Gold Star Families who support the War

My son LCPL Justin M. Ellsworth was killed on November 13, 2004 outside of Fallujah.

He died believing in the mission on the War on Terror and the positive things that were happening in Iraq.

In September of 2004, Justin had just arrived in Iraq when I asked him his opinion of the war. He said, Dad, we have to be here, they want us here and we are making a difference in the lives of these people.

So I must ask if LCPL Justin Ellsworth U.S.M.C. can see the difference that the Coalition troops are making in the lives of Iraqis, why cant we?

I have made it my goal to get the positive news in Iraq out to the media for Justin and the countless number of people who stand along side of him, and have joined with an organization to do just that. Learn more here.

So I am asking you to send a message to the media.

Please go to this website:

Sign the letter, and forward it to your friends.

I hope you will join me in encouraging the national media to recognize that Iraqi Liberation Day is on April 9th. Don’t Ignore this Milestone!

Sincerely,

Was the War Worth It?

Time Magazine offers this question in the March 20th edition.
These are the comments of those who said yes.

HISHAM KASSEM Sadly, I have to say yes.

It is difficult to commend such a bloody scene. But it achieved something useful. Parallel to the chaos and bloodshed, there is a political process evolving in Iraq. Bloodshed is the price of the transition from Saddam's psychopathic dictatorship. The losses would have been higher had Saddam stayed on. You could easily see that regime lasting another 30 years, under his sons and top generals. Negotiating with Iraq was not an option. There had to be a military intervention. You have a bloc of 22 countries in the Arab world dominated by authoritarianism and dictatorship. It is not a bloc you could engage politically and pressure for reform. By military intervention, the U.S. is able to pressure the region into adopting the reforms we are beginning to see across the region that might avert many countries from becoming failed states. The world cannot put up with state failure in the backyard of the world's oil fields, Israel and Europe.

Democracy activist Kassem is vice chairman of the Egyptian daily newspaper Al-Masry al-Youm

MICHAEL YOUNG Yes, Iraq was worth it, because it exposed more clearly than ever the brutal underpinnings of Arab nationalist rule. From an Iraqi perspective, there is much uncertainty today but also no nostalgia for the savagery of Saddam's rule. From the U.S.'s perspective, the struggle to stabilize Iraq will discourage similar endeavors in the future, but the war also highlighted how subcontracting American interests in the Middle East to supposedly stable Arab dictatorships is no longer viable. The shoddy edifice that U.S. soldiers so quickly dismantled in Iraq is no less present in countries Washington considers allies. Iraq may or may not be the pivot of a regional democratic resurgence, but it is a reminder to Americans that much can be gained by challenging the debilitating status quo if the aftermath is gotten right. Unless democracy becomes a cornerstone of Washington's efforts, its alliances will seem more than ever built on a mountain of illegitimacy.

CHIBLI MALLAT Yes, the U.S.-led war to get rid of the dictatorship was worth it for most Iraqis and for those who, like me, supported them against one of the most ruthless governments in modern history. But for the young Marine from Oklahoma or the child in Iraq blown up this past week or the one before, it wasn't. Better things must obtain from the demise of Iraq's dictatorship, even if it is largely accepted now that the end of Saddam's rule represents a positive precedent for Iraq and the modern Middle East. Democratic Iraq, like democratic Germany or Japan, might make all the sacrifices less painful.

Exposing the Three-Fifths Of a Person Myth

Most young black teens from an early age are often given inaccurate historical
accounts about slavery in America.
Most of these assertions have more to do with emmotions than with the facts.
One popular slavery myth that gets pounded over an over is the the "Three fifths rule"..which according to black leftist ingrained into law that blacks were subhuman.
Leading many to think that we should have been counted fully.
The history behind this is much more complex as the piece below will try
to explain.

This is from a PBS's documentory on George Washington!

It is sometimes wrongly said that the famous Three-Fifths compromise meant that the founders considered slaves as only partial human beings. In fact, the compromise had nothing to do with the human worth of the individual slave. States with slaves wanted to count all of their slaves in the state’s population because that would yield more representatives in Congress.

The opponents of slavery, noting that slaves had no rights of citizenship including the vote, argued that slaves should not be counted at all for purposes of representation. In the end, the compromise was to count three-fifths of the state’s slaves in the total population. In another words, for every five slaves, three of would be added to the population count used to determine representation in the House of Representatives.

The Slavery Compromises

Since representation in the House of Representatives was to be based on population, a debate arose over whether slaves should be counted in a states population. According to James Madisons diary, the issue of slavery was the most divisive subject at the convention. While many of the Founding Fathers including George Washington viewed slavery as inconsistent with the principles of the Revolution and the Declaration of Independence, they knew that there was little chance of abolishing slavery at the time.

After all, if those opposed to slavery insisted on its abolition, slave states could have walked out of the convention and formed their own nation with a pro-slavery constitution. So the issue of slavery would require compromise if the United States were to survive. Washington and the other Founders hoped that slavery could be eliminated from the United States once a strong union was formed.

"Get Whitey"..NYU student possibly killed by Gang

Posted by Michael M. Bates

On April 3,

the New York Times reported (Man Hit by Car; Witnesses Say He Was Chased) on a young man who was seriously hurt (and later died) after darting into a busy Harlem intersection. Witnesses to the incident, according to the Times' account, said it appeared the victim was being chased by several young men.

No reference to the race of the victim or the young men pursuing him was mentioned.

Today's New York Post Online Edition reports on the same incident: "The NYPD hate-crimes unit is probing a report that a white NYU student killed by a car in Harlem was fleeing a gang of black teenagers screaming 'Get whitey!' sources said yesterday."

5 Lessons Republicans Can Learn from Obama

One of the most obvious talents of freshman Democrat Senator Barack Obama is his speaking ability. Besides delivering a riveting keynote address at the National Convention, his charisma overpowered audiences all across Illinois on his way to a blow-out victory. What does he have that many Republicans lack?

Here are a few keys to Obama's speaking style:

1) Connects with the audience. Whether commencement speeches, political rallies, or the convention speech, Obama tells a personal story or joke to create report and gain credibility in the eyes of the audience. In a recent speech to the American Library Association, he acknowledged a staffer's mother who was present and made this joke, "Believe me, I have no idea how the biggest mouth in our office came from a family of two librarians, but we're proud to have him on board and I'm sure you are too."

2) Uses good historical illusions. Not only does he draw on the stories about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. or Abraham Lincoln, he connects those stories to the situation the audience is facing.

3) Utilizes repetition. In this speech before the NAACP, he uses the old preaching tool, "And sometimes, when I reflect on those giants of the Civil Rights movement, I wonder - where did you find that courage? John Lewis, where did you find that courage? Dorothy Height, where did you find that courage? Rosa Parks, where did you find that courage?"

4) Speaks with passion. In a basic speech class, I was taught the first rule of public speaking is to pick a subject you are passionate about. Even if the subject is birds or amoeba, the key is to show the audience you are passionate about the subject. If you don't care, they certainly won't. Obama definitely shows his passion in whatever subject he is speaking.

5) Ends with hope. While he often sets up stark divisions, he always concludes on an upbeat note. ". . . I also ask you to remember that in this country, our history of overcoming the seemingly impossible always comes about because individuals who care really can make a difference. America is great because Americans are good." Whether it's participating in a volunteer organization or turning out to vote, Obama motivates the audience to take action.

Poll Finds Steele May Be Magnet for Black Voters

Candidate's Ties to President Bush Judged a Potential Vulnerability

There’s an encouraging new poll out today – and it was taken by the Democrats.

The poll finds that as many as 44% of African-American voters would consider abandoning their traditional Democrat allegiances by voting for Michael Steele in Maryland’s Senate race. Now that they know how formidable a candidate Steele, the internal memo shows Democrats poised to engage in a smear campaign to “knock Steele down” sooner rather than later. The Washington Post writes up the poll here:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/05/AR2006040502392_pf.html?s=steele

By learn more about Michael Steele’s campaign at http://www.steeleformaryland.com.

By Matthew Mosk

Washington Post Staff Writer

An internal document prepared by a top Democratic strategist warns that a majority of African American voters in Maryland are open to supporting Republican Senate candidate Michael S. Steele and advises the party not to wait to "knock Steele down."

The 37-page report says a sizable segment of likely black voters -- as much as 44 percent -- would readily abandon their historic Democratic allegiances "after hearing Steele's messaging."

"Governor Ehrlich and [Lt. Gov.] Michael Steele have a clear ability to break through the Democratic stronghold among African American voters in Maryland," says the March 27 report by Cornell Belcher, polling consultant for the Democratic National Committee, which bases its findings on a survey of 489 black voters in Maryland conducted last month.

The report, given to The Washington Post this week, drills into a topic that has emerged as a key focus of this year's U.S. Senate contest in Maryland: race.

In 2002, Steele became the first African American elected to statewide office in Maryland, and he has designed his Senate campaign to cut into the black support that has traditionally flocked to Democrats.

More than a half-dozen Democrats are vying for the open seat being vacated by Paul S. Sarbanes (D), including the former head of the NAACP, Kweisi Mfume.

Maryland Democratic Party Executive Director Derek B. Walker said the study verified what, internally, party strategists had already concluded: that African American voters who have served as a reliable base for generations cannot be taken for granted.

"It confirms that in this day and age, everyone expects us to do more than just rest on history," Walker said. "We knew we were going to have to engage. But we also know it will be easier for us to forge that relationship because we're right on the issues."

If the findings of the poll are correct, they paint a somewhat different vision of the black electorate from what has been commonly understood to this point, said David Bositis, a senior research associate at the D.C.-based Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. Bositis said nothing in his research suggests that an African American Republican will be able to grab a significant segment of the black vote.

The DNC survey finds that 22 percent of black voters support Steele when matched against a "generic" Democrat.

"There's just no way it's that high," Bositis said, noting that Steele's performance among black voters in the 2002 election did not approach that number. "If he was that much of a draw then it's doubtful he would only have received 13 percent of the black vote."

There are other aspects of the survey, though, that Bositis says are consistent with national findings. Among them: that young black men represent a voting bloc far less loyal to Democrats. It also finds more support for Steele in Baltimore than in Prince George's County, more backing among churchgoers, and stronger support among those without a college degree.

In an interview in his State House office yesterday, Steele clutched the DNC report like a football coach who just got his hands on the opposing team's playbook. He said a copy "landed on our doorstep" in the past week.

"This explains everything," he said. "They're afraid of what I represent. They're afraid of the fact that African American voters have options, and I'm one of them."

Steele focused on two aspects of the document: the finding that a high percentage of black voters have connected with his message and the recommendation that the Democrats attack him early.

"Voters need to know they're trying to make me into something I'm not," Steele said.

He deflected questions about a potential vulnerability exposed in the report. A message that resonated with black voters identified Steele as "George W. Bush's hand-picked candidate," the survey found. It's a message Democrats have tried to exploit. Even as Walker discussed the findings, he pointed to a photograph hanging in his office -- it shows Steele and Bush arm in arm.

The poll finds that only 8 percent of black voters in Maryland approve of the president's performance. And it signals that early support Steele has received from Bush and his advisers will rub black voters the wrong way.

"Connecting Steele to national Republicans . . . can turn Steele into a typical Republican in the eyes of voters, as opposed to an African American candidate," it says.

That has been the aim of the Democrats in the race. In a statement yesterday, an aide to Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin said he found "no surprises in this poll."

"Like the vast majority of Marylanders, African Americans know that the Bush-Steele agenda is wrong for our state and our nation," said Oren Shur, the Cardin campaign spokesman.

Mfume advisers, however, said the survey should sound alarms.

"There's significance there," said Mfume strategist Walter Ludwig. "Everybody up and down the ticket needs to make sure African Americans don't feel like they're being taken for granted."

Other Democrats in the race include A. Robert Kaufman, Allan Lichtman, Josh Rales, Dennis Rasmussen and Lise Van Susteren.

Steele says he will fight Democratic efforts to frame the campaign around national issues. His campaign Web site and literature do not identify his political party and do not mention his long and close ties to the White House.

"I am independent in thought," he said. "What I'm about is what's important to Marylanders."

Respones to Rep. Cynthia McKinney

She's made a complete idiot out of herself and black people in general. By playing the race card over some s*** that SHE did (you don't smack a cop, what the hell is wrong with you) she makes it really touch on people when racism actually happens.

I'm getting tired of people hollering racism every time something doesn't go their way, usually after they do some stupid crap themselves. There are people who don't even know who the vice freakin' president is, why does she think all of a sudden she's worldwide like that? Everyone is supposed to just know who she is from the back after she changed her hair and got fat?I hope they throw the book at her.

She didn't make an idiot out of black people any more than Tom Delay made an idiot out of white people, her response speaks to her character not mine or ours.

The people I really feel sorry for are the ones in her district. They have NOTHING to show for her time in office.Shirley Chisholm is probably spinning in her grave over this.

The Covenant with Black America: A Review

The Covenant with Black America: A Review
By Dell Gines

The Covenant with Black America, a book of essays on the condition of us Blacks in America compiled by Tavis Smiley, talk show host organizer of the State of the Black Union (which this book is an offshoot of) was one of the most disappointing books I have ever read. Based upon the hype, the fact that it was selling out and needed to be special ordered, and the projected transformative content, I had hoped that this book would be something new and unique with the power to transform Black America or at least provide a critical plan of attack. I was wrong.

If you subtract out the excellent statistics that are provided with each chapter you are left with absolutely, well nothing. You are left with nothing new that is as every chapter is a regurgitation of old ideas that are 95% government expansion and bureaucracy creation based. When personal or community solutions are posited they are done so in a hap hazard fashion with nothing provided in the way of real grassroots organization. In fact because it was so government centric in its solutions is exactly WHY I was so disappointed. With seemingly no strategic aim or destination that says

1. We Should Be There
2. Here is How We Will Get There
3. These Are the Resources Needed
4. This is When It Should Be Accomplished

the book read more like a collection of topics illustrating inequities as opposed to a true solution based revolutionary manual for us Black Americans.

If a covenant is a binding agreement and that covenant is with Black America, and the book is addressed to Black Americans, it was my (obviously wrong thought) that it would be a book about us swearing to ourselves that we would make a difference amongst ourselves for ourselves and by ourselves first an foremost. That although we recognized the ultimate necessity to create change in our government it didnt supercede our need to create change FUBU style (for us by us) first on a large scale. Ceding virtual God status to the government for the holistic transformation of our people the book in effect minimized the power that we have to create change, not enhance it.

The lack of any real tools provided in each section of the book that concentrate on grassroots organizing, strategic community planning, rebuilding faith, love and trust, self-policing, self governing, and economic development amongst ourselves makes the book functionally weak. Instead of a Garveyistic Africa for Africans, a Booker T Washington artisanship emphasis, a Nation of Islam nationalistic religious self-help, a Stokely Carmichael Black Power or a Dr. Claude Anderson Powernomics, instead I got a liberal lesson on the 1029 ways the government should expand and serve us poor ole blak folk, cuz we be so brokin don.

Until we recognize that internal strength and the competitiveness of our communities is the only way to defend ourselves from external conditions that work to destroy us then we will always be stuck waiting (as a minority in a democracy) for those who do not have our best interest at heart to help us up. Some may hope on the altruism of the modern predominantly caucasian male politician to help us, but I for one will not hold my breath.

So in the final analysis the Covenant with Black America was not a Covenant with Black America at all. In reality it was a request for the government to be the Black mans Jesus. I reject that, and still hold to the Powernomics principles of Dr. Claude Anderson as the most relevant work to come out of modern black leadership in the last twenty years.

Soledad Vs McKinney

(Hat Tip: Darnell at The Independent Conservative)

Soledad was trying to ask her what happened on the day in question and McKinney tried her best to avoid the question. Soledad was getting noticeably ticked that McKinney was avoiding the question.

And she even told McKinney something like I care about matters of race too. Because Soledad is Black and Irish. McKinneys defense team seems to think that continually crying racial profiling will somehow justify punching a police officer.

When Soledad was seeking a straight answer from McKinney, her lawyer interuptted and gave what seemed to be some type of talking point statement about the incident.

DeLay: McKinney Is a Racist Everything Is Racism With Her (AUDIO)

Rep. Tom DeLay phoned in on FOX & Friends this morning to discuss his announcement that he will not run for re-election and will retire before the end of his term.

On the subject of Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D – GA) the Congressman had this to say:

DELAY: Cynthia McKinney is a racist.

She has a long history of racism.

Everything is racism with her.

This is incredible arrogance, and—that sometimes hits these members of congress but especially Cynthia McKinney

Omar Ahmed Khadr

Reuters is reporting that A Canadian teen charged with killing a U.S. Army medic in Afghanistan told a Guantanamo war crimes tribunal on Wednesday that he was being unfairly punished and would no longer participate.

Omar Khadr, 19, who the U.S. military says was trained by the al Qaeda militant group, told the court he was being punished for exercising his rights but did not elaborate.

His military lawyer, Lt. Col. Colby Vokey, angrily said Khadr had been moved to solitary confinement "for no reason whatsoever" on March 30, making it difficult to prepare a defense.

Who is Omar Ahmed Khadr?
I was surprised to see that he was so young!
His bio on Wikipedia has alot to say him and his family.

Below is the article from Wikipedia.

Omar Ahmed Khadr born
September 16, 1987 (some sources say September 19, 1986) in Ottawa), is a Canadian teenager who was captured by American forces in Afghanistan. He is almost the youngest prisoner being held in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

On July 27, 2002, 14- or 15-year-old Khadr was in a compound near
Khost that was surrounded by US special forces. According to the US version of events, the Americans called on those in the compound to surrender. When they refused a firefight ensued. Sergeant Layne Morris was injured early in the skirmish.

The Americans called in a bombardment.
Most press accounts of the skirmish say that Khadr killed a "
medic", implying that he had attacked a noncombatant after giving his surrender, but although Sgt. Christopher Speer had been trained as a medic, he was actually leading the squad combing the compound after they believed all occupants had been killed.

A video-tape was reportedly found in the ruins showing Khadr planting mines. The Americans say that while being interrogated at
Bagram Air Base, Khadr confessed to entering a US occupied section of Afghanistan, to gather surveillance intelligence on the local airport.

Incarceration at Guantánamo Bay
There were other detainees incarcerated at Guantánamo Bay who were still just children. They were kept in a smaller compound,
Camp Iguana, where they were treated humanely. They were not required to wear the orange coveralls. They were provided with school teachers, and recreation. The BBC interviewed one 13-year-old child detainee upon his return to Afghanistan. He had learned to read at Camp Iguana. The two years he spent there were the only education he had ever had, and he reported being sorry to leave.

Elaine Chao the US Secretary of Labor has spoken about the responsibility to give child soldiers special treatment, to provide help for them to re-integrate into society.[3] She announced a $3 million program to help re-integrate child-soldiers in Afghanistan back into Afghan society.
But Khadr was not kept with the other child detainees.

Khadr was treated as an adult. Khadr has been reported to have been kept in solitary confinement, for long periods of time; to have been denied adequate medical treatment; to have been subjected to "
short shackling", and left bound, in uncomfortable "stress positions" until he soiled himself. In a press conference on January 16, 2005, Khadr's lawyers described how Khadr's captors took Khadr's still bound body and wiped his hair and clothes in his urine and feces.

Khadr leapt from hiding and threw a grenade, which killed Sgt. Speer, and injured 3 other members of the squad.
[1] Omar was shot three times, and left nearly blind in one eye.

Khadr was charged with
murder for his actions against the squad inside the compound near Khost, Afghanistan. The charges against Mr. Khadr allege that his father, the late Ahmed Said Khadr, a Canadian Islamic extremist, was a close friend of Osama bin Laden and his Egyptian deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri, and that Omar Khadr also was acquainted with Mr. bin Laden, the Al Qaeda leader.

On
November 9, 2005, the Globe and Mail reported that the United States had informally indicated they would not seek the death penalty in Omar's trial, though there was no official assurance. On December 1, 2005 the officers were appointed to the Guantanamo military commission that would judge Khadr

Passing the Liberal Torch at CBS

CBS the largest television network in the United States, hired Katie Couric to take the place of Dan Rathers.

Liberals seem to take over CBS, and given the Dan Rather situation, one would think they would hire a less polarising figure. But it seems that CBS who gave us such liberals as Edward R. "Ed" Murrow, Walter Cronkite, and Dan Rather is ready to past
the torch to another liberal Katie Couric

In her years on Today, She’s lectured Charlton Heston about the need for gun control, championed the need for campaign finance "reform," and even touted the wonders of France’s nanny state.

Here are some of the most outrageous quotes from Katie’s career, many accompanied by audio and video clips.

Julius Rosenwalds Legacy on Race Relations

Julius Rosenwald was an early pioneer in the struggle for black
equality.

He was also a very rich and powerful capitolist with a great since of
justice and hope for African Americans.

Julius Rosenwald was a U.S. clothier, manufacturer, business executive, and philanthropist.

He is best known as a part-owner and leader of Sears, Roebuck and Company, and for the Rosenwald Fund which donated millions to support the education of African Americans and other worthy causes in the first half of the 20th century.

Julius Rosenwald was born to clothier Samuel Rosenwald and his wife Augusta Hammerslough Rosenwald, a Jewish immigrant family from Germany. He was born and raised just a few blocks from the Abraham Lincoln residence in Springfield, Illinois during Lincoln's presidency of the United States.

After the 1906 financial reorganization of Sears, Rosenwald became friends with Goldman Sachs's other senior partner, Paul Sachs. Sachs often stayed with Rosenwald during his many trips to Chicago and the two would discuss America's social situation, agreeing that the plight of African Americans was the most serious in the US. Sachs introduced Rosenwald to two promoters of African American education, William H. Baldwin and Booker T. Washington.

Rosenwald made common cause with Washington and was asked to serve on the Board of Directors of the Tuskegee Institute in 1912, a position he also held for the remainder of his life.

He also endowed the Institute so that Washington could spend less time on the road seeking funding and devote more time towards management of the Institute.

Dr. Washington encouraged Rosenwald to address the poor state of African American education in the US, and he responded by providing funds for the construction of six small schools in rural Alabama, which were constructed and opened in 1913 and 1914, and overseen by Tuskegee. Built by and for African Americans, the project foreshadowed the role in education Julius Rosenwald would play. Inspired by the social progressivism of Jane Addams, Minnie Low, Grace Abbott, Paul Sachs, and Booker T. Washington and the Reform Judaism of Emil Hirsch and Julian Mack (many of whom were his personal friends as well), Rosenwald devoted his time, energy, and money towards philanthropy. In his words, written in 1911:

"The horrors that are due to race prejudice come home to the Jew more forcefully than to others of the white race, on account of the centuries of persecution which they have suffered and still suffer."

His Rosenwald Fund was established in 1917 for "the well-being of mankind." Unlike other endowed foundations, which were designed to fund themselves in perpetuity, The Rosenwald Fund was intended to use all of its funds for philanthropic purposes. In doing so, the fund was completely spent by 1948.

Over the course of his life, Rosenwald and his fund donated over 70 million dollars to public schools, colleges and universities, museums, Jewish charities and black institutions. The school building program was one of the largest programs administered by the Rosenwald Fund, contributing over four million dollars in matching funds to the construction of over five thousand schools, shops, and teachers' homes in the south. These schools became known as "Rosenwald Schools."

He gave $1000 grants to the first 100 counties in the U.S. to hire County Extension Agents, helping the US Department of Agriculture launch a program that was very valuable to rural Americans. He was also the principal founder and backer for the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, to which he gave over five million dollars and served as the President (1927-1932).

Rosenwald died at his home in the Ravinia section of Highland Park, Illinois, on January 6, 1932.

The First Black Charter Schools?

With all the talk about charter schools, the Rosenwald School may have been the first
charter schools provided for black children. And it was a rich, Jewish capitalist who provided these schools when the goverment did not!

A Rosenwald School was the name informally applied to over five thousand schools, shops, and teachers' homes in the United States which were built primarily for the education of African Americans in the early twentieth century. The name originated with Julius Rosenwald, an American clothier who became part-owner and president of Sears, Roebuck and Company, and founder of The Rosenwald Fund, through which many of the schools and other philanthropic causes were funded. A requirement of grants for local matching funds resulted in community efforts which raised millions of dollars.

Drug Laws?

As conservatives we take a hands off approach to legislation.

In other words the less laws and programs the better.

But what about drug laws?
What should be the policy?

I think the war on drugs can't be won fighting with the tactics of the last 20 years. Is it really healthy to keep locking up black male youth on such a massive level?

Problem 1) The Black Market. Drug crime is a result of an illegal market that is never going to completely dry up.

Problem 2) How to punish the crime. How do we repair the inner city when half of our young men have criminal records or are behind bars? Is incarcaration the answer?

I think most problems in the inner city are cultural. But on the point of drug laws I think we could actually improve the situation by improving the laws. I have ideas but not necessarilly all the solutions. I'd like to hear more ideas and see about a better debate.

One thing I won't have time to swallow is the idea that pounding out the message "Drugs are Immoral" etc works in the real world. Many people have experimented and its stupid to deny how many people see the upside. They do the things. We need to accept the fact that some times some normal good people want to do it, get hooked or what have you. Making moralistic statements doesn't deter users. It doesn't help people.

I am against legalization based on affirming social standards against hedonism. Though I am open to legalization if I can be convinced it will reduce crime, incarcaration, use and the continued destruction of our population.

I look forward to post on this issue it is something we all need to understand better.

THE MIS-EDUCATION OF BLACKS

It's time to take care of ourselves

Raynard Jackson, Guest Columnist

In the Black community there is always talk about how White people have miseducated us in order to keep us in mental slavery. But at what point do we take responsibility for ourselves?

Nationwide, only 68% of all students graduate from high school (this does not include those who earn a GED). Among White students, the rate is 75% and around 50% for Black, Latino, and Native Americans. The rates are even lower when you isolate males from these three groups - the rates are 48%, 47%, and 43% respectively.

Why are these numbers so low? Bush's No Child Left Behind law is not the problem. Money is not the problem, and it's definitely not racism. The problem in the U.S. is "us."

It can be traced back to the late 60's and early 70's when Black women bought into the feminist agenda which told them that "if it feels good, do it; you don't need a man; your career is more important than being a stay at home mom." Now, these women have children who are having children, and each successive generation of kids are less able to function in our society.

They have a kid and within 3 months, they begin to ship them off to babysitters so they can go back to work. They work such long hours that they don't make time to be involved in their children's education. Most have little, if any, contact with their children's school or its staff.

There is no inherent, constitutionally protected right for a woman to have a child. It's a choice! And if you choose to have a child, you should first be married. Then, once you are married, you and your husband should be financially able to afford to have and raise a child-meaning that one of the parents should be willing to stay at home with the child during the first few years of the child's life. This simple act alone would go a long way towards dealing with the high school drop out crises within our community.

I am aware that my view will be controversial, but you can't blame White folks for your decision to have a baby you can't afford or for being a bad parent. Kids in the context of marriage brings stability into a child's life, gives incentives to parents to be more responsible, and has proven to be a positive influence in the child's mental and intellectual development. Yes, there are successful single parents, but I am not arguing the exception - I am arguing the rule.

Parenthood is not like a chicken laying an egg. It's like a pig giving bacon-a total commitment! Too many parents view having a child as a pit stop on the road of life-have a kid, send to day care, and get on with "my" life. When you decide to have a child, your life STOPS!! Your whole focus should now be put into your child. This involves going to school activities, meeting the teachers and principal, going to school to pick up grades. Notice that none of this has to do with more money for schools, Bush's No Child Left Behind, or racism.

This is all about parental involvement. All the money, the best buildings, the best neighborhoods, the best curriculum mean nothing without involvement from parents in their children's lives.

Now, there is definitely a legitimate role for the government to play in education, but I put more of the onus on the parents. The government can do everything right, but if it is not reinforced and nurtured at home, then it's a waste and that's a parental problem, not a governmental issue. To think anything else proves the miseducation of today's parents.

Bob Parks Campaign Update

Campaign update from Bob Parks - Massachussets (Mar 23)

I am honored to be a candidate, a Republican candidate a black Republican candidate... in of all places Massachusetts.

While most campaigns have their ups and downs this candidacy is complete with a lot of up side.

As a nationally syndicated columnist of four years, my positions are not only well known, but documented. Voters need not guess what my opinions are on a variety of topics.

They just need Google me and they'll not only understand those positions and the reasoning behind them, but my temperament on those issues.

Also as a columnist whose job it is to educate as well as entertain I'll never be one of those politicians who are unavailable for comment when topics get dicey.

I try to always have a position on any given topic and I'll never shy away from a fight because I fear poll numbers and thus my standing in the public eye.

Those of you who have read my work know I'll say what I mean, and those of you who know me professionally know I do what I say. Massachusetts is a project and I am in it for the long haul.

I look forward to giving the Democrats all they can handle here, and hope to inspire others to get involved and start to set our state in the right direction.

McCain lacking votes for guest-worker plan...Awsome!

Republican Sen. John McCain says his guest-worker program allowing illegal aliens to stay in the U.S. does not have enough Senate votes to stave off opposition from conservatives, who call it an amnesty plan.

A majority of senators have indicated they would support the measure, but it lacks the 60 votes necessary to overcome parliamentary tactics by opponents. The House passed a controversial bill in December that has sparked massive protests by advocates of illegal immigrants, making it a felony to be in the country illegally.

I like John McCain , but on this issue he is dead wrong!
Bush is also dead wrong, and if there is any impeachment it should
be over the Amensty bull crap!
Shut the border down, we are ar war Mr President.
Stop acting like a deer in head lights.
Thank you Dr.Frist.

If McCain whines over this guest worker program I will be forced
to support Tancredo.
I will never ever forgive this president if a terrioist comes through
the southern or nothern border and kills Americans.

I voted for Bush and support the war, but I have limits and the border
needs be sealed with an electric fence if need be....but sealed.

Zogbys Biased Steele Poll

According to a poll released Friday by the liberal Zogby poll, Cardin
is leading Steele in there latest poll!

According to the LIBERAL Zogby poll Mr. Cardin, a Democrat, received 48.8 percent support, and Mr. Steele, a Republican, drew 39.4 percent in a poll of an "undisclosed number of online respondents who regularly participate in Zogby polls".

Who are these "undisclosed number of online respondents who regularly participate in Zogby polls".

Is this the same Zogby poll who said Bush had lost the 2004 election?

According to Wikipedia he has history of Republican bashing!

In
2004, Zogbys predictions failed to materialize.

Before polls had even closed in the
2004 presidential election, Zogby predicted a comfortable win for John Kerry (311 electoral votes, versus 213 for Bush, with 14 too close to call), saying that "Bush had this election lost a long time ago," adding that voters wanted a change and would vote for "any candidate who was not Bush." While admitting that he was mistaken, Zogby did not admit any possible flaws in his poll methods, insisting that his predictions were all "within the margin of error."

Meanwhile, opponents charged that his calling the race for Kerry while polling was still going on may have been a cynical attempt to depress the turnout.

Margin of error my black ass..Bush won in a landslide...what marging is he talking about?

So this poll means nothing, given the attacks the DNC has thrown at Steele, I would
not be suprised if these " undisclosed number of online respondents" were from
Marylands Democrat HQ's.

Look these guys have already tried to destroy Steele by stealing his credit report!

So Zogby putting out a convinent poll during this scandal is not surprising.

But thats just my paranoid view..wha cares what I have to say.

And by the way does Zogby still have his America Bashing TV show ?

That show made me wanna vomit!

Ex-Democrat joins Steele's Senate campaign

Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele has filled two of his top U.S. Senate campaign staff slots, naming a former Democrat as his deputy campaign manager.

Marcus Reese 30 who worked for the Georgia Democratic Party in 2002, is the new deputy campaign director for Mr. Steele a Republican.

This move shows Steels might be using Bloombers up in New Yorks tacticts.
Bloombers entire staff where mostly Democrats.
Great pick Steele!

Meat, It's What's For Dinner

The guys from Little Brother were vegetarians but are no PETA supporters.

Two years ago Little Brother did an interview with PETA as vegetarians. At the time they did not know a lot about PETA but since have objected to PETA's use of the interview. Little Brother became hostile to PETA after PETA's campaign last year comparing animal cruelty to slavery.
http://www.tolerance.org/news/article_tol.jsp?id=1266

Group Member Phonte wrote the following on MySpace:

Plus, my problems with PETA run waaaaay deeper than that.

To me they come across as rich white folk who are privileged enough to fight a struggle that the average everyday working person could really give a fuck about. Meat is murder? Get the fuck outta here with that bullshit! Meat aint murder, its whats for dinner! Plus, any organization that attempts to compare animal abuse to HUMAN SLAVERY can eat a dick…..for real for real….

I guess I've never been much of an animal sympathizer……truth be told I dont even like pets…..never have really…..I never even dated girls who had pets…..I thought them hoes was nasty for living with a fo legged creature…..Its not that I want to just pointlessly slaughter animals or anything….its just that when I see a chicken, I don't think 'oh, poor little helpless creature of God. I'm thinkin Fo piece waing dinner, niggas!

Meat ain't murder, its whats for dinner! That's pretty funny. Phonte goes on in his blog about how stores shouldn't sell fancy collars and black people shouldnt be allowed to own pets.

DeLay announces resignation from House

To all the moonbats who are about to party hardy over the announcemnt of Delays departure what about innocent until proven guilty?

Isn't that what you jerks rant about when it comes to the terroist?

Oh wait, that only applies to a Democrats and the terrioist being detained!

No Blood For Oil Myth!

Roughly 25% of our imported petro is from Arab nations.

We import from both canada and mexico more than we do from saudi arabia itself.
Last year we imported over 2 thousand barrels a day from canada 1600 a day from mxico and only 1500 a day from saudi arabia.

My source it the DEPT of energy. check up on it.

Out of the top 15 countries we imported a total of 11, 500 barrels a day (rounded off) and only 2, 800 of that was arab (saudi algeria iraq and kuwait) that makes it a little less than 25% of our imports.

Why do our gas prices just keep rising and rising?

Iraq cant even produce enough oil right now to fill it's gas stations, non the less fill our fat greedy oil grubbing pockets that everyone thinks we're there for.

To the next moonbat who makes such claims encourage them sue there school district for robbing them of the education they so deserve.

Katrina victims and a job fair?

By Joel Guerra
Recently FEMA, the City of Austin, and the Texas Workforce Commission set up a job training/hiring, interview job fair for Katrina evacuees to be held at the ACC campus on Webberville Rd. in East Austin. Evacuees complained that they did not have transportation so the city of Austin and FEMA provided transportation. Twelve buses and vans ran from four locations in Round Rock and five locations in Austin. The vehicles were brought to their residents. Drivers knocked on their doors and did everything possible to reach potential job seekers. At the end of the day, the twelve vans and buses transported a total of one person. Not one person per bus --- one person. The cost to FEMA(us, the taxpayers) was $7800.00.

What do you make of this? I'd call it welfare abuse, and I would wonder how much of this goes on in America.

Nik:

Please. It goes on all the time. This is the problem with the welfare mentality. You can't even get on a bus and go to a job fair? But when that government money starts getting cut off then they're gonna holler about racism or blame the government because they're triflin.

Congress approves televised Supreme Court

I'm on record (as is every Supreme Court justice, for that matter) as being against this. It's my gut feeling that most here wouldn't be against it, though, for reactionary reasons. So I'll reserve my opinion for responses to these reactions, if they are forthcoming.

It will be another boring cable channel!!! Seen C-SPAN lately!

Most Americans wouldn't watch gavel to gavel coverage of oral arguments. Much less actually investigate, on their own, the written opinions that come from the cases.

Which is one of the reasons I'm against this.It will further turn the Supreme Court into a circus, and give the media outlets a reason to show clips of Justice Scalia saying something uber-conservative, out of context, or Justice Ginsburg saying something uber-liberal, out of context, and further perpetuate the WRONGFUL impression that the Court is a political institution, when it's not supposed to be one.

Public Employees Vs Private?

My general opinion is that the only well-paid public employees are politicians.

Liberals like to argue that the public is screwing itself over by not paying public employees better.

Here is a great idea why not just turn over a lot of these "public" things over to the private sector?

Oh, I forgot. That's a rational, conservative thing to do.

So it's out of style. Forget it.

Stop Snitchin'

Stop Snitchin'

I recently started watching the A&E series, "The First 48". It is a show about police detectives throughout the country trying to solve homicides within the first forty-eight hours of a murder.

So last night, I hit the play button on the tivo and on came the show which was taped in the Cities of Phoenix and Detroit. One case involved two young kids who were shot from behind in their car and the other, which was in Detroit, involved a 52 year old dope, well not dope, but marijuana seller errr! dealer. I guess for this posting's sake I would have to give the races of the victims, since everything in our world involves around two colors, black and white. The two kids were white and the 52 year old, was black.

Lets talk about the black male who was capped in Detroit. His body was found in the back of his own Cadillac Escalade in what appears to be a Detroit suburb. As protocol calls for the detectives, which in this case, was a black female detective who had been on the force for some 17 - 20 years, had to canvass the area to see if anyone seen something, anything that could help them get the individual or individuals who killed this person. They went up and down the street asking everyone who was standing there if they saw something..they asked young people, "naw, I ain't seen nuthin." They asked old people...nothing. And then it was discovered that the murder may have happened somewhere else..so they went right back up and down the street to see if anyone notice the truck there and how long had it been there...No one saw nuthin' or heard nuthin'.

Which brought me to this in regard to the black community in its handling of crimes in their neighborhood..simply put...they don't handle it. They don't cooperate with investigations or give tips (which is no surprise, some don't tip correctly in restaurants). But it seems like a lack of compassion for the victim and the victim's family. And apparently it doesn't matter how old the victim, it could be a 10 year old kid playing in the street or an elderly person. Black folk in some communities won't say jack (I started to use another word).

So the question is why? Why won't a group of supposed to be God fearing peoples stand up for what is right or not have any compassion for the deceased and its family?

Fear of retaliation.

Or.

Just don't want to cooperate with law enforcement, because of the acts of few knuckle head police officers. Mistrust of the police, caused a guilty OJ Simpson to walk out of a Los Angeles Courtroom, after allegedly killing his ex-wife and Ronald Goldman.

And not only mistrust of the police, racism. Most black folk inheritedly believe that all policemen are racists, including black law enforcement officers.

So saying all that, another question. Are you telling me that the black community would rather have gang bangers, who peddle in drugs to sell within the black community, have its street battles in the streets of said communtiy, firing aimlessly killing or injuring innocent bystanders, such as the three honor roll students in the South Side of Chicago this past two weeks, you're telling me that those gangbanger are the lessor of two evils? Strange, I answered my own question. The answer is yes...Has to be, because how do you explain the "I dunno" answers or looks upon the faces of someone who definitely knows. And then mix in the fact that the gangsters know they have the community fully intimidated and celebrate it with their own rap, videos and clothing reminding the neighborhood to

Stop Snitchin'.

Last night at the end of the program, the case of the two teen agers in Phoenix was solved. But the murder of the 52 year old black male, is not...mix in the shoddy police work and the fact that everyone on Detroit PD was practicing their best textbook police lingo and Lets not forget that the community

Didn't snitch. Get the Cookies, I guess they feel they deserve one.

When Conservatives Act Like Liberals

Mr. Grey Ghost a black consevrative democrat blogger
asked this question.

Now that its been found out that Jill Carroll was coerced into making anti-American, pro- insurgent comments while being kept hostage, will conservatives like Debbie Schlussel admit that they got it wrong on Carroll and apologize?

You would think people would be smarter than to be so quick to judge/bash a hostage for statements made under the duress of their life being threatened, especially considering the fact that the same terrorists that Carroll seemed to be all-of-a-sudden supporting had just murdered her own translator.

Black Rob Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison

Harlem emcee Black Rob was sentenced to up to seven years in prison on Thursday, he was given the maximum term for his particular grand larceny conviction. Rob (born Robert Ross) was arrested in November 2004 for stealing $6,000 in jewelry and $300 cash from a cardiologists' hotel room on New York's Upper West Side.

Authorities claim Ross was caught casing the hotel by On the Ave Hotel's security cameras. A representative for the Manhattan District Attorney's office said Ross was given the maximum sentence because he broke an agreement to turn himself in January 24th.

The Bad Boy Records artist was arrested on a fugitive warrant February 24th. He will reportedly begin serving the sentence immediately. Ross completed a six month prison stint in September 2004 for missing child support payments. In June of 2000 Ross did time for a weapons possession charge he incurred in May, when undercover NYPD officers allegedly witnessed him pass his passenger a 22-caliber handgun after pulling over to sign autographs.

Black Rob released his sophomore LP, The Black Rob Report, in October 2005. Black Rob made the first post Notorious B.I.G. splash at Bad Boy in February of 2000 with his hit single "Whoa." The song's popularity helped spike sales for his debut, Life Story, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 in March of 2000, after being in stores for about six months (September 28th, 1999).

Whats wrong with wiretaps?

I can't belive there is opposition to wiretaps on terrioist.
For nearly thirty years, international terrorists have gone unchecked and unchallenged while they were blowing up our assets worldwide..and even after the '93 WTC bombing we still let them go.

I'm glad we're finally doing something about it! As for the war on drugs, "Operation Deforestation" is going swimmingly! We've been napalming cocaine plants without giving the farmers a different crop to grow...problem unsolved.

9/11 effectively put us in a state of emergency, and finally terrorists aren't the hunters..they're finally the scared little rabbits. America needs to toughen up and realize that this war NEEDS to be fought, but it MUST stay out of the religious context..something I fear may be too late.

Weaker groups like the IRA finally threw in the towel when England joined our fight, which to me is proof that we're doing the right thing.

I just kniow that in the back of my head that this really is resonating hatred from the Crusades between the three Monotheistic religions.

I don't see peace in the near future, and all three seem to be pushing for their own books' "Apocalypse Chapters" to come to fruition. For those without a religion, I feel fucked either way.
