Black Leaders Condem Bush on Guest Worker Program

A coalition of black leaders is calling on Congress to pass an enforcement-only immigration bill and reject any proposal that gives amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. The coalition is called
Choose Black America, and it includes black leaders from all over the U.S. who are concerned about the effect of illegal immigration on their community.

Coalition member Jesse Lee Peterson, founder of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), took part in a news conference calling for tighter border control. "The black community has been affected by illegal immigration and illegal aliens first in the areas of education, jobs, family housing, [and] social services," he observed, "and so the people are jumping in and insisting that the government do the right thing.

" These black community leaders "want the illegal alien lobbyists to know they cannot pull the race card on this issue," the BOND spokesman asserts. "This is not a race issue, and it’s not a civil rights issue -- it’s an American issue. No amnesty and no guest worker program; it’s time that America consider its citizens first." Peterson says black members of Congress who support amnesty are not representing the views and interests of their constituents back home
