supporting the practice

The institutions including religious, social clubs, community and professional organizations and associations that refuse to speak up

The end-users of the victims in households and businesses

Individuals that cover-up and mislead the authorities and law enforcement

The support network in the law enforcement and the judiciary that cover-up, refuse to investigate and deliberately mishandled the investigation and prosecution of human trafficking cases thereby aiding and abetting this horrendous crime and practice
And finally, the highest level of leadership, the political authorities, the governments that allow these atrocities to go on in their domains.

Not One Black Republican In Congress

The reason for no black Republican representation in congress varies;
while some are cultural most have to do with urban verses rural politics.

If a black Republican which there have been many runs for office,
in a black city his message is shouted down in chorus of racial
mantras.

Corey Booker who is now mayor of New jersey is a Democrat
who supported school choice and his own fellow democrats called
him gay and a uncle tom.

Even more interesting was the email – entitled “New Jersey’s Reginald Jackson: The Preacher as Pimp & Prostitute” – that was received from Amiri Baraka, 71, the former state poet laureate whose job was eliminated after he gave a reading of a poem implying that Israel knew in advance about the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. A few weeks ago, he
labeled Cory Booker “a closet Republican.” and attacked pastor Reginald Jackson. Here’s what he wrote, copied and pasted from the email, and unedited:

A few weeks ago, he
labeled Cory Booker a closet Republican. He then attacked pastor Reginald Jackson.

Here is what he wrote, copied and pasted from the email, and unedited:

Actually it’s an old an old story to Black People, most people I would imagine. The phoney preacher who is actually stuffing his pockets, his stomach or his bed. Reginald Jackson comes to mind with this historic paradigm of corrupt misleadership.

Actually it’s an old story to Black People, most people I would imagine. The phoney preacher who is actually stuffing his pockets, his stomach or his bed. Reginald Jackson comes to mind with this historic paradigm of corrupt misleadership. He has at least two P’s going for him.

“His game begins by masquerading as a “Man of God” when actually he is a Man of ‘the Man”. i.e., he represents “White Power” the rule of corporations and racial privilege. Internationally it is called Imperialism.

“Whenever the Imperialists pull his little chain he is ready to bark like any hound, whatever they want. When the Zionists attacked me for exposing Israel’s foreknowledge of 911, Jackson supported this low attempt at character assassination. I wrote him a letter then asking did he know the difference between Judaism and Zionism and suggested he take a look at his bible once in a while.

“Now he is dragged out of his Tom House to bow wow for the Star Ledger that the accurate portrayal Ras Baraka made at the state house of Corzine’s siding with the Trojan Horse, Corey Booker, in his attempt to bring white power back to Newark, is “playing the race card”.

“Ras told Corzine and his state hatchet persons, that to intervene in City affairs in Newark and not in all the cities, especially during an election, is suspicious. And that they spoke from a racially and economically privileged place which is why they could casually & coldly stop funds Newark City Council earmarked for the Newark Library, Museum, Symphony Hall, La Casa Don Pedro, Rutgers dormitories, the new Museum of Afro American Music, and other important city needs.

“The tragic-comic truth is that pimps and prostitutes like Jackson are the race card.! Their whole existence is based on achieving an entrance (a back door) into the white power camp, then grovelling their way down to a mouthpiece of backwardness. A well heeled heel.

“Is Jackson suggesting, after his well publicized tailing and co-opting of the racial profiling issue in New Jersey that racism has ceased to exist. Is that what his “faith based charity” pay check has written on it? “AINT NO MO RACISM, DUDE!”

“Jackson seems to believe that we can be made to believe that God is a Tom! Or maybe it’s just him. That sounds more likely!

“(Last night the white (racist) power advocates began pulling down Ras Baraka’s signs in the South Ward. It smells like the work of the Bookeremuses Oscar James and Carl Sharif. Ironically Booker’s handlers reportedly told him in a long meeting that his cabinet could not have Ex Felons -James or Musims -Sharif. Keep Tuned)”

-Amiri Baraka

This is what a Republican would have to go through, who would
spend there money and time dealing with such attacks.

One can only imagine if Corey were a Republican, he would
have never won office.

Also Ray Nagin them mayor of New Orleans had to quickly change his party just to get elected;
I still think Nagin is a Republican at heart.

African Americans are constanly bambarded on election day they are victims of
Republican racism or oppression of some sort.

"You didn't get the job"? It's because of the Republicans
"Mail is coming late"? It's because of the Republicans
"Did not win the lottery"? It's because of the Republicans

It is odd when one thinks about it, because you would generaly assume
that if there were problems in ones district the person to accuse
would be youre congressman not another party.

But as long as Republicans are the boogeyman;
Democrats will continue failing there constituents all the
while point the finger at the evil Republicans...how convient!

Also an untold secret is how Democrats for years prior to Tom Delay,
are the real masters of gerrymandering. No majority white congressional district is allowed to go without the representative 12-14% black population, otherwise the district doesn't constitutionally represent the black population as a whole.

However, I've never seen any Democrat concern for the overpopulation of blacks in numerous districts throughout the US without much white representation (Maxine Waters' district for example). This is where democarts get almost all black votes from--black overpopulation of certain districts.
Gerrymandering and the DNC are very cozy ideals.

Wikipedia’s definition of “Black Conservatism”

Black Pundit has added on his site a link from Wikipedia
on black conservatism.

http://blackpundit.com/

He wants everyone to know that if you are unsure what side of the party you are on, read this and this should clarify the conservative side!

Black Conservatism is a political and social movement within African American culture which emphasizes American patriotism (and in extreme cases, jingoism), and right to far-right Christian values. Contemporary black conservatives find common ground with American conservatives of other races, which sometimes put them at odds with the largely “left” majority of African American communities.

OVERVIEW:
The perspective held by many Black conservatives is typically in conflict with some of the key points in the common social, economic, and political positions that a high percentage of African-Americans are in favor of. Particularly in regards to reparations for slavery, affirmative action and Black nationalism. It should be noted that while most African-Americans have a neutral stance on Black nationalism and integration (as long as there is an even playing field), Black conservatives are clearly in favor of African-American integration with mainstream America.

For many Black conservatives, in their own point of view, the key mission is to bring repair to the Black community by applying fundamental principles that are known to work regardless of the race of the people who choose to apply them. Their fundamental principles are: the pursuit of educational excellence as a means of assention within the society; policies that promote safety and security in the community beyond the typical casting of a criminal as a “victim” of societal racism; and local economic development rather than looking toward the federal government for assistance.

Black conservative politicians, in this regard, are more inclined to be supportive of GOP economic policies (i.e., globalization, free-trade agreements, tax cuts), militarism, regional interventions, or other agendas that the vast majority of Blacks are in opposition of and therefore they are viewed as being promoted to high positions in government due to their supporting views/actions.

A fundamental breaking point between the Black Liberal and the Black Conservative is focused around the balance between the impact that historical slavery and oppression has on Black people living today versus the power and consequences of personal choices that a person makes in determining his ultimate fate. The Black conservative is more inclined to advance the notion that individual choices toward success and a commitment toward changing one’s individual behavior will allow the individual to advance in society with respect to the rights that Blacks have been afforded due to the Civil Rights Movement. The Black liberal counters that collective success in which the least among them are focused upon and brought up to standard is worthy of consideration. Black Conservatives find common ground with Black Nationalists to the extent that they both believe that the black masses have been duped by the politics of condescending white liberals vis a vis the maintenance of the Welfare state.

Black conservatives also tend to be culturally conservative and put a priority on maintaining stong ties to black cultural and family traditions. This would include preferences to Jazz and Gospel music over Hip-hop and so-called Urban Contemporary music. Black conservatives favor traditional nuclear family arrangements and oppose Gay Marriage. They are particularly strong critics of out of wedlock births.

In the tradition of African American politics and intellectual life, black conservatives tend to side with Booker T. Washington as contrasted with W.E.B. DuBois.

Top Ten: 10 Worst Rappers of All-Time

James Manning a fellow blogger from Los Angeles, California,
came up with this list of the 10 Worst Rappers of All-Time.

Hip Hop Bots(people who do anything a hip hop artist tells them) are attacking him for this list saying he must be secretly white!

1. Lil Wayne – This little joker should never touch another mic. His style is wack, his lyrics are wack, his attitude is wack, his look is wack… the worst there ever was and probably ever will be.

2. Lil Romeo – Ok, pops put you on the scene but you are garbage. Maybe one day you’ll grow into a respectable rapper. But right now, you suck.

3. Vanilla Ice – Hell, everything that needs to be said has already been said about this cat.

4. E40 – The worst the west coast has ever produced (and the west has produced a lot of bad rappers). His voice is annoying and his style is… is… hell, what style? I can’t even think of one good record that I’ve ever heard from him. When I hear one of his songs or see him on TV, I just automatically say, "nigga please" and reach to tune him out.

5. Chingy – Marketing is a hell of an art. That is the only reason Chingy sold anything. Luda hooked him up. But they say never kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. Chingy didn’t learn that and for that, he has been exposed as the wack rapper he always was.

6. Lil John – God, I can not stand this dude. How the hell did he get a record deal. His most famous line is.. Whhhaaaat!!! I challenge someone to come up with one verse the brother has recited that made you go 'damn, that was tight'. You can't because all that comes to mind with Whhhaaaaat. And the top five rappers should be ashamed of themselves that they rank higher than this bastard. Lets face it, if you have a 'Lil' in front of your name - you suck.

7. Jermaine Dupri – I give the man props on his business skills. But he still sucks as a rapper.

8. Coolio – If it wasn’t’ for the hair and the Lakeside beat, we would have never known you.

9. Lloyd Banks – Mr. Mush-mouth. I can’t understand a word he is saying. Is he talking are rapping? Don’t matter, he ain’t saying nothin'.

10. Young MC – This man represents everything that went wrong when white folks started liking rap. From young MC came rap in television commercials and news anchors ending the telecast saying ‘bust the move.’ He should be number 1 except the (9) rappers before him are just too inept not be where they are. Young MC single-handly brought about the demise of rap as an urban genre. I hope you are happy with yourself.

I have to do a Honorable Mention because I just want to communicate to the following rappers that I have not overlooked the fact that as rappers, ya'll suck as well.

Honorable Mentions: Nelly, Tone Loce, DJ Quick, Luke, Mase, Lil Flip, Charlie Baltimore

Racism Then, Racism Now, Racism Forever!

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour refuses to posthumously pardon an African American man who was falsely imprisoned over 40 years ago for trying to desegregate a Mississippi college. Clyde Kennard, an army veteran who served seven years in Korea and Germany, only wanted to complete his education closer to home.

He had been a third year undergraduate student at the University of Chicago when he was refused admission to the all white Mississippi Southern College. To teach this uppity "Nigra" - as we were called in the south - a lesson, they plotted to kill him but ultimately decided to have him convicted and imprisoned on false theft charges. I guess to add insult to injury and to perpetuate the stererotype of black folks love of chicken, they convicted him of stealing $25 worth of chicken feed! The sole witness recanted, but sadly, Kennard died in 1963 of cancer.

Mr. Kennard's supporters have asked Barbour for a pardon but he said he will not even consider it, no matter what the parole board recommends. Read this callous response from his spokesman:

"The governor hasn't pardoned anyone, be it alive or deceased. The governor isn't going to issue a pardon here. The governor believes that Clyde Kennard was wronged, and if he were alive today his rights would be restored. There's nothing the governor can do for Clyde Kennard right now."

I have written before about Barbour's racist comments he's made in the past and his affiliation with the new Klan, the Council of Concerned Citizens. The picture at the top is Barbour at a CCC barbecue. He has been asked to have the CCC take his picture down from their website, and like his pardon of Clyde Kennard, has consistently refused. People like Haley Barbour make me sick to my stomach! To think that in the year 2006, there are still people clinging to a past most southerners would rather leave behind. Attention Ken Mehlman. Do you still wonder why the Republican Party has a hard time finding acceptance among African Americans?

Black Republican of the Month

Black Republican of the Month

Yaphet Frederick Kotto (born November 15, 1937 in New York City) is an American actor. His father was a Igbo Jew from Cameroon and Kotto is a practicing Jew by faith. His father was royalty in Cameroon making Yaphet the son of the Crown Prince of the Royal Bell family of the Doualla region of West Africa's Cameroon.

He recently claims to have uncovered proof that he is the great-great-great-grandson of Britain's Queen Victoria. According to Kotto, the queen's son Prince Albert Edward VII had an illicit affair with Princess Nakande, daughter of King Doualla Manga Bell, producing the light-skinned Alexander Bell, Kotto's great-grandfather, but the deputy press secretary to Queen Elizabeth categorically refuted the story saying, " . . . Edward VII never visited Cameroon."

Kotto got his start in acting on Broadway, where he appeared in The Great White Hope, among other productions. His film debut was in 1963 in an uncredited role in 4 For Texas, but his first big break came in Nothing But a Man in 1964. He also starred as an auto worker alongside Richard Pryor and Harvey Keitel in the commercial failure but cult favourite, Blue Collar. Kotto landed the role of the James Bond villain Mr. Big in Live and Let Die. Kotto also starred in Across 110th Street, Truck Turner, Alien.

He played Baltimore police Lieutenant Al Giardello in the television series Homicide: Life on the Street.

His son, Fredrick Kotto, is a real-life police officer with the city of San Jose, California.

Kotto campaigned for Steve Forbes's bid for the Republican Presidential nomination in the 2000 primary elections.

Kotto is married to Shirley Kotto, a Catholic, and recently claims to have seen the apparition of the Virgin Mary at Marmora, Ontario, Canada (known as Our Lady of Marmora).[citation needed] The couple have bought a house near Marmora and applied for landed immigrant status in Canada. It is unclear if Kotto has fully renounced his Jewish faith or not. However, according to IMDB.com "to this day, he remains a devout, practicing Jew".

He is also Republican.

Black Leaders Condem Bush on Guest Worker Program

A coalition of black leaders is calling on Congress to pass an enforcement-only immigration bill and reject any proposal that gives amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. The coalition is called
Choose Black America, and it includes black leaders from all over the U.S. who are concerned about the effect of illegal immigration on their community.

Coalition member Jesse Lee Peterson, founder of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), took part in a news conference calling for tighter border control. "The black community has been affected by illegal immigration and illegal aliens first in the areas of education, jobs, family housing, [and] social services," he observed, "and so the people are jumping in and insisting that the government do the right thing.

" These black community leaders "want the illegal alien lobbyists to know they cannot pull the race card on this issue," the BOND spokesman asserts. "This is not a race issue, and it’s not a civil rights issue -- it’s an American issue. No amnesty and no guest worker program; it’s time that America consider its citizens first." Peterson says black members of Congress who support amnesty are not representing the views and interests of their constituents back home

Do Black Fathers Matter?

by Maggie Gallagher

November 23, 1998 — "I'm old, and I'm tired," William Raspberry told a distinguished group of (mostly) black scholars and community activists at a recent historic conference co-sponsored by Morehouse College and the Institute for American Values. "And some things I just don't want to debate anymore. One of them is whether black fathers are necessary for their kids."

The applause was thunderous. For decades the debate over the decline of marriage has been hampered by fears that "fatherless families" were just code words. As Dorothy Roberts, a law professor at Rutgers University, put it in a new book, "The Politics of Fatherlessness": "Even when race is not mentioned, powerful images of promiscuous Black mothers and their shiftless partners shape the debate about fatherlessness."

In this "revisionist" view so beloved by a certain type of liberal, African-American males' increasing defection from family life is not a crisis but merely a successful cultural adaptation to harsh circumstances.

But while they were defending black single-parent families, such advocates failed to notice they were also sending a different troubling racial message: Black kids are somehow different from white kids; they don't need fathers. And black men are somehow different from white men: They can disappear from the family without leaving a hole in their kids' hearts.

The conference is one sign that many African-American men and women are no longer content to frame the question in this way.

Not that there isn't plenty left to debate, even after conceding Raspberry's point. In 1960, for example, three-quarters of black babies were born to married couples, and eight out of 10 black wives married for life.

Today, 70 percent of African-American kids are born out of wedlock, and more than half of black marriages end in divorce. How did it happen? And what, if anything, can be done about it?

Are cultural change or global economic forces more to blame? Is reviving marriage a realistic possibility, or should we concentrate our efforts on helping "fragile families" — poor, unwed mothers and fathers?

The Ford Foundation's Ron Mincy argued for a "marriage-plus" over a "marriage-only" strategy, emphasizing the large role that economic factors play in pushing young black men away from marriage. Eighty-six percent of never-married black men make less than $18,000 a year, compared to about 68 percent of never-married white men. Even more strikingly, 71 percent of divorced black men make less than $18,000 a year, compared to just 44 percent of divorced white guys. Declining male wages is certainly an important part of the story of the collapse of marriage.

Boston University's Glenn Loury points out that even if fatherlessness is to a large extent a "moral" problem as much as an economic one, that doesn't mean we have no obligation to help. For culture, he points out, is not an individual achievement but a communal one. "Otherwise we are expecting kids to be heroes," he said, to pull themselves out of deformed situations by their own unassisted efforts. He invites us, in other words, to exercise our own moral imagination: Suppose you are a young black teenager in a jobless, gang-ridden neighborhood with bad schools, raised by a mother, dearly loved, who nonetheless struggles alone perhaps with episodic bouts of depression, drug addiction and welfare dependency. How effective would you be at pulling yourself out of poverty?

All of us Americans, warned Raspberry, and not just the black community, are in danger of "making the norm what people do." The problems besetting African-Americans are just an intensified version of the family fragmentation all Americans are experiencing.

The solutions may be difficult, but perhaps at long last we can agree on the shape of the problems.

To the question, "Are African-American fathers necessary?" the only possible answer, as Raspberry concluded, is "Damn straight we are."

African HIV Myths

HIV/AIDS Is Bad in Africa Because Africans are Hypersexual

There is no evidence to support the claim that African sexual practices are any more deviant or abnormal than any other group of people. This well worn and rather tired stereotype resides in the Anglo-American imagery of African sexuality more than anything else. Many factors fuel the pandemic in this region, including poverty, lack of adequate health-care infrastructure, the failure of the international community to react in a timely manner to the pandemic and lack of political will. In addition, HIV 1 subtype C is the most prevalent strain of the HI virus in this region, which in itself is responsible for half of infections worldwide. There is evidence to support the claim that this strain is much more efficiently transmitted through heterosexual sex. Thus, myriad social, economic, political and biomedical factors contribute to the severity of the pandemic in this region.

HIV Was Invented to Get Rid of Black People and Homosexuals

The idea that HIV was invented by humans deliberately, to get rid of black people and homosexuals, is widely regarded as a conspiracy theory. The evidence to support this claim is tenuous at the best and people who believe it disregard the evidence of the similarities between Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) that occurs in apes and HIV, as well as the fact that the first cases of HIV have been traced back to 1959, a time when the technology was simply not available to engineer HIV. The most credible origin theory is that SIV jumped species from chimpanzees being hunted and killed, either through being eaten or blood transference through cuts and wounds sustained by hunters. In some cases the hunters would have been able to fight off SIV, but in others it would have mutated into a specific strain of HIV. See http://www.avert.org for more details.

Facts on Infant mortality in African American Women

Myth:
Infant mortality is higher for Blacks because so many black adolescents are giving birth.

Fact:
Studies show that Black mothers lose their babies more frequently than white women regardless of age..

Myth:
Black infant mortality is high because too many black mothers are single.

Fact:
Studies of the relationship between marital status and low birth weight (an indicator of infant mortality) show that Black women had higher rates than whites regardless of their marital status.

Myth:
Black infant mortality is high because too many black mothers are uneducated.

Fact:
Studies have shown as large a disparity between Black and white women among those with college education as among less-educated women. Studies of socioeconomic status and race show that while white women tend to have improved infant mortality rates when socioeconomic status improves, Black women do not.

Myth:
It's genetic. Black infant mortality is high because of genetic differences between blacks and whites.

Fact:
Studies have shown lower incidences of infant mortality among foreign-born black women, compared to US-born Black women, suggesting a non-genetic cause.

Myth:
Black infant mortality is high because too many black mothers do not receive adequate prenatal care.

Fact:
Studies show that prenatal care offers some limited improvement in Black infant mortality rates. To be effective, studies suggest that prenatal care must also include activities to reduce those risks that are highly prevalent among Black women or unique to Black women

Black Invention Myths

Perhaps you've heard the claims: Were it not for the genius and energy of African-American inventors, we might find ourselves in a world without traffic lights, peanut butter, blood banks, light bulb filaments, and a vast number of other things we now take for granted but could hardly imagine life without.

Such beliefs usually originate in books or articles about black history. Since many of the authors have little interest in the history of technology outside of advertising black contributions to it, their stories tend to be fraught with misunderstandings, wishful thinking, or fanciful embellishments with no historical basis. The lack of historical perspective leads to extravagant overestimations of originality and importance: sometimes a slightly modified version of a pre-existing piece of technology is mistaken for the first invention of its type; sometimes a patent or innovation with little or no lasting value is portrayed as a major advance, even if there's no real evidence it was ever used.

Unfortunately, some of the errors and exaggerations have acquired an illusion of credibility by repetition in mainstream outlets, especially during Black History Month (see examples for the traffic light and ironing board). When myths go unchallenged for too long, they begin to eclipse the truth. Thus I decided to put some records straight. Although this page does not cover every dubious invention claim floating around out there, it should at least serve as a warning never to take any such claim for granted.

Each item below is listed with its supposed black originator beneath it along with the year it was supposedly invented, followed by something about the real origin of the invention or at least an earlier instance of it.

Blacks flock to the Republican Party

-by Felicia (Fee) Benamon

As a young black conservative, I am happy to see more black people taking an interest in or switching to the Republican Party. It's a party of inclusion for people of all races. If you are the type of person who likes to work hard to achieve your dreams, if you are conservative in your views, you will find a place in the Republican Party.

For years, the Democrat party has been taking the black population for granted. The Democrat Party is today, the party of socialist programs, and handouts. A "get by free" card. It's true that sometimes people need a little help from time to time, but that's where we come in as a community. The government shouldn't be the one to take care of you. We are to help our neighbors. Big government is never the answer.

"A government that is big enough to give you all you want is big enough to take it all away." --Barry Goldwater

"The most terrifying words in the English language are: 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help'." --Ronald Reagan

The Democrat party (or a Democrat candidate) promises you that it will take care of those who are needy in exchange for your vote. Sorry, but I don't need anyone to take care of me. Republicans like to stand on their own and achieve their dreams on merit and strength, not because of help to manipulate the system. Black people are starting to realize that the Democrat party only wants them to stay dependent on them, and not to branch out and be strong themselves. Take affirmative action for instance. It is now said that Affirmative Action does more harm... of course it does! Not only are specific ethnic groups getting a slight advantage over everyone else who are working hard, but those people who don't "meet the requirements" of Affirmative Action are jaded and upset that it is unfair someone less qualified than them are getting ahead and they should have been the one to succeed. There is no level playing field. So in a sense, it is another form of discrimination and racism. I don't know about you, but I want to make it on my own merit, intelligence, and hard work. Not because I am a specific skin color. Democrats and the liberal, PC way of thinking supports using Affirmative Action to achieve "diversity" in colleges. Diversity is fine, just as long as the people have worked just as hard as others to get in. We should be color blind.

Conservative issues

One thing that binds us in America is our conservative values. Most Americans are fairly conservative. The Democrat Party has not been shy about the issues they support. The party is just a front for Far Left liberal groups who wish to do their work through the Democrat Party, and the Democrat Party is happy to oblige. For instance, the Homosexual movement(Democrats expected to back gay marriage).. Most black people are against Homosexual marriage, or anything of the sort. Many blacks switched and voted for President Bush over this big issue last year during the Presidential election. That and the issue of abortion. Those seem to be the two biggest topics that have dominated news headlines in the past few years. Black people want to keep our traditional values. So we turn to the Republican party.

Political Correctness

Over the years, the Political Correctness has run amuck. Democrats have favored this tactic in order to, in their opinion, make all ethnic groups happy, and not to offend anyone. Well, I find Political Correctness to be offensive. I believe these terms originated in the 1990s. Black people are now called "African-Americans". This totally annoys me. I prefer to be called a black lady. No problem. It's worked before. But we have to be PC now. People are "______-Americans". Not just American. Can't we just say "Oh, he's Chinese, or she's a Hispanic lady, etc." We all know that if you are a citizen of this country, you are American. We don't need the hyphenated term. This only separates people into groups. The "Chinese-Americans" over here, the "African-Americans" over there (by the way, I was born in America, not Africa). We don't need to be divided like this. We are supposed to be a family. You see where I'm coming from? So that nonsense needs to stop. WE ARE ALL AMERICANS! Proud Americans! We are an inclusive society. We should not have to worry about offending someone because we didn't use a Politically Correct approach. The Democrat party has been happy to allow liberalism in this form to sweep across America. It has been dragging our society into a pit.

For the people

The Republican party is truly for the working people. There is a misconception about the Republican party, that it is only for the rich. And the Democrat party is for middle class, or poor people. If that were the case, then shouldn't the Democrat party give people incentives to strive harder to reach their goals? Not to give handouts and have promote unnecessary social programs? But to encourage people to make a better living for themselves? To get on one's own two feet? That's what the Republican party does. I am reminded of this quote:

"Give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, you will feed him for a lifetime."

The Democrat party can't keep giving people handouts and expect them to be weaned off of that and grow and become independent to do something on their own. We must teach them, show them how to become successful and to encourage and enlighten. More and more black people have decided they will not be dependent, they are going to do it for themselves. The Republican party wants all to succeed. Hard work, drive, positive attitude, our values, all are important in helping us reach our goals.

Conservative blacks emerging

President Bush has been the only President in history to ever elect so many people of different racial backgrounds to his cabinet. The more notable ones are Colin Powell & Dr. Condoleezza Rice. She is the first black lady elected as Secretary of State. She is an inspiration to me. She's a hard worker, very intelligent, and is TOUGH! President Bush saw something in her, she had the qualifications (stellar qualifications might I add) and is doing quite wonderfully now. President Bush sees no color, only your accomplishments. I am glad to see more conservative journalists, and people in the media emerging. Funny how we conservative black people who support the Republican party get labeled as "Uncle Toms, Aunt Jemima, sell outs, etc." Anything racist like that. What is wrong with thinking for yourself and making a decision what party to support? Everyone assumes that blacks will automatically vote Democrat. Well, not anymore. Check out (Welcome to Wayne Perryman Online, Articles).

Final thoughts...the Republican PartyThe next time you go to a gathering of Republicans, look around. These are people who are bonded together by their love of family, conservative values & traditions, love of God, etc. It shows mightily. I have seen many people of different backgrounds at Republican gatherings. There is such an atmosphere of love when I attend. It's not at all like what you hear. I have experienced no racism whatsoever. Only good friendships and a welcoming spirit. The Republican party has come a long way, but it still has a ways of getting out its message to blacks and other ethnic groups. It is definitely a party of inclusion of all people. But blacks are noticing a difference between the Democrat Party and the Republican Party. The Republican party wants all to succeed, and work hard. The Democrat party is increasingly falling to the Far Left liberals who want people to be dependent on them and their socialist way of living. Not happening for me or other blacks who are wise to their tactics.

So if you are curious about the Republican party, do some investigating yourself. Do not believe rumors, try the party and see how you like it. If the party lines up with what you believe, if you are a conservative, the Republican party is for you. Check out what the Democrat party stands for, what causes they support. That will give you an indication whether or not you want to align with their party. Whatever party you support, make sure you are true to yourself, that you aren't voting a certain way or supporting a certain party because you've always done it that way, it's a family tradition, etc. Both parties have changed over the years. Keep up to date with what they stand for. Remember, the Republican party believes we are all the same underneath, and should be given the same opportunities to rise to greatness, everyone on equal footing. No preferential treatment. We are ALL AMERICANS. One Nation Under God!

Black Greek Organizations Are Needed

by Akindele Akinyemi

As Alpha Phi Alpha begin to celebrate their 100th anniversary this year we should acknolwledge not just the men of A Phi A but all of our brothers and sisters who are part of a Black Greek Organziation. Black Nationalists groups always call Black Greek organizations sellouts. Even though these organizations have struggled since their inception they have stood the test of time.

Black Greek Organizations are NOT sellout groups like these desperate nationalists claim. They are great service organizations that have helped African Americans achieve greater success throughout time.

The reason why Black Greek organizations were founded was to bring African Americans together and develop unity on college campuses.

I know that Black Nationalists often point out that A Phi A was not the first Black Greek organization in the country. This credit goes to Sigma Pi Phi or the Boule. What Black Nationalists conspire is the fact that we have a Black "elite" running Detroit under the direction of the Boule. Many often point out that former Mayor Dennis Archer is a part of the Boule and this is why he gave the city away.

Such garbage will get us all killed.

Black Nationalists also attack organziations like Links and Jack and Jill. These groups traditionally are Black and conservative in their lifestyle.

Black Nationalists discourage young people from joining Black Greek organizations because they will live a "Greek" lifestyle. How ludacris can you be? I don not know ONE person that is living a Greek lifestyle. In fact, many of them embrace African centeredness as a lifestyle.

However, I would like to say to these Black Greek organizations that even though you produce positivity we need to kill he ignorance that goes on in these organziations. Hazing and traces of black on black racism are an obstruction to producing a more vitable community.

We should send a message to Black Nationalists that they should stop criticizing organziations that are doing good for the Black community.

"Hip Hop In The Church"

by Jeff Yale

Graffiti on the signs and walls, a patio of table tops painted with covers of hip hop albums, a full-sized basketball court and a skate park are just the first things you notice as you pull into the parking lot of Crossover Community Church in Tampa, Fla. When you enter the building you are not greeted by a couple dressed in their Sunday best offering free coffee. You are entering a the hip hop church. You most definitely will feel loved and accepted, but you won't find the "traditional church experience" here.

In the sanctuary, the walls are lit up with pictures of the Tampa skyline. The lights dim, and the DJ starts spinning his beat. Lights focus on a group named Harmony, similar to the kind you would expect to see in an urban
nightclub setting.

While the group is singing, the presence of God fills the place and people start worshiping Jesus. While Harmony sings, the lyrics are presented on four TV monitors.

After worship, everyone is welcomed and offered a free full-color magazine about the church. They're also given a CD filled with hip hop songs and personal testimonies about life-changing experiences with Jesus Christ from music artists in the church body.

After prayer and a multimedia presentation, everyone meets the pastor of this thriving congregation, Tommy Kyllonen. On this Sunday, he's wearing a Philadelphia Phillies cap backward and a warm-up jacket of his hometown's basketball team, the 76ers. He stands behind his pulpit, which resembles a large can of spray paint, and starts to do his thing--be a voice of God to a culture that traditional churches have not embraced.

Kyllonen, also known as hip hop artist Urban D, is the man behind this church. He was born into a pastor's home in Philadelphia, and the two most important things to him when he was growing up were Jesus Christ and hip
hop culture.

Near the end of high school, Kyllonen had a hard time blending Jesus with his culture, and he started to rebel. As he began to search for answers and seek God, he accepted the call God had on his life. In 1996 he graduated from Southeastern Bible College.

After graduation he took a job as youth pastor at Crossover. The church had 40 adults in attendance on Sunday mornings when he started, and only four young people. Kyllonen had his work cut out for him.

During his first year he started a basketball league, put on hip hop concerts and held outreaches that grew to 60 the number of kids in the church. The next year that number doubled. Over the next several years more than 200 kids attended, while the Sunday morning service stayed traditional and still drew about 40 people.

The church went through three senior pastors in four years, and by 2002 it was obvious that God had prepared the church for Kyllonen. Tommy had seen how God used the blending of hip hop culture with the gospel in the youth ministry, so he took the opportunity to build the church in the same way, all the while fully relying
on God.

Crossover has gone from one service that reached 40 people to three weekend services and 500 people. Each year the church hosts an urban workers conference at which people from all over the world learn about
hip hop ministry.

Kyllonen has taken the elements of hip hop culture--music, dance and graffiti--and applied it at Crossover to reach that culture like no other church in the world.

"They want their worship, study and service to be a piece of their daily lifestyle, not segregated into Sunday mornings," Cameron Strang, founder of Relevant magazine, says of Crossover.

"Hip hop is everywhere," Kyllonen points out. "From radio and TV to selling clothes and even cars. I want to impact this culture with the life-changing message of Christ, not just here in Tampa but around the world."

Crossover Community Church is proof that hip hop and the church can co-exist. For more information about Tommy Kyllonen or his ministry, visit the Crossover web site.

Black Republican... "Democrats' Worst Nightmare"

Robert Novak

May 29, 2006

Richmond Myrick, the principal of Largo High School, is a registered Democrat in overwhelmingly Democratic Prince George's County next to Washington, D.C. He has not been active politically and is not recorded as having made any contributions to candidates for federal office. Yet recently, he stood in the parking lot of Prince George's Community College adjoining his school to introduce Republican Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, whom he has endorsed for the U.S. Senate.

Myrick is African American, as are most students at Largo High. So is Steele. If enough non-political blacks follow Myrick's course, Steele will become the first black Republican elected to the Senate in 32 years. That is the Democrats' worst nightmare. Democratic dominance in Maryland has been based on maintaining a hammerlock over the state's substantial African-American vote. Steele threatens that domination.

Steele sees national implications and put it to me this way in a conversation before the recent rally in Upper Marlboro: "It's a breaking point. I've heard the talk: 'Hillary, Bill, Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, all are coming in to campaign against you. They can't bear to see you win this race.' If I win this race, I am sure that the whole dynamic changes."

This is a potential bright spot in a dreary 2006 election vista for the Republican Party. In addition, two other African-American Republicans are running for governor -- Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell in Ohio and former professional football star Lynn Swann in Pennsylvania. A victory by any one of them would constitute a rare GOP breakthrough in the black vote, but a Steele win in Maryland would be most exceptional.

Maryland typifies the pattern of blacks supplying nearly unanimous support for Democrats but getting little to show for it in the way of major offices. The party's choice this year to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the retirement of Paul Sarbanes is Rep. Benjamin Cardin of Baltimore, a hard-working toiler in the vineyards during 40 years as a state legislator and congressman. The feeling in political circles is that Cardin's time was due after so many years of tireless if unexciting service.

The flamboyant Kweisi Mfume, former head of the Congressional Black Caucus and the NAACP, has waged a serious Democratic primary challenge on Sept. 12 against Cardin. Mfume is so underfunded that he is unlikely to win, but the scars of the intraparty conflict could drive blacks to Steele in November.

Democratic leaders were not happy when Steele, as running mate in 2002, helped pull even a mere 5 percent of the black vote for Robert Ehrlich, the winning Republican for governor. Running by himself for the Senate, Steele will surely do much better. His own surveys show 14 percent, with an upside potential of 44 percent. If Steele gets 25 percent of the black vote, he is probably the winner.

I asked Myrick why he had endorsed Steele. "He came to school not just for a brief visit, but spent the whole day," the principal told me. "He showed he cared about the students and teachers." What about Cardin? "He hasn't been here," said Myrick. When I asked if he even knew who the veteran congressman was, he said he did not.

Steele is a conservative and pro-life on abortion (balancing Ehrlich's pro-choice views on the '02 ticket). He says became a Republican at age 18 when he heard Ronald Reagan address the 1976 Republican National Convention.

But at Prince George's Community College with Principal Myrick at his side, Steele whacked President Bush's educational policies (especially defunding support for low-income college students). In his brief remarks, he could not find anything favorable to say about the president.

He was even tougher on Bush in talking to me: "In the eyes of blacks, [Hurricane] Katrina was a 9/11 event. You didn't fly over 9/11. You got on the ground in the rubble. You should have been on the ground for Katrina." Republican regulars don't mind this sort of talk. They know Steele, their former Republican state chairman, from fish fries all over the Free State. He can say whatever he wants to score a historic victory of national proportions.

First Black Journalist Killed In Iraq

A wave of car bombings snatched the lives of two CBS News team members covering the war yesterday, including veteran cameraman Paul Douglas (pictured), a British national who was the first black journalist to die in the ongoing violence. Mr. Douglas, 48, soundman James Brolan, 42, and 39-year-old CBS correspondent Kimberly Dozier were accompanying the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, to film a Memorial Day story about what life is like for the troops in Baghdad when a car packed with explosive blew up nearby. The three were outside of their armored Humvee, with troops who were examining a roadblock in Baghdad, when the blast happened, according to CBS and Iraqi Police. Mr. Douglas and Mr. Brolan were killed instantly. Ms. Dozier is in critical but stable condition and is being treated for injuries to her head and legs. The deaths of the two men, who both lived in London, bring the number of journalists killed in the Iraqi conflict to 71, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Correspondent Mark Phillips offered this short tribute to Mr. Douglas: "It was Paul's smile, the one that never seemed to leave his face no matter what horror he was witnessing. And from Bosnia to Afghanistan, from Rwanda to the Palestinian territories to Iraq, there were few horrors of recent history that Paul Douglas had not witnessed. Paul was one of those people you wanted around when things got dicey. He could charm his way through hostile country, he could defuse the belligerent tension at an armed roadblock. He would get the reluctant to tell you their story. Paul could disarm anyone with his good natured ways, given the chance. Today he had no chance. Paul Douglas was 48 years old when his luck ran out on a Baghdad street. He leaves a wife, two daughters, three grandchildren, and an elderly mother behind."

Everybody Hates Chris

Everybody Hates Chris is an awsome show; I really like it!

It is smart and funny which is rare in this day of tv. Glad to see it will be on the CW next season.I love the quick humor. If you dont pay attention, you can miss a joke. I like the real-ness of it... you can say "yup, my parents...."
Also it's in tune with Chris Rock's standup comedy routines.

The stuff in this show is good because it's based on reality, not some really lame situations that some stupid writers made up.
George Lopez also has great standup comedy routines, but his TV show sucks because it has nothing whatsoever to do with his comedy routines. It's just a really lame, generic family sitcom. I would have loved to have seen a George Lopez sitcom about poor mexican-americans and all the crap they have to go through.

Below is a review of the show in case you ahve yet to watch it.

BEVERLY HILLS - The fall TV show with the biggest buzz has turned out to be "Everybody Hates Chris," a UPN sitcom narrated and produced by, and loosely based on the teen years of, Chris Rock.

Yesterday, Rock tried to soothe fears that his involvement would be minimized once the series began.

"I don't think I've ever done anything and walked out," Rock told members of the Television Critics Association yesterday. "I don't think there's any evidence of that. ... My name is Rock, not Chappelle."

The show stars 12-year-old Tyler James Williams as young Chris, who, like Rock, lived in a tough part of Brooklyn - the eldest of three kids in a loving but strict two-parent household - and was bused to a predominantly white junior high school more than an hour away.

The Italians and the Irish, Rock recalled, were his primary adversaries in that new environment. He said, "They would beat me and the Jews up."
Asked if his humor developed as a way to protect himself from bullies, Rock said that was a fallacy.

Bullies, he said, would say, "That's funny. I'm gonna punch you in the face now."
And while the premiere episode shows Rock standing up to a bully before getting beaten up, Rock said the reality wasn't even that dramatic.
"I got kicked until the bell rang at 3 o'clock and I went home," Rock said, "but that's not a funny episode."

Rock cited "The Jeffersons" as his "favorite TV show of all time," and John Amos' patriarchal role on "Good Times" as the sort of tough and strong but loving father he has Terry Crews playing as his own dad on "Everybody Hates Chris."

"I wanted to give him that James Evans nobility," Rock said.
Most sitcom dads, Rock added, he dismissed as "theater" - a term he explained as "not gay, not straight, just theater."

Rock admitted he'd rather not spend time with the "hoopla" of promoting a new TV show, but had no problem shooting out funny one-liners in response to questions.

# Asked how he felt about producing a family sitcom when his own standup act featured lots of profanity, Rock replied, "People that curse have families, too. ... I'm married. I got kids. I grew up in a family."

# Asked how he found young Williams to play his teen TV counterpart, Rock said, "I was at Michael Jackson's house, right? And in the driveway, this kid runs out ..."

# Asked if there were any alternate titles before "Everybody Hates Chris" was chosen, Rock said UPN wouldn't approve "Let's Shoot Chris in the Head" - then offered other similarly made-up alternative titles that got big laughs from reporters, including "Mad About Chris Rock" and "Rockfeld." * * * NY POST/LINDA STASI "Everybody Hates Chris" Tonight at 8 on UPN * *
WHILE I love Chris, I don't really love "Ev erybody Hates Chris."

And despite the fact that Chris Rock may, in fact, be the funniest man on the planet, his much-hyped sitcom, which debuts tonight, just doesn't deliver his usual over-the-top rock 'n' roll.
But then again, maybe I'm just offended by his jumping on the relentlessly ignorant stereotyping of Italian-Americans as bigots, morons and uneducated slobs - which this show milks dry.
The show is based on Rock's teen years growing up in Bed Stuy but traveling two hours by public transportation each day - at the insistence of his parents - to school in an Italian-American neighborhood.

First day of school, little Chris (played by the phenomenal Tyler James Williams) gets into a fight with a fat, gross kid, Caruso, who right off calls him "n- - - - -" and "Satchmo," and "cornbread."

Let me just point out that had I ever used those words in my Italian-American home I would have landed (courtesy of the back of my mother's hand) in the next county.
I can't imagine my own daughter ever heard those words when she was little - except on TV.
The cast's mom (Tichina Arnold), dad (Terry Crews) and sibs - Drew (Tequan Richmond) and Tonya (Imani Hakim) - are all very, very good. But what's missing here are the big laughs, despite Rock's clever narration.

For example, when Chris gets into a dust-up with Caruso, he's doesn't duck out of the after-school fistfight because everybody knows that schoolyard fights are always broken up in a minute. Meantime, 30 minutes later they're still fighting. Instead of both kids looking the worse for wear, they just get their shoes dirty. Who knew that Brooklyn in the '80s was worse than Alabama in the '50s?

It's not that you can't make fun of bigotry, it's just that if you're going to do it, and you're going to do it on a sitcom, it better be hilarious - or it just becomes the very prejudice you're trying to parody.

The premise is so promising, however, that there's a good shot that the show will get funnier - Rock is too smart to not fix the flaws. * * * NY DAILY NEWS/DAVID BIANCULLI To say that "Everybody Hates Chris," which premieres tonight at 8, is the best series UPN has ever presented isn't giving it enough praise.

It's one of the best new shows from any network this year, and is a total, almost giddy delight from start to finish.

The title, a playful flip of the just departed "Everybody Loves Raymond," is instantly understandable and likable.
So is the premise, which has Chris Rock narrating stories from his own adolescence - his own version of "Wonder Years," beginning in 1982, when he was the only black kid bussed to an otherwise all-white school.

Rock's comic voice - both his perspective and the way he barks certain syllables for emphasis - give "Everybody Hates Chris" lots of energy from the very first frame.
But he's far from alone.

He and co-creator Ali LeRoi, whose own contributions to this sitcom shouldn't be overlooked, tell the story of Chris Rock, age 13, in a way that makes it both hilariously specific and wonderfully universal.

On camera, young Chris is played by Tyler James Williams, the most ideally cast young actor in a sitcom since Fred Savage starred in "The Wonder Years."
Like Savage, Williams looks and acts wise beyond his years, but still looks realistically like a kid. You can believe him, as Chris, when he tries to stand up to a white school bully by trying to "out-black" him.

You also can believe him when he smothers a flushing toilet with pillows out of fear of awakening his sleeping father.

The parents in "Chris" deserve special mention, and are given their own clearly delineated characters.

Rochelle (Tichina Arnold), the mother, is firm but loving, looking out for her husband and children without in any way deferring to them. Julius (Terry Crews), the father, works multiple jobs to provide for his family. He obsesses over any perceived wastefulness, including spilt milk, while adoring his young daughter Tonya (Imani Hakim), and providing a strong role model for Chris and his younger brother, Drew (Tequan Richmond).
It's significant, and welcome, that Julius is a black patriarch on TV representing that father really does know best.
On broadcast network television, that's a list that previously pretty much starts, and ends, with John Amos on "Good Times" and Bill Cosby on "The Cosby Show."
It's much more significant, though, that "Chris" is laugh-out-loud, think-about-it-afterward funny.

When Chris gets into the inevitable after-school fight with that white bully, the interminable length of it is played for laughs, as is the use of "Ebony and Ivory," a song from the time setting of the show, on the soundtrack. It gets laughs - but hidden within that scene, and others, are quick commentaries on race, and police, that would be right at home in Rock's incendiary standup act.

"Everybody Hates Chris" is a perfect TV pilot, establishing the premise and characters almost effortlessly. There's been some concern about how involved Rock will be in the series as it progresses, but I'm not worried.
It's in good hands with LeRoi - and Rock quickly will come to accept and embrace the obvious, which is that this sitcom is one of the best things he's ever done.

Be honest, No One Care's about "Race-Relations"

I have come to realize something within my short life span, no one really gives a **** about race relations, it is solely a political card that is played for the benefit of political gain be it votes or economic..

Being black I have seen it this way, some people do not like me, and some people will use my color to bait me for their political agenda. (Which I actually find more offensive then the overt racist.)

Personally I do not care about any race including my own (Never put me in your little "community" garbage.) :P. I am for myself, my profit without any meddling hands. - Concentrating on race relations does not benefit me in any way shape or form, - There is no money to be made in people holding hands singin kumbaya, and that is what life and everything in it comes down to for me .. profit potential..

Come on let's be brutally honest, no one really gives a damn about "race relations" at all.

Would Martin Luther King, Jr. be Republican today?

Very few people know that Martin Luther King was a registered Republican,
but what about today; would King, have been a Republican today?

I think both parties Martin would have problems with. Remember, he was a Minister first. I think he would run into the same type of moral decisions many Black Christians run into. He would be wary of those who purport the faith yet their policies do not demostrate it. He would be against the war as he was against Vietnam.

He would stand with the Republicans on most of the moral issues like abortion and gay marriage but probably would have stood against some of other issues like immirgration, affirmative action, and he definately would have been against the wiretapping program. Remember that he was wiretapped and all he wanted was equal rights. He would have supported social programs that help the needy but at the same time worked to make sure those that abused it were dealt with. He would still be a champion of civil rights and at time that would put him at odds with the republicans. I believe he would have been torn as most Blacks are.

Resegregation of the Omaha School District?

What's everyone's take on this? I don't know a lot about it except that the plan was introduced by an African-American. Apparently, there will be three school districts: one predominently Black, one White, and one Hispanic.

Does anyone know anything about this plan?

...The "N" word....

The "n-word" is the ugliest racial slur ever created. It is a word known primarily as a means to denigrate African Americans. The word packs such power to represent overt racial hatred, most people - regardless of race - will not even utter it.

One thing be clear, im a Nigerian-American male. I was born here but was raised and grew up in Nigeria so im very ccustomed to traditional virtues as well as Western ones. For a very long time, i never thought that i would be referred to by that dreadful word. Growing up in Nigeria at the time i did, it was almost never heard of for a kid to refer to someone else by the word, despite the huge exposure to hip-hop there and the fact that about 98% is black. I do not ever recall being called the slur back there. Even so, i used to come to America for summer vacations and never encountered it. Granted, one time some white guys yelled, 'go back to Africa' at me from a passing car. Another time a group of white men in a bar accused me of stealing a wallet; one of them called me 'Jackson.' But they didn't use the word, 'nigger'.

So, what's it like to be called, 'nigger'? I finally did understand on this very fateful day- 16th of October 1998. It was the first time i ever was called by that ill word, at least to my face and knowledge.

I really would not go into much detail about so as not to beat around the bush so i'd cut to the chase. I sat in the place that i did not know belonged to this white kid, whom was widely believed to be the strongest kid in the class. The kid was late and i had no place to sit so i decided to stay in his place for the time being. He then came in about 10 mins later and i felt someone slap me hard across the back of my 16 year old head. He then said, "What the fuck are you doing in my place, you stupid nigger". And there i was, shocked and stunned given the fact that i at least knew it was a derogatory word used to describe someone with melanin in them. He repeatedly used profane language in my face and pushed me over. Indignation and animosity filled up in my heart, and in a sudden swing, i abruptly got up and lividly delivered five of the most violent punches i ever remember delivering to anyone. I battered the hell out of this guy's face and then bodyslammed him on the table, much to the shock and possible fear of the whole class considering the fact that i was seen as a quite, easy-going and tranquil person who would not hurt even a fly. The teacher then walked in and then saw blood gushing from this guy's nose and was told what happened. She then sent me outta the class and later in the day, i was suspended and my parents were called in. We both maintained that if i were to be suspended, so should he since he provoked me and that happened, with him getting a longer suspension. But the pain of being referred to by that horrenduos slur.

I was deeply upset. I knew his intent was to demean me and undercut my sense of self. After my suspension, i marched right to the principal and my teacher and made it crystal clear that should this kind of overt racism repeat itself again, what happened previously would serve just as a tip of the iceberg.

In my opinion, everyone; wait, - every black folk- has a "nigger" story. The most embarassing and confusing fact is that this rather gruesome word is now glorified by the very people it has the most direct effect on; us. Everyone from rappers to comedians to even some athletes makes use of the word, and to make it seem more approachable, they make the excuse of altering the spelling and sounds. As in taking 'er' off the end of the word and replace it with an 'a', and 'nigga' becomes a term of endearment. Do i agree? Never.

If you look at the origin of the word, you'd see it was derived from the Latin word for the color black which is spelled 'n-i-g-e-r". It all relates to how African slaves were robbed of the power of self-identity; how African Americans have been trying recapture that ever since. Indeed, we've been known by many names: colored, Afro-American, black, Negro, African-Americans. Some people say when young black people call each other 'nigga', instead of 'nigger, ' they're merely writing a new chapter in the African American re-naming tradition.

The truth is, the word itself makes most white people nervous. A lot of college professors, who make a living off talking about words, speak the word when lecturing about hate speech. But they do so with caution because sometimes the most well-intentioned use of the word can cause problems.

For many African Americans or black folks for that matter, it doesn't matter how the word is pronounced or who says it. It is never, ever appropriate. I am one of those people. I have never referred to anyone with that word. I do not, never have and never will. My best male friend is male and he knows about my hatred for the word. Since i do not call anyone the word, i do not expect to be called that. I don't even feel comfortable using the word because it causes me pain. I do not think it is ever appropriate for anyone to use - not even among black people-. People fought and died over that word and still do. But it goes deeper than that. 'Nigger' was a tool to keep black people in their place in the Jim Crow south.

The pain and awful memories evoked by the word nigger may just never go away. The word can wreak havoc in the lives of some white people as well.

Pedophile Party Wants Age of Consent Cut

May 30, 2006

DUTCH pedophiles were launching a political party to push for a cut in the legal age for sexual relations from 16 to 12 and the legalisation of child pornography and sex with animals.

The Charity, Freedom and Diversity (NVD) party said on its website it would be registered officially on Wednesday, proclaiming: "We are going to shake The Hague awake!"

The party said it wanted to cut the legal age for sexual relations to 12 and eventually scrap the limit altogether.

"A ban just makes children curious," Ad van den Berg, one of the party's founders, told the Algemeen Dagblad (AD) newspaper.

"We want to make pedophilia the subject of discussion," he said.

He said it had been a taboo since the 1996 Marc Dutroux child abuse scandal in neighbouring Belgium.

"We have been hushed up. The only way is through parliament," Mr van den Berg said.

The Netherlands already has liberal policies on soft drugs, prostitution, and gay marriage, but the NVD is unlikely to win much support, the AD quoted experts as saying.

"They make out as if they want more rights for children. But their position that children should be allowed sexual contact from age 12 is of course just in their own interest," anti-pedophile campaigner Ireen van Engelen told the daily.

The party said private possession of child pornography should be allowed although it favours banning the trade of such materials.

The broadcast of pornography should be allowed on daytime television, with only violent pornography limited to the late evening, according to the party.

Toddlers should be given sex education and youths aged 16 and up should be allowed to appear in pornographic films and prostitute themselves.

Sex with animals should be allowed although abuse of animals should remain illegal, the NVD said.

The party also said everybody should be allowed to go naked in public.

The party's programme also includes ideas for other areas of public policy including legalising all soft and hard drugs and free train travel for all.

It won't take long for liberals in this country to take hold of this and make it a civil right to destroy the life of a child for their own sick selfish pleasure.

Former Toledoan eyes House on GOP ticket

By ROSE RUSSELL

POLITICAL observers might say there's no chance that former Toledoan Yvonne Rayford Brown can beat her opponent in the race to represent Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives in November.

The Rogers High School graduate - in her second term as mayor of Tchula, in the Mississippi Delta - is not on the ballot in the June 6 primary. She is the lone Republican vying for the 2nd U.S. Congressional District seat to represent her adopted home state.

In what promises to be a much-watched race, it could also be an uphill campaign for Ms. Brown. Her opponent will be determined when Mississippi Democrats go to polls for the June 6 primary. On that ballot are Democrats U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, the incumbent, and his challengers, Mississippi state Rep. Chuck Espy and Dorothy Benford.

Hey, Ms. Brown knows about what may seem to others to be impossibilities, and they've never stopped her. She won't let any difficulty or slim chance get in her way now.

After all, you don't win a second term as the GOP candidate in an impoverished Democratic town with a population of 2,300 without making some of progress. It is believed that Ms. Brown is the first black female Republican ever elected to run a Mississippi community.

In fact, maybe Toledo officials could learn from Ms. Brown. According to the Mississippi Link, since she became mayor five years ago, Tchula has created a walking track, softball field, and public pavillion, built a boat ramp and fishing pier, and put in health and fitness and playground equipment.

Tchula also has constructed a $1 million municipal building, secured $3 million in federal appropriations for water, sewer, and street construction, and proposes an affordable housing project, according to the Vicksburg Post in Mississippi

Toledoans should remember the Rayford family. Retired educators Bennie and Hilda Rayford are the parents of four children they raised here before they returned to their Mississippi home in the late 1980s. I had the privilege of going to school with Yvonne and LaVonne, the Rayfords' second daughter and whom we knew as "Pye." Yvonne's late brother Bennie and sister Gail were much younger, of course.

If Ms. Brown wins in November, she will make history - again. She will be the first black Mississippi Republican since the post-Civil War era to take a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The last time a black Republican represented the state of Mississippi at the federal level was during the Reconstruction era. John R. Lynch was a Mississippi congressman from 1873-1877, and again from 1882 to 1883.

Mississippi also gave the nation its first African-American senators during the Reconstruction era, and they were also both Republican. Hiram R. Revels was in the Senate from 1870-1871, and Blanche K. Bruce was a U.S. senator from 1875-1881.

Lord knows if Yvonne Rayford Brown will win in November. In fact, as a Christian, she's trusting God, and makes no bones about being a woman of faith.

If she doesn't win, it won't discourage her. She's not that type. Trust me on that.

She just might surprise her congressional opponent, who would be well advised not to dismiss her and try to cruise through to Nov. 7.

Tony Snow's ..."Tar Baby Comment Exposed"

Racism not part of Tar Baby Comment, Democrats Exposed
Again!

By LUCINDA MacKETHAN

Those who have recently been decrying a "racist use" of the image of the Tar Baby might benefit from knowing more about the allusion and its origins.

Tony Snow, now the White House press secretary, certainly found himself in the proverbial Brier Patch when he used the image to describe his predicament when facing his first meeting with the Washington press corps.

The infamous Tar Baby originated as a figure in a grand scheme detailed in an African-American Brer Rabbit slave tale. These stories, in which the sly rabbit always manages to outwit those who are stronger and more powerful than he, were shared by slaves who took great pleasure in the trickster rabbit's exploits.

Brer Rabbit is supposedly weaker than those around him, just as the slaves were, but in hundreds of tales based on African lore he manages not just to escape but also to outwit and embarrass his persecutors. Shortly after the Civil War ended, the Brer Rabbit tales were appropriated by Joel Chandler Harris, a white journalist who created an old former slave character, Uncle Remus, to tell the stories.

Uncle Remus narrated these comic tales in columns that Harris wrote for the Atlanta Constitution. Eventually the tales were collected into a series of books that made Joel Chandler Harris, Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit famous (Harris was invited to the White House by Teddy Roosevelt, a great fan of the tales).

The stories have a common plan: Uncle Remus tells the Brer Rabbit tales to a little white boy, the son of the old black man's former owner. While Uncle Remus might seem to be an Uncle Tom, a slave who loved his masters and looks back fondly on the times before the war, Remus clearly relishes explaining the rabbit's wily ways.

Harris once explained to his readers that his character Uncle Remus understood all too well how the balance of power in the Slave South worked against all slaves, who in order to survive had to depend on quick-wittedness and deception.

So we come to the most famous of all the Brer Rabbit tales, the Tar Baby story. In Uncle Remus' tale, the sticky doll is designed by Brer Fox as a way to catch Brer Rabbit. Brer Fox knows that Brer Rabbit will insist that it speak to him, as a sign of respect.

Sure enough, when Brer Rabbit encounters the Tar Baby on his path, he is insulted when the doll refuses to acknowledge his greeting, and he grabs hold of the sticky arm and soon finds himself hopelessly stuck (Snow's analogy to his own situation in the Bush White House might be all too appropriate).
In Uncle Remus' story, it looks as though Brer Rabbit's goose is cooked, to mix a metaphor. Brer Fox thinks he has finally caught his prey, until the rabbit, in a wonderful example of reverse psychology, tells Brer Fox to go ahead and do anything he wants, but "Please don't throw me in that Brier Patch."

Brer Fox can't resist the opportunity to make his enemy suffer the worst of all fates, so he does exactly what Brer Rabbit begged him not to do. Once in the briers, Brer Rabbit, free of the sticky tar, hops happily away with a final taunt: "I's born and bred in the Brier Patch, Brer Fox."

In some circles today, the Tar Baby seems to have evolved into a racist stereotype insulting to African-Americans. Harris was not immune to prejudice against blacks in his own time. However, he understood the slaves' ability to survive, and he never altered the plots of the Brer Rabbit tales that he had heard when he worked on a plantation himself, as a white boy living in poverty in middle Georgia.

The Tar Baby story celebrates the ingenuity of the slave and his determination to get free at any cost. The plantation South was the slaves' brier patch, and the Tar Baby just one of many traps set by a powerful foe.

Snow's reference to the tale, given the workplace he has just joined, seems to fit.

And instead of being insulted, people of color today can take pride in the fact that, in the original story, they are the literary descendants not of the Tar Baby but of its nemesis, the persistent, victorious Brer Rabbit, who knows a good Brier Patch when he sees one.

Meet "Pan Troglodytes" the Chimp who Gave the World HIV

Scientists find missing link between HIV, chimpanzee virus

- Lawrence K. Altman

By studying chimpanzee droppings in remote African jungles, scientists have found direct evidence of a missing link between a chimpanzee virus and the one that causes human AIDS, they reported. Scientists have long suspected that chimpanzees are the source of the human AIDS pandemic because at least one subspecies carries a simian immune deficiency virus closely related to HIV, the human AIDS virus. But because the simian virus, known as SIVcpz, was identified in chimpanzees in captivity, researchers could not be sure that the same simian virus existed among these apes in the wild.

It does, according to a report Thursday by a team of American, European and Cameroon scientists in the journal Science. They found it by testing hundreds of chimpanzee droppings collected in Cameroon. The genetic and immunologic tests were developed in stages over the last seven years to help trace the evolution of HIV and solve the mysterious origins of AIDS, said Dr. Beatrice H. Hahn, a virologist at the University of Alabama in Birmingham who headed the international team that conducted the study. The new findings, she said in a telephone interview, do not explain the entire chain of events that led from the first human HIV infection to the infection of 65 million people around the world.

But, Hahn reported, the findings show "for the first time a clear picture of the origin of HIV-1 and the seeds of the AIDS pandemic." Studies estimate that the human AIDS virus jumped species between 50 and 75 years ago. But no one knows who the first infected person was or how that person acquired HIV. Hahn said her team theorizes that HIV was first transmitted locally somewhere in west central Africa.

Because the subspecies of chimpanzees, Pan troglodytes troglodytes, in which the simian virus had been found in captivity, lives in the wild in Cameroon, Gabon and Republic of Congo, the first infection could have been in any of those areas. Hahn's team found that the chimpanzee communities with a high prevalence of infected members were located south of the Sangha River, which flows into the Congo River and on to Kinshasa. That led Hahn's team to the theory that some infected person carried HIV from a remote area of Africa to Kinshasa and then it was transmitted elsewhere.

A Changed Man...Malcom X

Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you're a man, you take it." -Malcom X

The true story of Malcom X irrespective of what one thinks about him was his ability to change and stand up even unto death to pursue justice.

One can only imagine the anger and frustration,he had to go through.

I admire Malcolm X not for what the media and t-shirts try to portray him, but for the man he became.

Below is a piece into Malcom X change
from a fundemtalist toa moderate Muslim.

Maybe as we fight Islamofacism his life can tell us
a little bit about the struggle from fundemtalist Islam
to a more tolerant Islam.

On May 21, 1964, he returned to the United States as a traditional Sunni Muslim (and with a new name — El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz).

When Malcolm returned to the United States, he gave a speech about his visit. This time he gave a much larger meaning and message than before. The speech was not only for the Muslims, instead it was for the whole nation and for all races. He said,

"Human rights are something you were born with. Human rights are your God-given rights. Human rights are the rights that are recognized by all nations of this earth."

"In the past, yes, I have made sweeping indictments of all white people. I will never be guilty of that again as I know now that some white people are truly sincere, that some truly are capable of being brotherly toward a black man. The true Islam has shown me that a blanket indictment of all white people is as wrong as when whites make blanket indictments against blacks."

"Since I learned the truth in Mecca my dearest friends have come to include all kinds some Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, agnostics, and even atheists! I have friends who are called capitalists, socialists, and communists! Some of my friends are moderates, conservatives, extremists some are even Uncle Toms! My friends today are black, brown, red, yellow, and white!"

Along with A. Peter Bailey and others, El-Shabazz then founded the U. S. branch of the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Patterned after the Organization of African Unity (OAU), Africa's continental organization, which was established at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in May 1963, the OAAU resolved to establish a non-religious and non-sectarian program for human rights. The OAAU included all people of African ancestry in the Western Hemisphere, as well as those on the African continent.

Memorial Day

The cost of liberty is less than the cost of repression.
--WEB Dubois

Hip Hop Republicans.com would like to extend a
happy Memorial Day;
to all who read our blog!
Let us never forget the fight for freedom
in Iraq, we must stay and finish the misson.

George S. Patton said, "War is Hell." He was right. War is Hell. But
war is also something else... although war is best understood by those
who served in war, war has also been served very well and sacrificed,
always with enormous pain, by those who didn't serve in war. Americans
who served to support those of us who were 'Over There' are as much a
part of our wartime memory because they worked to provide us the
motivation and materiel we needed to get the job done that needed
doing. No matter our politics, our religion, our race or color... on
Memorial Day we Americans become one.

Memorial Day is our one day in three hundred and sixty-five that we
take a twenty-four hour moment out of our daily and routine lives to
think about every individual American... going back to 1492... who
gave his or her life so that you and I would be here today enjoying
the freedom we have to live as men and women pursuing our daily wants.
I suppose that is why I enlisted to serve. I suppose that's why some
of you did the same.

That is why it is so very, very important that on each Memorial Day we
remember the pals who didn't make it home. As survivors of war we live
for the men and women left behind. That is why we don't have time for
hate. We don't have time for alcohol and drugs. We don't have time for
divisiveness. We only have time to make sure that every American boy
or girl who may one day be called upon to help free someone else... or
keep us free... gets all the help we can give them through our unity
and collective support.

When we fight for veterans benefits we fight to make sure that our
veterans our healthy so that they can preserve the memory of the kids
left behind on battlefields our kids aren't taught about. When we
fight to make sure every American veteran can openly speak his or her
mind without censureship we ensure that the democracy our brothers and
sisters died for is a continuing war that will, as all American wars
have done, make Democracy the only option of final resort. When we
fight for the equality of one veteran we fight for the equality of all
veterans who need, deserve and have earned the highest respect and
dignity of any living person in America. No President, no Senator, no
doctor, no farmer, no one has done more for America and international
freedom than the single, dog-faced American soldier, sailor, Marine or
airperson who served for pennies a day at supreme risk of limb or
life.

Yes, there are a lot of Americans who enjoy Memorial Day as a great
day off. But for those of us who served in America's longest war...
and those of you who served in other wars, or served in uniform to
support us overseas... Memorial Day is Every Day.

My greatest wish on every Memorial Day is that our wonderful country,
The United States of America, one day becomes Memorialized as the
oldest way of life in human history. I suppose that means we have a
long way to go if we want to beat the ancient Romans, Greeks and those
other guys who lasted long only because they never faced the kinds of
tremendous challenges the kids of America had to face in battle. But,
as we used to say in 'Nam... "No big deal... Can do!"

To you and yours, and to all... hats off to every American who
served... and to you guys and gals Up There who gave your life so that
future generations of Americans could live in Freedom... Freedom is a
wonderful thing. May we always raise freedom loving children for you
who couldn't.

Thanks for your Memories,
Always,
Phill

Leaders to Discuss Booker T. Washington's Legacy

Scholars and Community Leaders to Discuss Booker T. Washington's Legacy and the Future of the African American Community

CHICAGO, May 25 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and amid growing controversy over immigration issues, black scholars and community leaders are gathering in Chicago to discuss the legacy of Booker T. Washington, who advocated for education, entrepreneurship, and economic self- reliance.

The event is a celebration of Booker T. Washington's 150th birthday and includes a series of dinner events beginning on Sunday, June 4 and two days of public panel discussions beginning Monday, June 5. The symposium is the only event of its kind in the nation.

"It's time for a change in the black community," said Lee Walker, president of The New Coalition for Economic and Social Change, the principal sponsor of the symposium. "For too long we've been focused on assigning blame while our community decays from the inside out." Walker believes, as Washington did, that African Americans must take their future into their own hands by embracing a new set of values.

"Until we have a vibrant economic culture in the inner cities, there will be no change," Walker continued, "and a vibrant economic culture starts with education, self-reliance, and personal responsibility."

One of the symposium participants, Professor Carol Swain of Vanderbilt University, noted, "we would have fewer problems in black communities if more people knew about and internalized the ideals and values of Booker T. Washington." If he were here today, Swain said, he would "urge people to cast down their bucket where they are (and) black leaders to take responsible positions on immigration reform and extension of section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, instead of the self-serving positions most embrace."

On May 20, in a commentary published by the Chicago Sun-Times, Mark Bauerlein of Emory University, another scholar participating in the symposium, quoted Washington as saying, "The great human law that in the end recognizes and rewards merit is everlasting and universal." Bauerlein himself observed, "the United States is closer to abiding by that law than ever before ... (and) we should pass along that faith to those who most need it."

Other notable participants in the symposium are: Dr. Peter Ascoli, grandson of Julius Rosenwald, who was a key financial supporter of Washington's work; Margaret Washington Clifford, the oldest living direct descendent of Booker T. Washington; Glenn C. Loury of Brown University; Steve Mariotti, founder and president of the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship; and William (Bill) Winston, graduate of Tuskegee Institute and pastor of Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park.

Mary McLeod Bethune Educator and Republican

Mary McLeod Bethune Educator and Black Republican

Mary McLeod Bethune was an educator, presidential advisor, civil rights advocate, and one of America's most influential African American leaders. As former slaves, Bethune's parents were determined that she accept an offer from a Quaker woman to attend school when few educational opportunities were available to African Americans.

Bethune founded a school for African-American girls in Daytona, Florida, which in 1923 became the co-educational Bethune-Cookman College. As college president until 1942, her efforts gained tremendous recognition. Bethune became a national leader and united all major black women's organizations across the nation into one powerful group, the National Council of Negro Women. As its president for 14 years, Bethune led campaigns against segregation and discrimination. Presidents Coolidge, Hoover, Roosevelt and Truman sought her advice on issues concerning black Americans, and Franklin Roosevelt appointed her director of the Division of Negro Affairs of the National Youth Administration. She was the first black woman to ever head a federal agency

Marcus Skelton for City Counsil

Our very own contributor Marcus Skelton will be running for office.
Marcus is one of a growing number of young African-Americans leaving the party of their parents and grandparents in favor of the GOP -- or choosing not to have a political affiliation at all.

According to the Boston Globe a Gallup Poll of minorities' political opinions indicated that black voters overwhelmingly favor the Democratic Party, and the percentage of African-Americans who consider themselves Republicans lingers at about 9 percent. However, according to the poll, of those blacks who vote GOP, most are under age 50 -- a generational shift that could be an opportunity for Republicans and a headache for Democrats.

While older black voters still have strong attachments to the Democratic party, political specialists say, younger African-Americans are less likely to be bound by tradition: They grew up in an integrated society, they don't have personal memories of the civil rights movement, and they are more focused on entrepreneurship and opportunity, two of the GOP's selling points.

''The question people are going to have is, who wants to build on the civil right movement's success -- closing the wealth gap, closing the health gap, offering people real access to opportunity?"

HipHopRepublicans.com wishes him well in his run for DC Counsil.

Why Run for Council Member At-Large……….?

My decision to run for City Council is based on my strong commitment to community involvement and my belief that together we can make better decisions beneficial to the future for the District of Columbia. We have the opportunity to stop run-away taxing and irresponsible spending by electing Marcus Skelton for D.C. Council Member At-Large.

Because public education, public safety, and job growth are three hotly debated issues in our community. I am committed to meeting as many of you as possible and learning how you feel about these and other issues that affect the city because there are multiple solutions to every problem. I also believe that all citizens agree on a few principles.

Bi-partisan government is beneficial to the future of the district because monopolies tend to lead to corruption.

Strong values and community involvement keep our streets and children safe.
The District of Columbia has a responsibility to prepare its youth to compete in today’s global economy.

More businesses mean more jobs.

Citizens need to keep more of what they earn to keep up with the rising cost of living.

American Idol Or Minstrel?

Idol Or Minstrel?

Sherrilyn Ifill over at BlackProf.com discusses Taylor Hicks, who is one of tonight's finalists in the "American Idol" series finale. The liberal professor argues that having successfully purged all blacks from the final three weeks of the competition - unprecedented in the show's brief history - fans of American Idol can sit back tonight and possibly watch a white minstrel performer walk away with the title:

"But this injustice is nothing compared to the atrocity of giving the Idol win to Taylor Hicks. From his first audition, Travis was a lounge act, 'an impersonator.' It was an old, but cute gimmick – white guy with a big voice impersonates Ray Charles, complete with twitchy body movements. This was not blue-eyed soul – talented white performers engaging powerfully and compellingly with black soul music. This was minstrelry. Simon laughed at Taylor’s audition, but the guy had a voice and seemed so kooky I’m sure the judges thought he’d be good for some on-air and behind-the-scenes hijinks that would boost ratings. So they sent him to Hollywood.

That Taylor appears a little long in the tooth because of premature gray hair, and is the kind of goofy doofus we all recognize from high school, would normally have doomed his chances. But Taylor has a voice. What he doesn’t have is an iota of honest connection with anything he’s singing. He’s impersonating all the time – mostly Ray Charles, but sometimes Otis Redding, sometimes Joe Cocker. There’s nothing about this guy that suggests he 'gets' what he’s singing. And this may sound cruel, but anybody who's watched this guy scream 'Soul Patrol, Soul Patrol!' (the name he’s given his fans) after a performance, and hasn’t thought that something’s not quite right with this boy, is kidding themselves."

Below is Taylor's Final Performance.....Despite what this moonbat said

Taylor Hicks is the Sould Perol!!!!

Bordering On Fraud, Part III

THOMAS SOWELL COMMENTARY

Some people are worried that amnesty will give illegal immigrants the same rights that American citizens have. The conservative Republican economist argues that in reality, it will give illegals more rights: "Since most of the illegals are Mexican, that makes them a minority.

Under affirmative action, combined with amnesty, they would have preferences in jobs and other benefits. Those who set up their own businesses would be entitled to preferences in getting government contracts. Their children would be able to get into college ahead of the children of American citizens with better academic qualifications.

Illegals who graduate from a high school in California can already attend the University of California, paying lower tuition that an American citizen from neighboring Oregon. Under the supposedly 'tough' immigration bill in the U.S. Senate, illegals don't have to pay all the back taxes they owe. An American citizen gets no such break from the government and can end up in federal prison, like Al Capone.

If an American citizen gets stopped by the police for a traffic violation and the cops discover that he is wanted for some other violation of the law, they can arrest him for whatever else he has done. But if an illegal alien gets stopped for going through a red light and the police discovers that he is in the country illegally, in many communities the cop is forbidden to arrest him for that -- or even to report him to the feds. If an American citizen forges a Social Security card in order to get a job, he can be arrested. Under a provision recently passed by the Senate, illegal aliens who forged Social Security cards not only get a pass, they get to collect Social Security benefits.

The great majority of Senators who voted for that provision were Democrats, and they prevailed because they were joined by a small minority of Republicans, led by -- surprise! -- Senator John McCain."He continues: "What the immigration bill in the Senate has become is just another attempt to pander to another special interest, in disregard of how that affects the country as a whole. Much is made of the fact that there are supposedly 12 million illegals in the country already. The last time illegal aliens were given amnesty, back in 1986, that led to even more illegal aliens coming in afterwards. Do we want 20 million or 30 million more illegal aliens in the future?

Do we want to change the very composition of the American population, and with it the values of the country? There was a time when immigrants came here to become Americans. But there are powerful pressure groups in this country, extending far beyond the immigrant community, doing their best to keep foreigners foreign and force Americans to accommodate their foreign language and culture in the name of 'multiculturalism.' We have seen what havoc such notions and practices have created after mass immigration under 'guest worker' programs in Europe, especially after the Muslim riots in France. Do we want that in the United States?"

What Happens When "Daddy" Means Government?

Great Article!

What Happens When "Daddy" Means Government?

Asks Duane Brayboy, a black conservative blogger, in response to statistics about the growing prison population in America and its links to single-parent upbringing. He wonders how much more should we expect from the government when the lives of many young men and women are bred for their care?:

"Not too many years ago we lived in a time where it was the norm to have a plan for the children we birthed into this world. Pregnancy that takes place outside the shelter of marriage is the creation of a child whose fate has oftentimes been left up to chance.
Now that 'chance' has led many of these kids to the judicial system in astronomical numbers, we make the pitiful attempt to shrug our contribution to this problem to the lap of 'big daddy' government. If 'big daddy' government becomes in our estimation 'too rough' with our kids, we call injustice. If 'big daddy' government does little or nothing to help these kids, we still see it as racism and intentional neglect of
OUR kids (an accusation that should be made against the immature men that helped create these kids in the first place).

When 'big daddy' government says that he needs more money by way of tax increases, we say that he is being unfair. 'More government-funded ‘daddy time’' we demand , not realizing that government 'daddy time' really means being warehoused in a prison cell. Government has NEVER been good at raising children."

Democrat Mayor Defrauds Jerry Falwell??

by Jim Kouri, CPP

Mayor Carl Hutcherson of Lynchburg, Virginia, was convicted of defrauding two Social Security disability recipients, defrauding evangelist Jerry Falwell's charitable organization, making false statements, and obstructing a federal investigation by providing false information to a federal Grand Jury.

“The evidence showed beyond a reasonable doubt that Carl Hutcherson was taking advantage of citizens in our community that he had sworn to help and protect. In addition, Mr. Hutcherson was taking from a [charity organization] in order to try to deal with his own financial difficulties,” said United States Attorney John Brownlee.

Hutcherson was convicted after a relatively brief five day jury trial in United States District Court in Roanoke.

Mayor Hutcherson, a Democrat, was well-regarded by the African-American community. He once hosted an all-day conference for African-American businesses, featuring workshops and speakers, and classes at Lynchburg College.

According to evidence presented in court, Hutcherson had financial difficulties, and owed more than $100,000 to the Internal Revenue Service, and had failed to maintain balances in banking accounts that resulted in more than $22,000 in bank overdraft fees.

In response to his financial problems, Hutcherson solicited a donation from Rev. Jerry Falwell's Falwell Ministries to Hutcherson’s own charity, the Trinity New Life Community Development Corporation.

The evidence showed that a Falwell donation of $32,500.00 was made to Trinity New Life Community Development Corporation, where Hutcherson was the Chairperson, Director and Registered Agent.

It is established in the Articles of Incorporation of Trinity New Life Community Development Corporation that were presented in court that “[n]o part of the property or net earning of the Corporation shall inure to the benefit of or to be distributable to the Corporation’s directors, officers, or any private persons.”

However, the evidence showed that Hutcherson almost immediately took all but $1,000 from the charity's account and put it in his own personal accounts. Hutcherson later used this money to pay a portion of his delinquent federal taxes.

The evidence also showed that Hutcherson was the representative payee for two social security disability recipients. Hutcherson took the social security money from the victims’ accounts and used it to purchase a stereo for himself, a mattress for another person, and to pay for his own cable bill. The evidence also showed that Hutcherson would write checks from the victims’ accounts to himself.

When Hutcherson was confronted with the evidence that he had stolen money from his charity, he provided false meeting minutes and a false list of a board of directors to FBI investigators.

Hutcherson is facing a 20-year prison sentence for the multible counts on which he was convicted.

Jim Kouri, CPP is currently fifth vice-president of the National Association of Chiefs of Police and he's a staff writer for the New Media Alliance (thenma.org).

Bill Cosby: Blacks Should Fix Own Communities

Comedian Bill Cosby told a forum on family and education Tuesday night that African Americans should be proactive and fix their own communities.

"I have a problem with people sitting there and saying God and Jesus will find a way," Cosby said.

He also said he had a problem "with churches who allow drug dealers to set up two blocks away." The audience cheered several times during Cosby's remarks.

The star of the hit situation comedy "The Cosby Show" was at the University of the District of Columbia as part of his nationwide tour, "A Call Out with Cosby," which is designed to spark debate about family and educational issues among black communities.

Cosby joined a panel of local agency officials and other experts and took questions from the audience during two sessions, one to help foster parents and grandparents who are rearing children and the other geared toward the general public.

Cosby wasn't as biting as he was in Washington in May 2004, when he made headlines telling the NAACP Legal Defense Fund that blacks spoke poor English and spent money frivolously. But he touched on similar themes during Tuesday's panel and maintained that African Americans shouldn't blame their problems on others.

Washington Mayor Anthony Williams presented the comedian with a ceremonial proclamation naming May 16 as "Bill Cosby Day" in recognition of the work Cosby has done to support African-American communities.

© 2006 Associated Press.

I agree with Bill Cosby's sentiment. I think that we could get alot more accomplished in our community if we focused on checking ourselves and not blaming "the system" for our predicament. Of course blaming "the system" is much more fashionable and absolves the individual of all responsiblity. IMO that is why people got so upset with Cosby. He held the mirror up and forced them to see how their own actions have gotten them into their current predicament.

Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth"

Al Gore is definitely a hypocrite. He wasted 439,000 lbs of oil travelling to a global warming summit when he could have just linked via a network.

Have we not learned enough from the do as I say, not as I do liberals?
The 65,600 gallons he wasted is enough for all the cars in my family for 100 years.

Bush.."We Will Support Isreal" ...PERIOD!!!

On Israel and Hamas:

"No country can be expected to make peace with those who deny its right to exist, and who use terror to attack its population," Bush said.......... Story

Several reasons we support them, Israel is the America of the Middle-east. They are surrounded by scumbag countries that just want to kill them but when they try they get their ass handed to them.

Also we have felt responsible for Israel after what happened to the Jews during WWII. It formed an everlasting bond between the group and America. You can expect Nazi like treatment towards them if they were ever taken over.

That being said an attack on Israel is an attack on America. Come on, someone give us a reason to fight a total war. No rules, just kill everything in site and wash your hands when it is done.

I ain't putting no money in the White Man's Bank!!

Dollar Bill keeps it real!

I keeps my money on ice baby, that's how we roll in Louisiana!

I keeps it real! You never know when you'll need a quick 90k, playa! Someone be like, "Dolla' Bill, I need 90k.

" I'll be like, "Don't even sweat it baby, I gots dat in my freezer, lemme grab my blow dryer and we'll get dis money son."

Pelosi to Jefferson: Resign

This is a letter from Nancy Pelosi asking for Congressman Jefferson to resign!

She is trying to create the very false image of Democrats having the moral high ground, but like most Democrat actions this to shall fail.

The DNC is trying to spin this into an abuse of executive powers case, but its not working.

They are terrified that this scandal and maybe others
may discount there claim's of reform.
The congressman will not resign and black leftist groups will
be on the march any day now!

It is amazing that the Democrats were never this quick with
the another William Jefferson.

This is the 150th anniversary of the RNC

On February 23, Republicans across the country celebrated – or should have celebrated – the 150th anniversary of the Republican National Committee, which was established on that day back in 1856.

Two years before, anti-slavery activists had established the Grand Old Party to stop the pro- slavery agenda of the Democratic Party. On March 20, 1854, several dozen men and women in Ripon, Wisconsin called for a new political party, to be called the Republican Party. A few months later, on July 6, a convention of 10,000 anti-slavery activists at Jackson, Michigan organized the first state Republican Party. Among the leaders of that meeting was a former mayor of Detroit, Zachariah Chandler, who had protected slaves escaping north in the underground railroad. Chandler would later serve in the Senate and as chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Any muffler shop in America would celebrate its 10th anniversary, but two years ago, the Republican Party neglected to celebrate its 150th anniversary. Just think of the magnificent party-building and fund- raising and outreach opportunities that just slipped away! How can Republican leaders expect voters to place confidence in them when they lack confidence in their own heritage?

After being founded at the state level, Republicans came together for the first time as a national party at an organizational meeting in Pittsburgh on February 22, 1856. The next day, the delegates established the Republican National Committee and elected New York's national committeeman, Edwin Morgan, to be the first chairman of the RNC. Morgan, who had been Governor, would later serve in the Senate, where he helped pass several major civil rights laws.

The Republican Party should take great pride in its heritage of civil rights achievement. Frederick Douglass had a favorite saying: "The Republican Party is the ship; all else is the sea." The 13th Amendment banning slavery, the 14th Amendment guaranteeing equal protection of the laws, and the 15th Amendment according black Americans the right to vote – all three were accomplished by the Republican Party despite fierce opposition from the Democrats. And in the words of Mary Terrell, a black Republican who co-founded the NAACP: "Every right that has been bestowed upon blacks was initiated by the Republican Party."

The RNC's first mission was to organize the first Republican National Convention, held in Philadelphia on June 17, 1856. The first presidential nominee, a Georgia-born military hero and former Senator from California, John C. Fremont, lost the election to the pro-slavery Democrat, James Buchanan. In 1860, Republicans would win with their second presidential nominee, Abraham Lincoln.

The Great Emancipator had summed up our Party's differences with the Democrats: "The Republican Party, on the contrary [to the Democrats], holds that this government was instituted to secure the blessings of freedom, and that slavery is an unqualified evil... [Republicans] will oppose in all its length and breadth the modern Democratic idea that slavery is as good as freedom."

The author of the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision, Chief Justice Earl Warren, had been a Republican Governor of California and the party's 1948 vice presidential nominee. Three years later, Republican President Dwight Eisenhower, who had appointed Warren to the Supreme Court, sent federal troops to Little Rock, Arkansas to overcome opposition by the Democratic Governor to a court order desegregating the public schools. It was a former chairman of the Republican National Committee who, as Eisenhower's attorney general, wrote the 1957 Civil Rights Act. Republican lawmakers supported the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act much more than did the Democrats.

The Republican Party should stop throwing away political capital, because the more we Republicans know about the history of our party, the more the Democrats will worry about the future of theirs.

Michael Zak is a popular speaker to Republican organizations around the country, showing office- holders, candidates, and activists how they would benefit tremendously from knowing and appreciating our Party's heritage of civil rights achievement. His book, Back to Basics for the Republican Party, is the acclaimed history of the GOP from the civil rights perspective.

Michael Zak's book proves that despite the rhetoric from the far left, the Republican Party has nothing to be ashamed of in its history regarding civil rights. In fact, Republicans have a great deal to be proud of, as they were on the forefront of all of America's great civil rights triumphs, with the Democrats only being pulled along by public opinion. Zak shows that this history continues to this day, with Republicans leading the charge for TRUE civil rights (economic opportunity, personal responsibility, and the like).

A definite MUST READ for Republicans, free thinking Democrats, and those who believe the hype that the Republican Party has a poor civil rights record. Women and minorities who read this book, beware! Knowing the truth might send you back home to the Republican Party!

Antiwar Myths about Iraq, Debunked

Great article from the Wall Street Journal on leftist, moonbat lies on the war.
For years the media has allowed the left to get away with its half truths.
The facts that Peter Wehener has presented in this article are factual,
and on point.

-BY PETER WEHNER

Iraqis can participate in three historic elections, pass the most liberal constitution in the Arab world, and form a unity government despite terrorist attacks and provocations. Yet for some critics of the president, these are minor matters.

Like swallows to Capistrano, they keep returning to the same allegations--the president misled the country in order to justify the Iraq war; his administration pressured intelligence agencies to bias their judgments; Saddam Hussein turned out to be no threat since he didn't possess weapons of mass destruction; and helping democracy take root in the Middle East was a postwar rationalization. The problem with these charges is that they are false and can be shown to be so--and yet people continue to believe, and spread, them. Let me examine each in turn:

Madonna's Stupidity

Madonna has shown no signs of growing old gracefully as she kicks off her world tour in typically raunchy and controversial style.

The 47-year-old incurred the wrath of church leaders by hanging from a giant cross wearing a crown of thorns.

She also rode provocatively on a horse's saddle suspended in the air, clad in a leather costume that would embarrass a woman half her age.

She mocked Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George Bush, interchanging their images with those of Adolf Hitler, Osama bin Laden and Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe.

During the show, giant images of poverty-stricken children were also projected on screens behind her.

The Los Angeles show was the opening night of Mrs Richie's Confessions tour. She started nearly an hour late and was lowered onto stage in a giant mirrored ball.

But the crowd loved it as they were entertained for two hours with songs from her new album, Confessions on a Dancefloor, as well as classics such as Material Girl and Like a Virgin

The tour comes to the UK in July, opening in Cardiff.

Msulims Extremist Threaten to Burn down Liquor Store

EAST ST. LOUIS -- Several members of Muhammad's Mosque No. 28B protested Saturday outside an East St. Louis liquor store they said is too close to their place of worship.

"The store next door to us was given a liquor license by the city to open a liquor business," Minister Ralph Muhammad said. "The problem with this is the fact that it is within 100 feet of the mosque. That's a violation of the ordinance. No way can they operate a liquor business that close to a place of worship." The mosque brothers are giving store owner Saber Barta 30 days before they take legal action, said Clarence Muhammad, captain of the mosque. The store, Express Market, is located at 2204 State St. and has been open about a year. "We do expect them in 30 days to seek other means of earning a living in our community or we'll seek legal action," he said. "We're here to make sure our rights are not infringed or stepped on."

Barta, 22, said he's been harassed almost daily by the Muslim brothers who attend the mosque, and he wants it to stop. "Every since we opened, the Muslim brothers have been coming in here harassing us, threatening to burn down the store," he added. "They came in here today, about 15 of them in suits. They pushed the customers to the side and blocked all of the entrances.

They were screaming, harassing and threatening us. They said we have to close in 30 days or they will close it themselves or burn it down." Clarence Muhammad said no brothers from the mosque have threatened or harassed Barta or anyone connected with the store.

Sounds like a case of tresspassing and terroristic threats. Time for the law to step in or Mr. Barta needs to get a Mossberg or an Ak.

East St. Louis needs any business it can get. Think a smaller New Orleans without Bourbon Street, having a 95% instead of 60% black population. They have the highest per capita homicide rate in the nation.

What does the Koran have to say?

The Quraan Prohibits Alcohol

Regarding Alcohol - The Holy Quraan states: "They ask Thee concerning Wine and Gambling, Say: In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit." (Surah Al-Baqarah:219)

The Arabic word used in this text is Khamr which is applied to all intoxicating liquor or drug.

The Quraan further states in Surah Al-Maaidah verse 90: "O Ye who believe! Intoxicants and Gambling, Sacrificing to Stones, and (divination by) Arrows, are an abomination, of Satan's handiwork; Keep away from such, that Ye may prosper."

I guess its okay to sale it to the unbelivers we are going to die anyway!

Number of homeless declining in U.S.

DENVER -- Three years after the start of the most aggressive nationwide strategy in a generation to solve homelessness, there is evidence that it may be working: The number of street people in cities across the United States has plummeted for the first time since the 1980s.
The drop-off reflected in street counts of the homeless taken over the past year has ranged from 30 percent in Miami and 28 percent in Dallas to 20 percent in Portland, Ore., and 13 percent in New York. In all, 30 jurisdictions reported declines in their homeless populations.

The figures emerged as more than 250 civic and social program leaders -- all of whom are behind 10-year plans to end chronic homelessness across the nation -- gathered in Denver earlier this month to compare notes for the first time since the Bush administration began pushing for creation of the plans in 2003.

The homeless counts, taken in one-day tallies in shelters and streets at varying dates across the country, are "not an aberration," said Philip Mangano, executive director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness and President Bush's point man on the issue. "They are part of a national trend."

The goal of the 10-year plans is to put the most dysfunctional homeless people in the country -- that 10 percent to 20 percent who are continually on the street with addiction or mental problems -- quickly into permanent "supportive" housing with counseling services to help them get healthy. Those chronic cases are a tremendous financial burden on their communities in hospital, jail and other services -- hundreds of thousands of dollars apiece annually in some instances.

The savings from stabilizing these homeless people in more cost-effective supportive housing can be used to extend services to all the homeless, say Mr. Mangano and other proponents of the plans.

The last time there was such a widespread national strategy to address homelessness was in the mid-1980s, when cities from San Francisco to New York built shelters and systems to route people into health services so they eventually could move into residences. That method has been widely discredited since the late 1990s as social scientists determined that a $12,000-a-year supportive housing unit is more cost-effective than a $35,000-a-year shelter bed.

While lauding the 10-year planning concept, however, some among the mayors, governors, welfare directors and social agency workers who came to discuss their efforts cautiously complained that focusing on the more hard-core people is neglecting the plight of homeless families. In some communities, such as New York or Contra Costa County, Calif., families constitute at least half of the homeless population.

Mr. Mangano touted the Bush administration's allocation of more than $4 billion this year in funds targeted for the homeless -- a 7 percent increase over last year -- but the social-program directors gathered in Denver said they feared that cuts in other anti-poverty health and housing programs might leave them running in place.

University of Pennsylvania professor Dennis Culhane, a leading researcher on the benefits of supportive housing, said he could understand the concerns, but concentrating efforts on the chronic cases will pay off for everyone in the end, he said.

State Condoleezza Rice..''This is what democracy is all about''

"Without great public servants, without people who have done this work for so many years and continue to do it, we wouldn't have freedoms that we have in the United States."

-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice:

'This is what democracy is all about'

Q&A with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice

On the eve of her Commencement address at Boston College, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice sat down with The Boston College Chronicle and The Heights to discuss her views of Iran, North Korea, Catholic education and free speech.

Question: You could pick any place to give a commencement address. Why Boston College?

Rice: I've always had a lot of respect for Boston College. It's a fine institution of learning. It helped that the undersecretary for political affairs [R. Nicholas Burns '78] is a graduate. When he brought the proposal to me I thought I'd love to give a commencement address at Boston College. It's a place that I think has a reputation of being rigorous in its education but also reaching out to kids who perhaps wouldn't otherwise have had an opportunity. A lot of first-generation college graduates. It's a very special place in that way. I also have had my experiences with Catholic education and I'm rather fond of Catholic education. I think it tends to have a kind of rigor and discipline that is missing in a lot of institutions.

Question: You mentioned a Catholic education. You went to Notre Dame and Stanford. What's been the difference?

Rice: I went to Catholic high school, actually. St. Mary's Academy in Denver. Sisters of Loretta in Denver. But I think our religious schools in America are quite special because they uphold their traditions, their religious tradition, but they do it in a context that still allows freedom of thought and freedom of expression and it's very interesting that some of our strongest academic institutions are also religious institutions. We talk so much in the United States about separation of church and state but of course what that meant was that there wouldn't be any state religion and people would be free to choose to be religious or not. But religion of course plays an extremely important riole in the US and our institutions - our educational institutions - have married it quite well.

Question: I'm going to switch gears and ask you a couple questions about current events and foreign policy. The first one is would you be ready to offer any U.S. security guarantee as part of a final agreement with Iran over its nuclear program?

Rice: First let me just set the record straight: We haven't been asked. I know there have some stories that the Europeans want us to give security guarantees. I've sat with my counterparts many times and nobody has said we ought to give security assurances to Iran. And it is a bit strange to talk about security assurances when you think about an Iran - quite apart from the nuclear issue - still has as state doctrine believes in the destruction of Israel, that as state doctrine is active in terrorist operations in the Middle East, supporting Hezbollah in Lebanon, that is engaged in helping to foment violence in the south of Iraq, including, we believe, supporting technology that may be contributing to some of the deadliest violence against our forces. This is a question of Iranian behavior and from time to time people try to set this up as a U.S.-Iranian issue but Iran's problem is not with the United States. Iran's problem is with the international community. It's been unwilling to accept a course to a civil nuclear program that is acceptable to the international community, given the proliferation risk of Iran using that civil nuclear program to build a nuclear weapon. So we need to get the focus back on Iran's problem with the international system, not the U.S.-Iranian dimension.

Question: Obviously BC is a Jesuit school where there is a lot of talk about social justice. A couple of the big issues that have been talked about on campus are Darfur and child soldiers in Uganda. What can be done about those issues?

Rice: I'm glad you asked. Very often people think only about the administration's policies in the War on Terror. But let me talk about a few other things that have been very important to this president -- Darfur. When the president first came to office he wanted to do something about Sudan and he asked former Sen. Jack Danforth to become an envoy and we got a comprehensive peace agreement that settled the decades-old civil war between the North and the South, where the southern Christians had been bombed by the North, where there had been millions of people killed in that civil war and the United States brokered that arrangement. Before we could completely, however, put that into place, Darfur broke out, and the United States has been in the lead. It is the United States that has given, to date, about 89 percent of the food aid that has gone into Darfur is American food assistance through the World Food Program. It has been the United States that has been pushing for a robust UN security force to protect the people of Darfur and pushing NATO to provide logistical support to that security force. And it is the United States ‚ in fact, Deputy Secretary of State Zoellick ‚ who went to push with AU leaders and others for a peace agreement between the rebels and Darfur, the Sudan government. So we've been very active in Darfur. What we need is more help from others in the international community, particularly states like China who have been reluctant to press the Sudanese government.

President Bush a number of years ago asked the American people to give $15 billion for five years to the fight against AIDS. It has literally saved the lives of thousands of Africans who would not have had treatment without it. He also was one of the founders with Kofi Annan of the Global AIDS Fund. So the United States is spending an enormous amount of resources to try to deal with the scourge of AIDS. The United States has been very active in the movement and trafficking of persons. Several years ago the president went to the United Nations and called on the world to stop modern slavery and we have been very active in working with countries, and when necessary, naming even some of our best friends as being unconcerned about the trafficking in women and the trafficking in children.

Finally, speaking of women, when you look at the conditions that women were living in, for instance, in Afghanistan, the liberation of Afghanistan is one of the great human rights victories for women. You go now to Afghanistan, women walk the streets, women are in the police force, in the army. Under the Taliban, they were being herded into stadiums and executed for allowing the sound of their feet to be heard on the ground. And just one final point: this president has been very concerned about poverty alleviation. Official development assistance in this administration has doubled in Latin America, tripled in Africa. It is up twice, two times in this president's administration. Why? Because we believe that assistance that is given to countries that are governing wisely, that are trying to deal with their people's condition, that America is a generous country and ought to be active. And that's why through assistance, through trade and definitely

Where the United States led that effort as well we've done so much to alleviate poverty. So that's another side of the administration policies that I think because there's so much going on with Iraq and Iran and the war on terror that sometimes people lose sight of.

Question: You mentioned Iraq and Iran, I was going to ask about North Korea. Would you be ready to link a peace treaty to any agreement with North Korea?

Rice: The six-party agreement that we signed in September envisions a North Korean strategic choice to give up its nuclear weapons verifiably and then work on a broad front on other issues, not just the nuclear issue, including ways to end the state of war that has existed on the Korean peninsula since the Armistice was signed in 1953. But it can't be taken out of context of the need for the North Koreans to make a strategic decision to give up their nuclear weapons - and by the way they're not even at the table at this point so it's all a moot point. But I think none of us would like anything better than to have North Korea make that strategic choice, begin the verifiable dismantlement of its weapons, see the ability of the international system to reach out to the North Korean people so that there can be greater openness and a spotlight on that society, and ultimately to see peace on the Korean peninsula.

Question: There have been some people who have voiced concerns about the invitation to bring you to speak. I don't know if you heard about Sen. McCain down in New York last week. Have you gotten used to these protests? How do you feel when they happen?

Rice: Well, first of all I was a university professor and a university provost and I'm no stranger to controversy on university campuses. It's a part of what makes university campuses what they are. People can speak their minds, they can stand on both side of issues, they can debate them. I'm very proud to have been asked by Boston College to come here. I'm very excited about giving the speech. I promise you it won't be long. I promise you that I remember that the one thing I don't remember about my commencement was what the speaker said. And so I think it's a great opportunity to be here.

But I've been asked this one when I've faced protests in various places in the world: this is what democracy is all about. People are able to give full voice to their views. The only issue is that they also have to let others give full voice to their views. That's the bargain in democracy: you get to say what you think but others get to say what they think, too. And there can't be a monopoly on only hearing one set of views. That's what would be anti-democratic: not to protest but to insist on a monopoly of your views. I also know that I am very proud to be associated with a president who believes that there is no place on Earth and that there are no people on Earth who should be denied that freedom. Because if you look at Kabul or Baghdad in 2000 or 2001, these were places where speaking your mind would get you killed immediately. No questions asked. And now, speaking your mind means being able to stand up and say whatever you think about Prime Minister Maliki or President Karzai, to organize yourself politically, to have your views heard.

One of my proudest moments, not out of personal pride but pride for this person, was during the debate of the Afghan constitution. There was a woman and it was described to me by people from our embassy who were there as a smallish woman, and this warlord was giving a speech. And this very small woman got up and she delivered a speech against him for his brutality against the Afghan people, and said that people like him should not expect to have any place in a future government in Afghanistan. Now that's unthinkable under the Taliban, unthinkable. And so as people protest policies in Iraq or Afghanistan that's just fine, but I hope that we would not forget that these were people who were living under the most brutal dictatorships of the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries, dictators ‚ particularly in Saddam Hussein's case ‚ had used chemical weapons against his own people, and against his neighbor, who had invaded his neighbors twice, who had filled mass graves with at least 300,000 people, and the world is better off without him.

Question: At what point does the immigration situation require a State Department response? What is diplomacy's role?

Rice: First of all, the immigration debate in this country I hope will follow the course that the president laid out the other night, which is a civil debate about what is a very difficult issue, but recognizing that we should be a country of laws, that we do have to defend our borders but we're also a country of immigrants and a country that wants to be humane to people who have lived among us, who have worked among us, who have roots in the United States and need to be treated with dignity, and if we can achieve that balance and be both a country as the president said that is welcoming and a country that is lawful, we'll continue the proud heritage of immigrants to America who contribute and contribute overwhelmingly to the success of this country. The wonderful thing about America is ultimately it doesn't matter if you're German-American or African-American or Mexican-American; you're American because you're committed to an idea. And in a world where people still hold on to ethnic differences from five or six or seven hundred years ago, America is the model that really needs to be understood and to provide a kind of touchstone for the idea of a multi-ethnic democracy. So this immigration debate is very important in our country and I hope we carry that civil tone. The State Department gets involved because of course it's an issue of international borders. I talk all the time with my Mexican and Canadian colleagues ‚ our two closest borders ‚ and I say to them I hope you'll begin your sentences with "America has a right to uphold its laws and defend its borders" and go on then to talk about the treatment of immigrants and I think they understand that. But it is very often a source of discussion when I meet with my colleagues from Mexico or from Canada. There's a lot at stake for everybody.

Question: Boston College has a proud tradition of graduates going into public service. If you're talking to students or seniors at BC, what is it important to study, what kinds of skills is it important to gain if they want to go into public service and especially foreign service?

Rice: First of all I think anything you study in college has really only one purpose and it's not actually to decide what you're going to do in the job market, it's to find what you're passionate about. It's to find what makes you want to get up in the morning and go and do that. And once you've found your passion and hopefully your passion and your talents will be in the same place, you're going to end up being successful at what you do. And when I swear in classes of the Foreign Service officers they come from the widest variety of backgrounds. They're people who studied engineering, they're people who studied languages, they're people who studied science... we have mid-career people who come in who've made a military career or a career as a schoolteacher and then they come into the foreign service.

You can do public service at any time in your life and from any training and platform. The only thing that I think you have to have is a realization, a willingness to want at some time in your life to give back. Because without great public servants, without people who have done this work for so many years and continue to do it, we wouldn't have freedoms that we have in the United States, and whatever you've chosen to do in life, you wouldn't have been able to pursue it without others who gave back. You're at a school at Boston College where people who teach you and mentor you do service and believe in service and believe in causes bigger than yourself. And that's all that I would ask of students, that at some time in your life, you serve a cause that's bigger than yourself. It's the most rewarding thing that you can do. And I know that Boston College also has a tradition of public service for students while they're in college - Stanford had a similar tradition - and I know that it's sometimes hard to find the time to tutor that kid or to go and work in a homeless shelter or whatever you choose to do, and you've got your studies and your sports and hopefully a social life, but I can assure you that anybody who does it finds that you get a new energy from it even if you have a little trouble juggling the schedule, that it's one of the most energizing things that you can do.

Question: Vice President Cheney recently accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of restricting the rights of Russia's citizens and using energy resources for blackamil. That signaled a shift in U.S. policy, and yet Russia experts have complained of a resurgence in the Kremlin's old totalitarian ways for several years. Why has the United States waited so long to challenge Russia on this point?

Rice: Well, in fact we have been challenging Moscow on these points for more than a year now and in some ways a couple of years. I'll give you a few examples. When the NGO Law came out we were very vocal that this NGO Law had the potential to restrict the important work of the non-governmental sector that is at the core of the democratization of Russia. We spent a lot of time on it and we talked about it publicly. I talked about the Russian use of energy as a weapon back when the Russians tried to withhold gas from Ukraine in what the Russians said was a commercial dispute and I remember saying that if it was a commercial dispute you would not have sent the president of Russia out to issue the ultimatum, you would have sent the president of Gazprom out to issue the ultimatum. So these are things we've been saying and talking about for some time. They perhaps got put together in the vice president's speech, but these have been issues with the Russians and we've been vocal about them.

Yet as the president said, nobody's going to give up on Russia. We know that it's not the Soviet Union. I studied the Soviet Union, I went to the Soviet Union as a graduate student I hate to tell you in 1979 when Leonid Brezhnev was the general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, if he still exists, which I guess he probably does, isn't somebody that you can name or that I can name today. That shows how far this country has come. It does have a growing middle class, it does have growing property rights. There are some protections for individual freedoms, but we have to worry that the kind of institutionalization of democracy that is so important - with a free press, with a judiciary that's independent, with a legislature that is a real legislature - that is what has not taken place and indeed where there have been some reversals in Russia. And so we have to speak the truth as we know it. It's also important for Russia not to intimidate its neighbors. The small states around Russia that used to be part of the Soviet Union are now independent and they have to be respected as such.

Finally, if Russia is to be a reliable energy supplier in the energy markets, which is extremely important these days, Russia has to behave in a way that its customers are to believe that these really will be matters of commerce and not matters of politics. So it was important to speak up on it, but we still have a good relationship with Russia. We work together on all kinds of issues and as I said we've come a long, long way from when there was a hammer and sickle above the Kremlin. •

John Murtha Slammed by Paratrooper

Today, Jack Murtha is being awarded the John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage Award. The folks over at CBS News apparently agree enthusiastically with Murtha’s cut-and-run position

Gary Gross of Let Freedom Ring found a great letter, written by a paratrooper serving in Iraq, which responds to Murtha that was published in the May 2006 issue of Military on page 21. http://www.letfreedomringblog.com/2006/05/20/murtha-must-go/

It’s quite a moving response written by a brave veteran of this war.

Eminem and the Death of Proof

Deshaun “Proof” Holton, rapper in hip-hop group D12 and close personal friend of Eminem, was shot to death early Tuesday morning in Detroit. He was only 32.

Now news in the rap world of someone getting shot is hardly novel but I felt a sincere loss when I heard this report.

It’s an understatement to say that Eminem and Proof were friends. There was a brotherhood and kinship there that solidified over many years. So to hear that Proof had died so suddenly meant that somewhere out there, a man lost a piece of his soul.

For as many people who hated and protested Eminem during the height of his career, I knew a lot of Christians who were carefully watching his spiritual walk behind the scenes and praying for him to come to Jesus. The most notable was the two-part musical message KJ-52 wrote to Eminem entitled “Dear Slim.” In that, KJ shared how he too grew up without a father and said that the only way to live above the pain was to live in Christ. It’s known that Eminem heard the songs but it is not known whether he ever replied.

Either way, anyone who has listened to Eminem’s music or watched his antics in the news knows that he’s clearly a troubled man. Through his music he’s talked about everything – from the emotional abuse he sustained growing up to his broken marriage. Now, for Eminem to lose someone who he considered to be family… I can imagine it’s like losing the only person who truly understood you. That can be incredibly lonely – even for a superstar.

I think as a music community we should continue to pray for Eminem. As Sara Groves says, perhaps God will “rewrite this tragedy” into something greater – perhaps something of eternal greatness.

Why Evangelicals support Israel

Jews & Evangelicals Together
Why some Christians are so pro-Israel.

An NRO Q&A National Review Online

David Brog is author of Standing with Israel: Why Christians Support the Jewish State. A former chief of staff to Pennsylvania Republican senator Arlen Specter, Brog explains that “the evangelical Christians who support Israel today are nothing less than the theological heirs of the righteous Gentiles who sought to save Jews from the Holocaust.”

Brog recently discussed the book with National Review Online editor Kathryn Lopez.

Kathryn Jean Lopez: Which Christians in the U.S. are most Zionist and why?

David Brog: The evangelicals. No contest. Their Zionism comes directly from their theology. But, as opposed to what most people think, this theology is driven by the biblical promises of the Book of Genesis, not the biblical prophecies of the Book of Revelations.

Lopez: Was there an event that made this alliance stronger? Has it always been under the radar?

Brog: Evangelical Christians largely shunned politics until the late 1970s, when Jerry Falwell created the Moral Majority and led them back onto the political playing field. Israel was among the priorities of the Christian Right from the start. In fact, when Jerry Falwell founded the Moral Majority he made support for Israel one of the group’s four organizing principles along with the issue of abortion, traditional marriage, and a strong U.S. defense.

While Israel was always important to evangelicals, a recent event did make Israel even more of a priority. On September 11, 2001, evangelicals recognized along with many other Americans that radical Islam was the greatest threat facing our country and that we were in a war with its proponents. And in this war, Israel is seen as an ally and as the first line of defense of Judeo-Christian civilization. Support for this embattled ally has moved to center stage.

Lopez: Evangelicals who support Israel really don't want to convert people?

Brog: Evangelicals who support Israel most certainly do want to convert people. Evangelicals who don’t support Israel also want to convert people. The mission of sharing the “good news” of Jesus Christ is central to being an evangelical. But it is important to note that this is not about converting just the Jews—Christians want to share their faith with Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and their Christian friends and neighbors who have yet to be born again.

The important question is this: Is evangelical support for Israel merely a tool in the effort to convert the Jews? Is this merely some scheme to soften the Jews up so that they can better sell Jesus to them? And the answer to this question is absolutely not.

If anything, the opposite it true. I and others who have worked with Christians in support of Israel all report that no one has ever tried to convert us. In fact, Christians who support Israel tend to know more Jews and to understand their sensitivities better than Christians who do not. Thus, they have learned that Jews find “Jesus talk” offensive, and they tend to leave it out of the dialogue.

Lopez: What is replacement theology and where did it go?

Brog: For most of Christian history, the dominant Christian theology towards the Jews was “replacement theology,” which held that when the Jews rejected Jesus as their messiah, God rejected the Jews as his chosen people. The Church replaced the Jews as the “Israel” to whom so much is promised in the Bible. Once the Jews were thus removed from God’s love, the door was opened to man’s hate. And this was a door through which generation after generation of Christians walked.

But ever since the Reformation, there have been some small groups of Protestants who have rejected replacement theology and who believe—as Jews do—that the word “Israel” in the Bible means the Jews. Under this reading, the Jews continue to be the beneficiaries of God’s love and promises, and the Bible becomes an exhortation to Zionism and philo-Semitism.

In early 20th-century America, the nascent fundamentalist movement embraced this minority view and rejected replacement theology. As this movement grew and spread throughout America, the number of Christians who adhered to this theology grew as well, to the point that it is the ascendant strain of American Christianity today. Thus fundamentalist/evangelical support for Israel is not a trend, fad, or public relations ploy — it is a bedrock religious belief.

It is also important to add that, after the Holocaust, the Roman Catholic Church and most mainline Protestant denominations recognized the danger of replacement theology and formally rejected it. But replacement theology under new names and guises is still out there, and it still does theological combat with the more Judeo-centric interpretation that drives the Christian Zionists.

Lopez: Beyond politics, what good stuff do Christian Zionists do for Israel?

Brog: They do lots of good stuff. For starters, Christians give millions of dollars to Israel and Jewish causes every year. These funds support a variety of missions, including:

The cost of transporting poor Jews from the former Soviet Union, Argentina and Ethiopia to live in Israel.
Supporting poor Jews who stay behind in these countries.
Supporting disadvantaged Jews and terror victims in Israel
Beyond giving money, Christians also volunteer their time. Christian Zionists can be found throughout the former Soviet Union, teaching Jews about the opportunities and assistance available to them in Israel. Many Christian volunteers also go to Israel, where they contribute to Israeli society by operating food banks, homeless shelters, and providing health and repair services to those in need.

Lopez: How widespread is a Jewish suspicion of Christian Zionists?

Brog: As widespread as falafel stands in Tel Aviv. Jews tend not to know very much about Christian theology or Christian history. As a result, they tend to lump all Christians together and hold them equally responsible for the anti-Semitic atrocities committed by Christians in the past. If more Jews understood the profound theological differences between evangelical Christians in America today and the Christians of Europe in prior centuries, I think they would be more open to an alliance.

Lopez: The ADL doesn't seem to get what is going on vis-à-vis Christian Zionists, does it?

Brog: Not lately. There was a period in the late 1990’s when Abraham Foxman, the ADL’s executive director, was saying very positive thing about Christian Zionists. He invited Ralph Reed to address an ADL dinner, and he even paid to reprint one of Reed’s pro-Israel articles in major newspapers. Yet lately, Foxman has been sounding like his old self on this issue. Late last year he claimed that evangelical Christians are the greatest domestic threat to the Jews. I wish we lived in a world where law abiding, patriotic, and philo-Semitic Christians were our biggest worry.

Lopez: Are Christian Zionists mostly conservative? Are Jews mostly liberal? Does that make matters weirder?

Brog: Yes, yes and yes. There is no doubt that one of the major stumbling blocks to a warmer evangelical-Jewish embrace is the fact that these communities tend to differ on social issues such as abortion and gay marriage (except for orthodox Jews, who tend to share the evangelicals’ opposition to both). Yet these differences need not be a stumbling block. There are hundreds of political coalitions out there, and what characterizes every last one of them is not that the member organizations agree on every issue, but that they agree on at least one issue—the issue that brought them to form a coalition in the first place. I think certain die-hard liberals in the Jewish community need to get over their belief that people who disagree with them on abortion or gay marriage are somehow beyond the pale of civil discourse. Reasonable people can and do differ on these issues.

Lopez: Who were the Ten Booms and how are they relevant today?

Brog: The Ten Booms were a family of devout Christians living in Holland during World War II. When the Germans occupied their city and began rounding up the Jews, the Ten Booms organized an underground railroad, hiding Jews in their home and then leading them under cover or darkness to hiding places that other like-minded Christians ran in the countryside. At the time of their arrest by the Nazis in 1944, the ten Boom family had organized a network of more than eighty volunteers who had rescued more than seven hundred Jews.

The ten Boom family paid dearly for its heroism. Casper ten Boom, the family patriarch, became sick in prison and died within days of his arrest. Both his daughter Betsie and his grandson Kik died in Nazi concentration camps. His son Willem ten Boom survived the concentration camps but emerged terribly ill and died shortly thereafter. Casper’s daughter Corrie ten Boom survived the concentration camps and spent the rest of her life sharing her family’s faith and story.

The ten Booms are highly relevant today because they demonstrate the sincerity and depth of the evangelical commitment to the Jewish people. The ten Booms were explicit in their rejection of replacement theology. And they were explicit in their love for the Jews. They risked (and lost) their lives to save Jews because of this Christian faith, not despite it.

There is a direct theological line from the Ten Booms to the Christian Zionists of today. While Jews no longer need to be hidden in Jewish homes, we do need Christian support in confronting new threats such as those from Iran and Hamas. We should embrace these modern-day righteous gentiles and work with them to defend Israel.

Lopez: How are Christian Zionists obsessed with the Holocaust?

Brog: When it comes to the Holocaust, Christian Zionists remind me of Jews. The Holocaust is the point of reference, the great calamity against which all actions and threats are judged. Yet the obsession may even be greater among certain Christians because they feel guilty about the fact that people claiming to share their faith permitted this atrocity. Thus they seize every opportunity to stand up for the Jews and in so doing demonstrate how true Christians behave.

A longing to make amends for the Holocaust often figures prominently in Christian Zionist speeches and fundraising literature. And the desire not to permit a second Holocaust drives their mounting alarm over Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons. No other community — with the possible exception of the Jews themselves — stresses the parallels between Hitler in the 1930s and Iran’s President Ahmadinejad today as do the evangelicals.

Lopez: You defend Pat Robertson. Why bother?

Brog: Because Pat Robertson is a good man. Because he has served America and Israel admirably over a long career. Shame on us if we let the mainstream media decide for us whom to honor and whom to cast aside.

Does Pat Robertson say some regrettable things? Sure. Does he apologize for these statements? Yes. Should the occasional inappropriate comment lead us to forget all he has done for Israel? I certainly hope not. Time after time Pat Robertson has thrown his significant political support behind Israel. He has visited Israel so many times he has lost count. And Robertson runs a major Christian university (Regent University), where he teaches the next generation of Christian leaders to support Israel. We should stand by our friends even when they err.

Lopez: Are there any prominent Christians you would not defend on anti-Semitism charges?

Brog: Where do I begin? David Duke. David Irving. Half of Europe. But when it comes to evangelical Christians, I’m not aware of any prominent anti-Semites. I think the two are incompatible.

Lopez: Do you think you needlessly look too hard for specifically Christian reasons for the president, the secretary of State and others to support Israel? Doesn't it just make good geopolitical sense?

Brog: I’m very careful in my book to state that the president has a number of strong political and geopolitical motives for supporting Israel, and that no one really knows the role that religion plays in his thinking.

That being said, however, there is definitely reason to believe that Bush’s faith does affect administration policy, both foreign and domestic. Look at the major difference between the way this President Bush treats Israel and the way his father did. Have the geopolitics really changed so much since Bush 41 left the White House? No. Has the religious orientation of the president changed? You bet.

Lopez: Speaking of Christians and conservatives…Arlen Specter gets juiced by criticism from the Right, doesn't he?

Brog: He’s not terribly fond of criticism from anyone.

Lopez: Whom do you want to read your book?

Brog: I want Jews to read my book so that they will get over their fears of evangelicals and embrace our friends. I want Christians to read my book so that they will understand both the imperatives of supporting Israel and the wary reaction they will receive from the Jewish community. And I want people who are interested in politics and foreign policy to read my book so that they can better comprehend the birth pangs of what in time will be a very important alliance.

Fake Anti-war Veteran Busted...again

Milbloggers are all over it.

This dude claims to be a former Ranger, and confesses to all kinds of war crimes.

The site:
http://www.peacefilms.org/ which created this phoney peice of agitprop is mysteriously down all of a sudden.

As the blogosphere calls them on their bullshit:
LGF Hot Air Blackfive says, "This spindly little weasel wouldn't have made it through 10 seconds of RIP, let alone Ranger school or life in a Ranger Batt.

The pic on his wall shows the wrong t-shirt, wrong sleeves roll, wrong flash, this boy is so many flavors of wrong I can't keep up. Just another deluded loser disrepsecting his betters. Be kinda fun to meet little bird-cage chest man in a bar as he is tellin' his war stories, eh?"

And I thought this was a Story about John Kerry.

HBO Reality And Democracy Now!

by Bob Parks

In the performance of my daily work duties, I was watching some of Wednesday’s edition of Democracy Now! Now while this is one of my more painful duties, I often find myself stopping and watching out of sheer disgust and this was another of those instances.

This Sunday night, HBO will be premiering the documentary “Baghdad ER” and DN hostess Amy Goodman’s demeanor during her interviews with the filmmakers and an Army doctor showed her contempt for our sons and daughters who were passing through the Baghdad hospital.

According to the DN website….

“The Army surgeon general has issued an unusual warning about an upcoming film that airs this Sunday on HBO. In a memo to military personnel, Lieutenant General Kevin Kiley writes that watching the documentary could result in symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, such as flashbacks or nightmares. The film “Baghdad ER” chronicles life in the emergency room of the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad’s Green Zone during a two-month period last year. It examines the daily lives of doctors, nurses, chaplains and soldiers who work at one of the busiest hospitals in Iraq.”

“Baghdad ER” was screened on Monday night at the National Museum of American History and is scheduled to be shown at 22 military installations around the country. But it has already caused controversy because of it’s graphic footage of soldiers reeling from, and in some cases dying, from their war wounds. HBO screened the film in March for Senior Army officials including Undersecretary of the Army Pete Green. HBO’s executive Vice President Richard Pleper said the film received an enthusiastic response.”

“But then last week, the Army suddenly seemed to withdraw support for the film. HBO’s offer to co-sponsor a screening of the film this week at Fort Campbell, Kentucky where the 86th is based- was turned down by the Pentagon. And last week the Army suddenly declined to attend Monday’s screening.”

The clips I saw were of actual emergency room doctors performing procedures. The footage was bloody and graphic. Injuries are a direct result of war, and I guess it was only a matter of time before reality television visited the war. There were also interviews with Army doctors, complete with the blood curdling screams of soldiers in the background, giving veiled anti-war comments.

I can understand the sentiments of those whose sole job it is to save limbs and lives. But it was the punctuation of questions asked by an Amy Goodman, who was seemingly fighting back smarmy smiles, while it would appear she was thinking; “We’ve got ‘em now.”

(Author’s note: the above picture is not from Wednesday’s broadcast, however that facial expression is a signature of Goodman.)

There was little if any talk during the interviews with award-winning filmmaker Jon Alpert, Matthew O’Neill, producer at Downtown Community Television who produced and Directed “Baghdad ER”, Dr. James Hill, flight surgeon in aviation medicine at Fort Rucker in Alabama who spent a year as an emergency medical physician in the Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, and Paula Zwillinger, whose son, U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Robert Mininger was killed in Iraq, about the “people” participating in the insurgency who injured the soldiers in the ER.

One could get the impression that all the servicemen were recipients of friendly fire as there was scant mention of the enemy.

Such a film would never be made during the reign of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as there would be no embedded reporters. He would have been concerned that such a film, especially when seen by the enemy, might embolden them. He would also be concerned what such a film, which is being aired as well in our military bases all around the world, might do to morale.

As far as the anti-war crowd is concerned, sabotaging troop morale is a virtue. The resulting emboldening of our enemy is not even considered as their primary focus is cut, run, and let things go back to the peaceful, serene oasis Iraq was during the Saddam Hussein regime. Post stress disorders by our service people as a result of watching “Baghdad ER” is something the left wants, in order to destabilize the order needed with our military.

Posted below is the transcript of the Democracy Now! segment on the documentary. The only thing not included is the smirks from Amy Goodman. Read on and use your imagination….

AMY GOODMAN: This is an excerpt of Baghdad ER

ARMY SURGEON: What all do we have to do to save his arm? What are our options?

ARMY SURGEON: It doesn’t look good.

ARMY SURGEON: He’s just got a massive injury to his arm. He’s going to lose it.

ARMY SURGEON: Hey, can you grab me an amputation set? Thanks, John.

ARMY MEDICAL PERSONNEL: You’re welcome.

ARMY SURGEON: Alright, let’s get this thing off.

MAJ. MARTIN HARNISH: This war and the number of lives it’s affecting is just unbelievable. I have to think that the people in this country are in a better place for it or will be in a better place for it. I have to believe that, because otherwise, this is just sheer madness.

AMY GOODMAN: That was an excerpt of the film, Baghdad ER, which will be shown on HBO this Sunday. We’re joined now by the filmmakers who produced and directed the film: our colleagues Jon Alpert and Matt O’Neill, both award-winning filmmakers here at Downtown Community Television. Between them, they’ve won 14 national and local Emmy Awards. We’re also joined from Alabama by Dr. James Hill, the flight surgeon in aviation medicine at Fort Rucker in Alabama. Dr. Hill spent a year as an emergency medical physician in the Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad. And on the phone with us is Paula Zwillinger. Her son Marine Lance Corporal Robert Mininger was killed in Iraq on June 6, 2005, 21 years old. We welcome you all to Democracy Now! We’re going to begin with Jon Alpert. Jon, tell us about the mission you went on to Baghdad, you and Matt O’Neill.

JON ALPERT: We spent two months in the Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad. It’s the main Army hospital, the most sophisticated facility that we have in Iraq. And when you’re wounded and your life is on the line, that’s where you’re taken. And the Army gave us complete access. We were embedded, and I was really quite surprised when we got there that the army completely facilitated our access to the facility. They’re extraordinarily proud of this facility. I’ve never seen doctors so dedicated. I’ve never seen miracles like this, and I’ve never seen horrors like this before.

AMY GOODMAN: Matt O’Neill, what most stands out for you as you were embedded in this unit in the emergency room?

MATTHEW O’NEILL: For me, it’s the relentless pace that the doctors are working under day after day. I mean, we spent two months there, and we came out exhausted and rattled by what we saw. And the doctors who were there, like Dr. Hill, were there for a year, and spending 12 months under those conditions working the enormously hard shifts that they worked is unbelievable.

AMY GOODMAN: Let’s go to Dr. Hill in Alabama. Your response to this film, Baghdad ER? Do you feel it captures what you went through, spending a year in the emergency medical unit at Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad?

DR. JAMES HILL: Well, I don’t think there’s any film that can capture a whole year’s worth of footage within an hour, but I definitely think that Jon Alpert and Matt O’Neill hit a home run with this production. It was sensational. It gave me flashbacks, and I’m a person who was trained at one of the best trauma centers in the country down in Miami. And I thought I saw everything before I went to Baghdad. And within six hours, the facility showed me that I just saw the beginning, the tip of the iceberg, and after a year, I did feel like I was beat down, I mean, just run over.

AMY GOODMAN: What was hardest for you, Dr. Hill?

DR. JAMES HILL: The hardest thing for me, and I believe it was for all the medical providers, was the difficulty in taking care of so many soldiers and at the same time having to take care of the Iraqi people that actually injured them. They’ll be in one bed, the Iraqi person that shot four or five soldiers, and three of those soldiers may have died, and we still had to deal with our personal feelings and the medical ethics of taking care of that individual, so they can stand trial. So, we have a very big test of our morality of saving these people that want to hurt us, that are definitely against us, and then also taking care of our American heroes.

AMY GOODMAN: I want to go to another clip of the HBO documentary that’s going to air Sunday called Baghdad ER.

MAJ. AL WEED: So this guy’s obviously been shot in several places. He’s got some fractures, and we’re just looking at his films here. He’s got a lot of shrapnel in his legs and stuff.

ARMY MEDICAL PERSONNEL: Man, it’s a rubber knee.

ARMY MEDICAL PERSONNEL: You should feel it. Very unstable fracture. He’ll probably end up losing that limb.

MAJ. AL WEED: These guys have injuries all over the place, and so you have to prioritize which injuries take precedence. Life over limb.

ARMY SURGEON: I’m just a good West Texas boy, and back in West Texas, we thought we were seeing some stuff, but out here it’s all — whole ‘nother ball game.

AMY GOODMAN: Another excerpt of Baghdad ER. So, Jon Alpert, what happened? You were embedded. You had the full support of the unit and the Army. They knew you were there, obviously. I mean, the images of just the two of you with your cameras right in there in the surgeries. What happened?

JON ALPERT: What happened in terms of the latest reaction to this?

AMY GOODMAN: The support, and then now as this film is coming out, the Army pulling back.

JON ALPERT: The support from the people who were there on the ground, the people in the hospital, the people who every single day are there saving American lives has not wavered at all. Everybody that we’ve spoken to feels honored by this film, is proud that they’re part of it, and they want everybody in the United States to see it. It’s been universal. There are people in some offices in the Pentagon that have had objections to this, but it’s certainly not anybody who is in Iraq helping to keep Americans alive.

AMY GOODMAN: Well, what about the top brass? What happened? They originally did support what you’re doing, and then at the Washington screening, where many of them were going to be — can you talk about the memos? Can you talk about what has turned around?

JON ALPERT: There certainly was an attempt at one point from the Secretary of the Army to see if HBO would change this film or alter it, and a phone call was made, and this is very sensitive. All these large media organizations are affected by Congressional legislation. There is a bill going through Congress that you’ve been talking about on your show that has certain language in it.

It’s billions of dollars for Time Warner one way and billions the other way if the language is changed, and when somebody makes a phone call, it’s intimidating. And to HBO’S credit — you know, I’ve been in this situation before in the first Gulf War. Our reports came back, and the news organizations wouldn’t play it. And HBO basically looked back and said, “You know, this is the truth, and it’s going on the air.” And I’m really proud to be associated with HBO on this, because they didn’t buckle.

AMY GOODMAN: The call that was made, the Secretary of the Army called the president of HBO?

JON ALPERT: Not president. He called a vice president of HBO?

AMY GOODMAN: Who was it?

JON ALPERT: I don’t know. I’m not privy to the conversation, but I do know that he wondered whether certain things in the program could be changed, and HBO said, “Hell, no.”

MATTHEW O’NEILL: I think it’s important to understand that every person that wears a uniform that’s spoken to us, including the top people in the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Army, have nothing but respect for this film, and they’ve told us directly that they think that it accurately captures the truth of what’s happening over there and the heroic efforts that the soldiers, the doctor soldiers are making every day in Iraq.

AMY GOODMAN: Dr. Hill, why do you think this film has become so controversial, if it simply captures what you did on a daily basis in the Baghdad ER?

DR. JAMES HILL: That’s a really difficult question to answer. I’m more of a medical professional, emergency medicine physician, if you would. What we did there was just to save as many people as we possibly could. Our commander took care of the logistics. I took care of the medical expertise, as well as Dr. Pembrey, who you’ll see in the movie, and as well as many other doctors that were there every single day just getting bloody and doing what we do.

AMY GOODMAN: I want to turn now to another clip from Baghdad ER that Major Hill is in, as well.

ARMY CHAPLAIN: Lord, you brought him to us. We tried everything we could to save his life. But it was not our — not up to us. Lord, we pray that his life and even his death might be used to hasten peace and end this terrible war.

DR. JAMES HILL: Another crummy day in Baghdad.

ARMY SURGEON: Very young, very young. P.F.C. hasn’t been in very long, and the specialist could have been in a few years, but could have come in as a specialist. A lot of young kids over here getting hurt.

AMY GOODMAN: Major Hill, you were there as the person is dying, saying, “Another crummy day in Baghdad.” Your feelings when someone dies?

DR. JAMES HILL: I feel a personal loss, because it’s my patient. I take responsibility for each one of my patients, whether they end up in the morgue or they end up in the O.R. and make it back to their families. It feels like a triumph when we get them back to their families, and they give us a call and say, “Thanks a lot. I really appreciate everything you did for me.” And to tell you the truth, I don’t do anything that I don’t normally do. This is what I was trained to do. This is what I love to do, and I just love to see our American guys getting back to their families.

AMY GOODMAN: We’re also joined on the phone by Paula Zwillinger. Her son U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Robert Mininger was killed in Iraq June 6, 2005. He was 21 years old. This film has to bring back memories for you. First of all, condolences on the loss of your son, Paula.

PAULA ZWILLINGER: Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate that.

AMY GOODMAN: How important do you think it is for people to see these images?

PAULA ZWILLINGER: I think it’s very important. It brings the reality of the war into the home. Right now, as we’ve talked about previously, what is the public really seeing nowadays? They’re seeing a paragraph on the second page of a newspaper saying that, you know, we lost X number of lives today, whether it be an I.E.D., whether a tank rolled over, and it’s just a little paragraph, and you don’t really get the visual image of really what war is about until you see the movie.

It’s very easy to read it in the paper. There’s no getting around it. It’s a little cold. It’s not detailed. You know, you never get details in the newspaper, but when you see the documentary it really hits home, because it’s reality. What you’re going to see is war, and it’s the outcome of war, whether it be positive or negative.

AMY GOODMAN: And your feelings now about the Army seeming to pull back, withdraw support from showing this film, saying it’s going to cause post-traumatic stress and even putting pressure on HBO to change this film, to delete scenes?

PAULA ZWILLINGER: Well, you know, I have an opinion and, you know, the more I think about it, as Jon mentioned that, you know, it does have political ties to it, but you know, everybody has to take from this documentary their own feelings, and right now with — everybody has an opinion about the war. Of course, with the polls and everything showing, you know, where the American public really resides as to our opinion as to whether we should be there or not and how things have changed, I mean, that’s an ever ongoing situation, but it definitely has a strong image of what war is about.

AMY GOODMAN: Paula, Matt and Jon brought you to New York, because they had filmed the death of your son in the Baghdad ER.

PAULA ZWILLINGER: Correct.

AMY GOODMAN: You, alone, watched this with your husband.

PAULA ZWILLINGER: Yes.

AMY GOODMAN: What were your feelings?

PAULA ZWILLINGER: Well, you have to understand that I initially had 17 hours where I knew nothing. It was, in essence, a black hole. I had many questions that I thought I would never get the answers to, and five months later, after, you know, losing Bob, Matt called me and told me about the documentary that they were working on, and for me to see this footage again of my son literally puts me at his bedside, and I think that is a precious gift that any parent would take, to literally be there at your son’s bedside.

You know, it’s — you have to wonder, timing of it and everything, as to why they were there when Bob came through the door, you know, all those little coincidences and things of that nature, but in reality it has given me peace. It has given me closure. It has answered some of my questions that I’ve had. It has given me the opportunity to talk with the doctors and the nurses who took care of him. Not every parent gets those answers in a time of war when their child is, you know, injured or killed overseas. And again, you know, I am very fortunate that I have that now, so I look at it as a gift.

AMY GOODMAN: Jon Alpert?

JON ALPERT: And on our part, it was an honor to meet Paula. It was an honor to meet the doctors who tried to save her son’s life and people like Dr. Hill who every single day were working in ways that just made me so proud to be with them. And I’m actually appreciative to the Army, because the Army did everything they could to help us capture this. It’s my firm belief that the soldiers in uniform want every American to see this film, and they’re proud of it, and I’m proud to have been part of it, and I want to thank all the military people that helped us.

AMY GOODMAN: Do you think it will be shown in Fort Campbell?

JON ALPERT: It was shown in Fort Campbell last night to a very enthusiastic response. We’ve talked to the soldiers, right? You talked to some of the soldiers.

MATTHEW O’NEILL: I talked to some of the soldiers who saw the film yesterday in Fort Campbell in a closed screening, just for people in the C.A.S.H. who were involved with the film, and one major called me up and she said, “I don’t understand what the warnings are about. You guys only showed the tip of the iceberg. They were saying this was gruesome, and you showed nothing.”

AMY GOODMAN: On that note, I want to thank you very much for being with us. The film will air on Sunday night on HBO, Baghdad ER. Matt O’Neill, Jon Alpert, the filmmakers; Paula Zwillinger, thank you for being with us; and Dr. Hill in Alabama, thank you so much.

www.democracynow.org

Do any of us remember a “Mogadishu ER” or a “Haiti ER” or a “Bosnia ER” show being produced when a Democrat president initiated war…? The Hollywood crowd will embrace this documentary and no doubt, will rain Emmy Awards all over it. However, I again lament the using of active duty personnel to deliver their anti-war message, almost daring the military to discipline those personnel for conduct detrimental to morale.

I also lament the using of our military bases as a quasi worldwide press junket to promote a film that’s only purpose is to foment anti-military attitude while dismissing the carnage brought on by our nation’s enemies. Although I’ve not seen the finished work, I’m quite sure the words “Al Qaeda” are absent from the program, thus the cause of the injuries to our servicepeople seems omitted on purpose.

I would not be writing this if not for the conduct of Amy Goodman, who was seemingly holding back her glee during the interview. Glee at the opportunity of disseminating yet another anti-war message, this time at the expense of young men and women whose screams were heard in the Baghdad ER.

Keep smiling, Amy.

RE-ELECTED NAGIN THANKS BUSH

May 22, 2006 -- An exuberant New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, in a victory speech yesterday after his re-election, tried to heal rifts by thanking President Bush for helping the rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina.

Nagin narrowly defeated Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, 52.3 to 47.7 percent, in a vote largely split on racial lines. He also praised Bush for "delivering on your promise" with billions to rebuild New Orleans.

'Beloved' Tops Peers' List of Top Novels

Toni Morrison's 1987 work Beloved is the best American novel of the past quarter-century. That's according to a vote of writers and critics who were invited to weigh in with their choices by The New York Times Book Review.

The 124 literary lights who responded to the Times invitation gave multiple mentions to five Philip Roth novels -- especially American Pastoral. Cormac McCarthy has four books on the list: Blood Meridian plus his Border Trilogy.

John Updike also has four: each of the novels in his Rabbit Angstrom series, which began with 1960's Rabbit, Run, but stretches into the 1990s.

Democrat Rep. William Jefferson Busted!

So much for the Dems' attack on the GOP culture of corruption.

Now, they've got to contend with Democrat Rep. William Jefferson reportedly caught on tape accepting bribes in cold, hard cash. Emphasize on cold:

A congressman under investigation for bribery was caught on videotape accepting $100,000 in $100 bills from an FBI informant whose conversations with the lawmaker also were recorded, according to a court document released Sunday. Agents later found the cash hidden in his freezer.
At one audiotaped meeting, Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., chuckles about writing in code to keep secret what the government contends was his corrupt role in getting his children a cut of a communications company's deal for work in Africa.

As Jefferson and the informant passed notes about what percentage the lawmaker's family might receive, the congressman "began laughing and said, 'All these damn notes we're writing to each other as if we're talking, as if the FBI is watching,'" according to the affidavit. ...

As for the $100,000, the government says Jefferson got the money in a leather briefcase last July 30 at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Arlington. The plan was for the lawmaker to use the cash to bribe a high-ranking Nigerian official — the name is blacked out in the court document — to ensure the success of a business deal in that country, the affidavit said.

All but $10,000 was recovered on Aug. 3 when the FBI searched Jefferson's home in Washington. The money was stuffed in his freezer, wrapped in $10,000 packs and concealed in food containers and aluminum foil...

Two of Jefferson's associates have pleaded guilty to bribery-related charges in federal court in Alexandria. One, businessman Vernon Jackson of Louisville, Ky., admitted paying more than $400,000 in bribes to the lawmaker in exchange for his help securing business deals for Jackson's telecommunications company in Nigeria and other African countries.

The new details about the case emerged after federal agents searched Jefferson's congressional office on Capitol Hill Saturday night and Sunday. The nearly 100-page affidavit for a search warrant, made public Sunday with large portions blacked out, spells out much of the evidence so far.

The document includes excerpts of conversations between Jefferson and an unidentified business executive from northern Virginia. She agreed to wear a wire after she approached the FBI with complaints that Jefferson and an associate had ripped her off in a business deal.

Jefferson's lawyer, Robert Trout, contended that the prosecutors' disclosure was "part of a public relations agenda and an attempt to embarrass Congressman Jefferson. The affidavit itself is just one side of the story which has not been tested in court," Trout said in a statement.

The affidavit says Jefferson is caught on videotape at the Ritz-Carlton as he takes a reddish-brown briefcase from the trunk of the informant's car, slips it into a cloth bag, puts the bag into his 1990 Lincoln Town Car and drives away.

The $100 bills in the suitcase had the same serial numbers as those found in Jefferson's freezer...

Rebuilding America..

Rebuilding America

by John Kenneth Blackwell and Jerome R. Corsi, Ph.D.

A Prescription for Creating Strong Families, Building the Wealth of Working People, And Redeveloping Our Cities

In 1965 President Lyndon Johnson launched the War on Poverty as a centerpiece of the Great Society's effort to eliminate poverty in America. Forty years and many trillions of dollars later, poverty in America has increased despite the efforts of the largest governmental welfare system ever created in human history.

In direct challenge to the liberal political thinking that built the welfare state, John Kenneth Blackwell and Jerome R. Corsi have developed a blueprint for a new War on Poverty, utilizing an innovative approach to mobilizing urban capital to strengthen African American families, build wealth through meaningful employment among those now in poverty, and develop America's urban landscape without imposing additional tax burdens on the American people. Rebuilding America directly attacks the problems of African American poverty, arguing that abortion and AIDS threaten to inflect genocide upon black communities unless we find a way to utilize urban capital to end the welfare dependency that threatens the survival of the African American family.

After four decades of failure of the welfare state, Blackwell and Corsi argue for its phase-out through applying new techniques of public finance—not dependent upon new taxes—to enlist financial institutions in deploying new urban capital into rebuilding our cities. The goal is to work with established and newly formed corporations that integrate jobs and re-training programs to advance an "ownership society" in which families can thrive.
Rebuilding America is meant to be a blueprint for John Kenneth Blackwell's campaign for governor of Ohio. In it, he argues that as governor of Ohio he can implement the action plan described in the book as an alternative, conservative model for attacking urban poverty that can be applied in other states as well.

Quote Of The Day...

"To be called an Uncle Tom is an honor. Like our foundational black thinkers, Uncle Tom is often invoked but rarely read. He is not who the Politburo says he is. He was a moral, religious man of dignity and duty who accepted his lot as a slave because he had no choice yet by his behavior transcended it. He was an ancestor of whom to be proud; how has it been overlooked that he chose torture and death rather than inform on two sexually abused female runaways?"

Protest Warrior's Clash with MoveOn.org

A free market coalition led by FreedomWorks and Protest Warrior crashed the press conference held today by Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA), MoveOn.org and musician Moby. Our sign “Net Brutality” proved fitting, as one of the Left’s activists struck one of our members in the face with a sign. This incident interrupted the press conference, causing Rep. Markey and Moby to turn and look at the commotion. The man was swiftly ushered away by the MoveOn crowd as to avoid further embarrassment. MoveOn claims that the man was not a member, but was “some random guy from off the street.”

FreedomWorks staff and volunteers attended the press conference with signs that said, “Say No to Net Neutrality,” “Hands Off the Internet” and “No Net Neutering.” FreedomWorks handed out copies of Researcher Arpan Sura’s piece on net neutrality published in Human Events Online, as well as today’s The Wall Street Journal’s piece on the same topic.

The would-be Internet regulators tried to block these signs and marginalize the message of FreedomWorks and Protest Warrior. However, as the pictures show, we were able to avoid being censored.

The hypocrisy of the Left was evident today, as they did not welcome any dissenting views. The Left’s frustration was apparent as reporters began snapping photos and pointing their TV cameras at the protestors, and Rep. Markey’s message got lost in the battle for positioning behind him. One Hill staffer was particularly upset when a FreedomWorks staff member was interviewed by NPR news. The Hill staffer even interrupted the reporter, to which the reporter instructed the Hill staffer to let him to do his job.

After the press conference, FreedomWorks staff handed a copy of our position on the issue to Moby, who said he would read it. He also apologized for the bad behavior of the belligerent activist who used tried to use his sign as a bludgeon.

The rain that fell at the end of the rally was almost symbolic. Using grassroots tactics and the element of surprise, FreedomWorks and Protest Warrior supplied the proverbial rain on the Internet regulators’ parade.

Senate votes English US national language

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US Senate voted to make English the national language of the United States as dispute raged over US immigration law reform.

"The government of the United States shall preserve and enhance the role of English as the national language of the USA," said an amendment to immigration legislation introduced by Oklahoma Republican James Inhofe and approved 63-34.

It requires English to be the language of all official paperwork and business, with some exceptions for voter registration, courts and help during disasters

No country is above or beneath having an official language. Spanish has been the de facto second tongue in the US as far back as I am able to remember.

Spanish is a wonderful language, and it has influenced our own language since before thoughts of a "manifest destiny." It is not a badge of honor, nor is it a shame to say loud and clear, "English is the language of the US."

Top Taleban commander 'arrested'

One of the Taleban's leading commanders, Mullah Dadullah, has been captured by international troops in Afghanistan, the BBC has been told.

He is said to have been detained in the southern province of Kandahar.
The BBC's Alastair Leithead in Kabul says Mullah Dadullah has a reputation as a brutal military commander.

Last year a court in Pakistan sentenced Mullah Dadullah to life in prison for trying to kill a member of the Pakistani parliament.
Three years ago, Mullah Dadullah told the BBC the Taleban, deposed in 2001, hoped to regain power in Afghanistan.

I don't know I thought it would be but it seems unlikely any of those three will win at least this time.I think Michael Steele rocks, I love his approach and the way he projects himself.

I don't know if anyone watches Bill Maher, but if you ever see Steele as a guest I suggest you watch it.

He just does a good job of explaining why he believes what he believes while at the same time placing doubt in the minds of those who disagree with him.
I like blackwell too, I think he has the best chance and he's a tough guy, straight shooter type.

Lynn Swynn I don't know much about him but I think he's doing the worse of the three which is a concern because bush in 2004 got 16% of the black vote in PA and 15% of the democrat vote and he trailing by over 20 against his opponent

WHERE ARE THE LABOR UNIONS???

Amongst the immigration debate theres been a weak response from the group that it affects the most labor unions!!!!

Guest workers wont be able to unionize and the wages of low skilled labor will hit an all time low. Unions use to fight for better conditions and wages for blue collar workers. Unions are supposed to fend off scab workers, but few unions are speaking out against the guest worker program. Guest workers wont strike for better working conditions because their citizenship is at risk.

Businesses will place wages for unskilled jobs so low that only guest workers will fill them. In closing we wont need to outsource as many jobs overseas we can insource now with the guest worker program.

Somalia..The ANARCHIST HEAVEN??

Somalia currently exists solely in a de jure capacity. Somalia has no recognized central government authority nor any other feature associated with an established nation state. De facto authority resides in the hands of the governments for the unrecognized entities of Somaliland and Puntland, and with other rival warlords.

Since Somalia has no resemblance of a government, why are'nt the anarchist leaving in flocks to go there? While we all know that most "anarchists" are petulant spoiled suburban white kids trying to piss their parents off, there are some hardcore ones.

If they did they'd have to stop complaining, and that's half the fun of being an anarchist. Heck, it's all they do, really. Also I wonder how many of them would piss on themselves if they got actual anarchy.

Suppose Iran were to Nuke Israel?

If Iran were to nuke Israel, with a nuclear weapon would not millions of Palestinians die as well?

I am sure many radical Islamic preachers say that if any fellow Muslims are killed by accident/collateral damage, then those Muslim casualties count as martyrs and enter Paradise.

So I guess the muslims clerics in Iran would use the Palestinans own reasoning;
when they straps bombs on and kill jews. They are martyrs, so I guess Iran
will make all Palestinan's martyrs!

If they would target Jerusalem, a Muslem holy site, the Dome of the Rock
will be destoyed.

Some how the Dome of the Rock not the people that would keep
Iran from goung to war.

UNITED NATIONS WORLD CONFERENCE AGAINST RACISM (UNWCR)

The World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance ran from August 30 to September 7, 2001 in Durban, South Africa. The agenda and the speakers made it plain that "related intolerance" meant the policies of the United States or Israel.

The dictator of Libya, Muammar Khadaffi, inadvertently revealed the purpose of the Durban Conference when he offered his opinion on who should pay reparations for slavery: "The whites must pay." The conference's primary agenda was to equate Zionism with racism. The draft for the

Durban declaration called the Israeli control of areas populated by Palestinians "a crime against humanity." The secondary agenda was to extract Western cash as compensation for slavery, the slave trade, colonialism, and the ill-defined "economic and political exclusion."

Despite its name, the conference was a celebration of hatred, an embrace of racism, and an orgy of xenophobia, with the Western world as the prime target. Though slavery was, for centuries, a universal human practice and today exists only outside the West, which was the first region in the world to abolish slavery, the conference directed blame exclusively at the West. Meanwhile, there was no mention made of contemporary chattel slavery in the Sudan and Mauritania, the caste system of India, the Chinese rape of Tibet, Robert Mugabe's persecution of white farmers in Zimbabwe, tribal hatred between the Hutus and Tutsis of Rwanda, or the intense anti-Semitism of the Arab world. Rather, Fidel Castro impugned Israel for its "ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people."

The behavior of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) was even worse. The NGO forum featured sales of the 19th Century anti-Semitic forgery The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, as well as numerous displays of flyers that asked (approvingly), "WHAT IF HITLER HAD WON?" Numerous times in its 474-paragraph "Declaration," the forum accused Israel of practicing "racism" and "apartheid." (The full text of the declaration is available at www.racism.org.za. Featured speakers repeatedly compared Israel to apartheid South Africa. American NGOs supported reparations from Western nations for the historic transatlantic slave trade and developed resolutions that condemned only the West, without mentioning the larger traffic in African slaves sent to Islamic lands. The NGOs even endorsed a resolution denouncing free market capitalism as a "fundamentally flawed system."

In protest to such one-sided unfairness, the American and Israeli delegations walked out of the racism conference, while Arab governments wrangled over how to equate Zionism with racism, and African governments seethed that their demands for reparations had gone unheeded.

KWAME NKRUMAH

Founder of the All-African People's Revolutionary Party

Made Ghana a corrupt, one-party state, appointing himself "Life President"
Allied himself with Communist nations

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah became vice-president of the West African Students Union in England in 1945 and was leader of "The Circle," which worked for the de-colonization of West Africa by England. He served as General Secretary of the United Gold Coast Convention from 1947-1948 and formed the Convention People's Party in 1947. In 1952 he took office as the prime minister of the British colony, and eight years later he became the first prime minister of the country after it achieved independence. In 1964 he outlawed all political opposition and made Ghana a one-party state, naming himself Life President. As George Ayittey points out in his book Africa Betrayed, Nkrumah "declared the opposition's newspaper campaigns as well as its strikes and boycotts, which were constitutionally guaranteed rights, illegal. He incarcerated members of the opposition."

Criticized by the West for these actions, Nkrumah sought to ally himself with the Soviet Union and other Communist nations. Nkrumah's regime was infamous for its excesses and rampant corruption. He borrowed heavily to finance the country. But poorly funded large development projects, most notably the construction of the Akosombo Dam on the Volta River, left Ghana in economic chaos. By 1966, Ghana was $1 billion in debt. Nkrumah was overthrown in a military coup in 1966.

Nkrumah was the creator of Pan-Africanism - a political movement calling for the forced repatriation of all Africans and African Americans, for the purpose of having them take control of the government of each African nation. He founded the All-African People's Revolutionary Party (AAPRP), a socialist organization that advocates reparations to contemporary African Americans and promotes a socialist revolution in all African nations, by any means necessary. The AAPRP's declared objective is "to create and manage the political-economic conditions necessary to the emergence of an All-African People's Revolutionary Army that would lead the military struggle against neo-olonialism, settler colonialism, Zionism, imperialism and all other forms of capitalist oppression and exploitation; and for the emergence of Pan-Africanism."

Nkrumah died of natural causes in 1972. Ghana has remained a dictatorship ever since.

Stupid in America: Who would you like to murder today?

Teacher Has Kids Write About Whom They'd Murder
District, Teacher Apologize For Mistake

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- A Missouri high school teacher has apologized for asking students to write about whom they would kill and how they would do it.

He said it was a horrible mistake he regrets.

Michael Maxwell said the request to describe how students would carry out a murder was merely a writing exercise. Maxwell teaches a beginning drafting class and it's not clear why he asked the class to write fiction.

School officials in St. Joseph said the teacher will likely keep his job.

"He's an exemplary person ... this is very out of character," the principal said.

Administrators found out about the writing request when a parent filed a complaint with the principal. A school district spokesman isn't commenting on possible disciplinary measures, but said the incident probably isn't serious enough to cost Maxwell his job.

About 25 to 30 students from ninth through 12th grades were in the class.

Yeah......mistake my ass!

Update on Marcus Skeltons Campaign

Council At-Large Update

Note to D.C. illegal weapons dealers: When selling armor piercing bullets please dont write Cop Killer Bullets on the receipt.

D.C. Council members passed an amendment that would give people convicted of the crime a one-year mandatory sentence if they "knowingly" possessed armor piercing bullets. If that is the best our D.C. Council can do to protect our police force we need to elect new Councilmembers.

Also, In Sundays Washington Post a candidate questioned whether his opponents could meet three key challenges.

Can you run the city?

Do you have a grassroots campaign?

Can you raise money?

We answer YES!!!! to all of these challenges and that Yes!!! gets louder everyday as we come closer to election day.

Country radio nixes Dixie Chickens

NASHVILLLE, Tenn., May 22 (UPI) -- It appears the war U.S. country radio stations mounted against the politically outspoken Dixie Chicks has not abated in the least.

The band is promoting "Taking the Long Way," its first album since Natalie Maines told a London audience in 2003 she was ashamed to be from the same state as U.S. President George Bush. The comment sparked a radio boycott of the group's music.

Although the album hits stores Tuesday, the first two singles from the album are not getting widespread airplay, Billboard.com reported Monday.

The first single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," only peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and the second single, "Everybody Knows," is moving downward after its peak at No. 48.

WKIS FM in Miami reported it pulled "Not Ready to Make Nice" due to listener complaints after only one week.

The program director at KUBL/KKAT in Salt Lake City told Billboard he was angered by its "self-indulgent and selfish lyrics."

Neither the Chicks or their label, Columbia Records, would speak to Billboard for its article.

Maybe the Chicks are in the wrong venue. Maybe they should plan a tour of North Korea or Zimbabwe or Iran...somewhere like that. The burqas would provide a nice makeover for all three of them.

Someone most definetly needs to tell these liitle Chicks not to bite the hand that feeds you. When the Dixie Chicks careers are over(hopefully sooner than later)they'll probably blame it on the vast "rightwing conspiracy".

U.S. Says It Would Welcome Ayaan Hirsi Ali

U.S. Says It Would Welcome Former Dutch Legislator

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a prominent moderate-conservative feminist critic of Islam and a former member of the Dutch Parliament, will be welcome in the United States regardless of her immigration status in the Netherlands, the U.S. State Department's number two official said today. The Somali-born woman resigned earlier this week after the Dutch immigration minister said she lied about her name on her asylum application when she fled an arranged marriage to come to Holland in 1992, an admission that she has publicly made since 2002 before she was invited to run for political office. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick called Ms. Hirsi Ali a “very courageous and impressive woman.” “She is welcome to come to the United States,” he said at a press briefing in The Hague in Holland.

Ms. Hirsi Ali lives under police protection since publicly renouncing her Muslim faith back in 2002, and getting numerous death threats. "Submission", a film she wrote criticizing the treatment of women under Islam, led to the murder of its director by an Muslim extremist. She is currently working on the sequel, as well as a book about Islam and modernity. Ms. Hirsi Ali was recently forced to leave her apartment in The Hague after neighbors complained that security arrangements were an unfair nuisance for them.

Deputy Secretary Zoellick declined to comment on what protection she would receive in the United States, but said “obviously she needs to be taken care of.” Ms. Hirsi Ali is “an important personage that whether in Europe or United States we can all learn from,” he added. Dutch Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk - who is currently locked in a close race for her party's nomination and a chance to become the country's prime minister in 2007 elections, and is running on a strict immigration platform - told Ms. Hirsi Ali on Monday that her citizenship was now automatically invalid. In a debate on Tuesday, Minister Verdonk's decision was criticized heavily from all sides in Dutch parliament, including her own libertarian VVD party — of which Ms. Hirsi Ali is also a member. The Dutch Parliament passed a resolution ordering Ms. Verdonk to reconsider her decision, or to accelerate a new naturalization application for Ms. Hirsi Ali. But yesterday, Miniister Verdonk said she doubted she would change her mind. “We have laws in the Netherlands, and those laws say when you can become Dutch,” she said at a campaign event in Almere. “However fantastic I may think Ayaan is, I can't say yes, I must say no, and I have to uphold the law.” Ms. Hirsi Ali says she bears Minister Verdonk no ill will.

Ms. Hirsi Ali has declined to confirm reports she intended to go to the American Enterprise Institute. However, the conservative think-tank's president, Christopher DeMuth, said in an open letter on Tuesday that he was “looking forward to welcoming you to AEI, and to America.”

So it looks like Ayaan Hirsi Ali will do her American Dream thing, with Secretary Condoleezza Rice controlling things behind the scenes at her State Department shop. Condi had her right-hand man go all the way to Holland to make this announcement? It should be very interesting to see how Ms. Hirsi Ali integrates into the American ideological scene, with her combination of fiscal moderatism, social moderatism, but neo-conservative foreign policy outlook.

Osama Bin Laden's Raped a Black Feminist Activist

An Interview With Osama Bin Laden's Former African Mistress

Bruce Dunne of The Post Journal interviews Kola Boof about her just released autobiography.

New York, NY (BlackNews.com) - The author of six books published in eight countries, Kola Boof is not only Sudan's top selling novelist, but in 1996, was the mistress of Osama Bin Laden.....a fact that jeopardized her American citizenship four years ago, until Morocco's Prince Fabrizzio Ruspolli confirmed Boof's claim that she had been held against her will by Bin Laden at Ruspoli's estate for sexual purposes.
Boof reveals a side of the terror chief that's never been explored before. In a telephone interview, I learned a few things that I never expected to find out...such as where he's been hiding.

BRUCE DUNNE: Where is Bin Laden?

KOLA BOOF: Well, about eighteen months ago he was in South Waziristan, the Toba Kakar Mountains in Pakistan. It's the state of Baluchistan. I mean, that's going by the authorities. I personally haven't spoken to him since 1998.

BRUCE DUNNE: What do you think of the recent rumors that Bin Laden is dead?

KOLA BOOF: Well, they're just that--rumors.

BRUCE DUNNE: You say you lived with Bin Laden for six months in 1996, and I'll be asking you some very tough questions about that in a moment, but what was he like back then?

KOLA BOOF: Well, he's extremely complex. I thought of him as a very rich gangbanger--he wasn't hiding in caves, although I don't know what he did when he wasn't in Morocco.

Of course, he's evil, and that's what people want to hear....but he also believes that he's saving the world by forcing everyone to submit to Islam and to Arabism. Osama is a gifted poet, he was very softspoken and sensitive--but also violent....he beat me, and he was tyrannical towards his men and embarrassed about sex......but addicted to it. Because I'm black and wasn't Muslim at that time, he considered me a "non-woman". A piece of meat for men to wipe their sins off on.

BRUCE DUNNE: Peter Bergen, a biographer of Bin Laden, has called you delusional. He says that Osama Bin Laden was never in Morocco in 1996--in fact, I believe he claims that Bin Laden has never been to Morocco period.

KOLA BOOF: Peter Bergen doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, but I'm sure that the media would take the word of a white man who's never met Osama against the word of a Black woman who used to share his bed.

The fact is...Osama Bin Laden was in Morocco in 1996, he was in Afghanistan, he lived in Sudan, he went to Ethiopia, Tanzania and Egypt that year. He went to Iran for a wedding. Peter Bergen and none of these know-it-all white men know a damned thing about where Osama was...if they did...the U.S. government would have been able to find Osama back in 1996. So don't listen to the Arabs and the White men.

BRUCE DUNNE: Peter Bergen says that Bin Laden is a chronic prayer...praying ten or twelve times a day.

KOLA BOOF: That wasn't true in 1996. Osama prayed on Tuesdays and Thursdays like that...all day Tuesday and Thursday, but not everyday. Bergen never lived with Osama. He's going by heresay.

BRUCE DUNNE: He raped you the first night you met. How did you meet and how did you become his captive?

KOLA BOOF: We met in a restaurant in Marrakech. I was there with my date and Osama came in with his men and ordered me over to his table. They escorted my date out of the restaurant and I never saw him again. Osama chatted with me for a few minutes, and then later that night, he came to my hotel room with his men and he raped me very violently. And then a few days after that, his men arrived again at my hotel...only this time to fetch me and my belongings. They took me to the Medina, La Maison Arabe, and I was kept there in the Winston Churchill room for six months. Osama came to the estate off and on, about four out of those six months total. He had sex with me and I accompanied him and his men on hunting expeditions and fishing trips. I got to know a lot of his friends, such as his doctor Ayman al-Zawahiri.

BRUCE DUNNE: You say that you're annoyed by American women who complain that you don't act like a rape victim.

KOLA BOOF: It was ten years ago that Bin Laden raped me. I can't imagine why I should be crying and acting emotional. Of course it was terrible being raped...but I had to survive and that meant I had to pretend to like the man. There was no time for whining..and in writing the book, there's no time for feminist theatrics. He raped me the first night and we became lovers, because I had to survive.

BRUCE DUNNE: Most people definitely haven't read your novels and poems--they don't know that you're Sudan's most published literary writer--you say that it's because you're so intelligent that Bin Laden was attracted to you.

KOLA BOOF: Osama's mother was like a feminist, she refused to wear a burka, two or three of Bin Laden's wives are University Professors. I don't see why that's so hard for Americans to believe. They think because they've never heard of me or because my name sounds comical to them that I'm just a bimbo. And stupid. When they see that I'm black, they tack on "liar".

BRUCE DUNNE: I have to admit I loved your autobiography, but do you really believe that you know more about Bin Laden than his wives?

KOLA BOOF: Well in any mansion...it's the MAIDS and the "Whores" who know the most. Trust me.

BRUCE DUNNE: Bin Laden's been rumored to have suffered from kidney problems. Can you tell us anything about that?

KOLA BOOF: I'd rather people buy the book, so they can read about his health difficulties in detail. An interview isn't the proper...

BRUCE DUNNE: You say that you're a liberal Democrat, but you're very supportive of President Bush's war on terrorism. Is that correct?

KOLA BOOF: I'm not interested in President Bush in the least, and yes, I'm a liberal Democrat...but I'm also a person who comes from the Arab world and I can tell you that I was raised in Sudanese elementary school to believe that America is Satan's country, that White men are "the devil" and to strap a bomb on my back and blow up innocent people at the post office in the name of Allah....and look at this idiot president in Iran. I want blacks in America to understand that the "Arab" is just as much of a Satan as the White man. To me, the Arab man is more Satanic than the White man. No race likes black people--not Arabs, Caucasians, Asians, Latinos, Mulattoes--nobody likes blacks. Black Americans need to look at the recent massacre of Black Sudanese in a public park in Egypt and get a clue. You have to be sensible about terrorism, and I think that Americans are way too spoiled, too rich and comfortable. They like to fancy themselves as fair people....but it's the relaxed, fair ones that die of poisoned drinking water while listening to their Barbra Streisand records, although I'm a huge Streisand fan myself.

I advise Americans to question their government's tactics, surely, but when it comes to Arab Muslim Imperialism and terrorism, support your government. There is corruption in every world government....but none are more corrupt than the governments of the Arab world, and that is Kola Boof's experience as a half-Arab, Black African woman, and my opinion is just as important any other American's.

BRUCE DUNNE: Who despises you the most? Arab Muslim leaders, the Nation of Islam, American media, Black American men or Bin Laden experts?

KOLA BOOF: I don't know.

BRUCE DUNNE: In 2004, you were able to secure about six hundred million dollars worth of guns and ammunition for Sudan's south rebel army by giving a rather powerful speech in Israel. You were also featured on Benjamin Netanyahu's web site. What exactly are your connections to Israel or the SPLA's for that matter?

KOLA BOOF: Israelis and the South Sudanese are nothing alike, but we share a common enemy, a very common struggle. If it weren't for Israel we wouldn't have had food or medicine or weapons to defend our children in the South Sudan. We had no other offering of help. And, of course, as a member of the SPLA, I had to work very closely with the Israelis on behalf of my people. I would do anything for Africa.

BRUCE DUNNE: Very recently, with the James Frey scandal and the debates about the integrity of memoir nowadays, how do we know that your book isn't a pack of lies, just another fabulous scheme to further your own writing career by getting rich off Bin Laden's name?

KOLA BOOF: You don't know. But the fact is.....my book is true and none of it is fabricated, and for those who think otherwise, I really don't give a damn. This is my life story, my soul book. As Mary J. Blige sings....'you can hate it or love it".

Diary of a Lost Girl: The Autobiography of Kola Boof (0-9712019-8-6), is available in hardcover on Feb. 1st

Only Whites Can Be Racist?

Quote:
Only white people can be racist, at least according to the Seattle public school system. Here's how they define racism:

The systematic subordination of members of targeted racial groups who have relatively little social power in the United States (Blacks, Latino/as, Native Americans, and Asians), by the members of the agent racial group who have relatively more social power (Whites).

By this definition, if a white person were murdered simply for being white, it could not be considered a racist act.

The school system also says that "emphasizing individualism as opposed to a more collective ideology" is a form of "cultural racism." In other words, if you believe that group privileges should not be placed above the rights of individuals, you are a racist. The only way not to be a racist is to embrace a "collective ideology," which throughout history has been better known as communism or socialism.

I'm sure if you asked the teachers in Seattle whether they were indoctrinating their students, they would deny it adamantly. But all you need to do is read their definition of racism to see how they're steering students into their preferred ideology. Individualism is bad. Collectivism is good. Only whites can be racist.

Of course black people can be racist, I use to hate white people when

I was younger. I recall watchting white kids being beat up at my middle school by blacks
kids who yelled anti white slurs.

There are also a ton of black supremasit groups n america
that rival the KKK.

Below are some facts from the Souther Poverty Law Center

http://www.splcenter.org/intel/map/hate.jsp?S=GA&m=4

Georgia:

White racist groups: 13
Black racist groups: 12
White population: 62.6%
Black population: 28.7%

Less than a third of the population, but black hate groups form nearly half (one under!) of the racist groups in that state.

Ever heard of the Nation of Islam? How about the Order of Rastafari? I'll bet you've heard of the New Black Panther Party.

The Nation of Gods and Earths is an offshoot of Nation of Islam; but NOI considers them heretics because the NOGAE founder didn't think NOI was radical and was pro-Black supremecy enough, if you can believe that.
No list of Black supremists would be complete without Nation of Yahweh.

Also the five percenter their beliefs go something like this. 85% of the population are ignorant of thier surroundings. 10% are devils and i use that word literally. and 5% are the enlightened. they believe whites are from an experiement thousands of years ago and that we're all decended from satan (the lightbringer).

Satan was the original white man. and they subscribe to all the science fiction that is the nation of islam.

It can be said thought that many of these black racist groups formed out
of being victims of hate, and racism.

Whites are the majority in this nation;and as a consequense they are not subject to racism as minorities are. Their lives are not effected by it, their jobs are not hindered because of it, their families do not suffer because of it.

But to say that black people can never be racist is silly and scary!

Can Moderate Islam Save Us?

I am trying to figure this one out, is moderate Islam the answer to radical Islam?
Are moderate muslims the only ones who can speak in terms which can sooth the radicals? What is moderate Islam?
I have a muslim neighbor and she is not like the terroist.
What about Islam keeps her tame while other Muslims go on attack?
Does Islam need a reformation?
