What Happens When "Daddy" Means Government?

Asks Duane Brayboy, a black conservative blogger, in response to statistics about the growing prison population in America and its links to single-parent upbringing. He wonders how much more should we expect from the government when the lives of many young men and women are bred for their care?:

"Not too many years ago we lived in a time where it was the norm to have a plan for the children we birthed into this world. Pregnancy that takes place outside the shelter of marriage is the creation of a child whose fate has oftentimes been left up to chance.
Now that 'chance' has led many of these kids to the judicial system in astronomical numbers, we make the pitiful attempt to shrug our contribution to this problem to the lap of 'big daddy' government. If 'big daddy' government becomes in our estimation 'too rough' with our kids, we call injustice. If 'big daddy' government does little or nothing to help these kids, we still see it as racism and intentional neglect of
OUR kids (an accusation that should be made against the immature men that helped create these kids in the first place).

When 'big daddy' government says that he needs more money by way of tax increases, we say that he is being unfair. 'More government-funded ‘daddy time’' we demand , not realizing that government 'daddy time' really means being warehoused in a prison cell. Government has NEVER been good at raising children."
